It's all such a mess. I'm not a fan of Teresa May particularly, but I do think anyone would have struggled to make a success of Brexit after the referendum, so not entirely sure what replacing May will achieve. And also who on earth would replace her if the challenge is successful?

The mess the Tories have created isn’t going to be cleaned up any other way.

Corbyn does not want us in the EU, to pretend it will all be roses and rainbows under a labour government is just as deluded as the Brexiteers

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 14:11

No one is pretending it’s going to be roses under Labour. There is no roses option available under any party, existing or yet to be created.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/12/2018 14:14

Civil unrest will be a good thing. War focuses the mind

There are times I can see the arguments of those who'd like to see some sort of test before folk get the vote

FWIW I absolutely disagree with this, but just occasionally I get where they're coming from

No one is pretending it’s going to be roses under Labour. You're right it's not and no 'going to be' either. I'll be rioting on the streets if Corbyn gets in.

bellinisurge · 12/12/2018 14:34

Sadly @user1499173618 , I think lots of people are pretending it would be roses under a Corbyn government.

StealthPolarBear · 12/12/2018 14:37

Bbc website is saying a leadership contest may take up to six weeks

bellinisurge · 12/12/2018 14:42

Its only that if TM loses.

nuttynutjob · 12/12/2018 14:56

Riots will happen when we get a No Deal Brexit (Accidentally or deliberately).

Why? Because of Just in Time system of food supply especially the perishable ones.

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 14:58

If (when) people go hungry there will be civil unrest. Better they riot first to avoid starvation.

Justanotherlurker · 12/12/2018 15:21

user1499173618

Better they riot first to avoid starvation

Who is this they you are trying to incite into rioting?

It's all good sitting in your arm chair being a pseudo anarchist, are you telling the brexiteers to riot if they don't get what they want?

Are you trying to draw comparisons to the gilet jaunes, if so I would stick to your arm chair analysis

bellinisurge · 12/12/2018 15:46

@Justanotherlurker , I think @user1499173618 is just doing it for laughs. Not funny. Childish.

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 15:48

I can assure you I am deadly serious.

Helmetbymidnight · 12/12/2018 15:49

Who’s meant to be rioting and what are they rioting for/against?

icannotremember · 12/12/2018 15:55

I'm sure we're the laughing stock of the world

We are, but I don't think any of the candidates to replace TM if she loses tonight's vote (which she is highly unlikely to do) will make things any better.

I'd support a GE if we got an Art 50 extension first. I'm not even sure if that's possible- the EU have indicated an extension would be granted if we were having a fresh referendum, but I can't recall whether they'd see a GE as reason to grant one.

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 16:06

Rioting at the prospect of economic meltdown and a massive drop in living standards? I can think of plenty of other reasons.

Helmetbymidnight · 12/12/2018 16:11

So you mean rioting at the prospect of no deal?
I can’t really see it.
I can see rioting After no deal...

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 16:13

I agree, but it would be more helpful to riot first to try to prevent the chaos rather than to riot afterwards in protest at the chaos.

icannotremember · 12/12/2018 16:13

If we have a serious economic meltdown and people are lacking food and medicine etc, I imagine most of us will be spending our time and effort trying to get food and medicine and to keep our children and vulnerable relatives and friends as safe as possible, rather than devoting our energies to rioting. We will see desperation, violence and looting, but of the 'trying to survive' kind, not the 'rioting to get our own way' kind.

I hope the preppers bought big strong locks with their emergency supplies.

Justanotherlurker · 12/12/2018 16:14

Rioting at the prospect of economic meltdown and a massive drop in living standards?

So rioting at the prospect of economic meltdown?

I'm a remainer but economic meltdown is being very liberal with even the most worst case reports that have been produced. Even compound 0.5 growth YOY is not economic meltdown by anyones standard, and coming from someone with Anarchist/Socialist tendencies such as yourself I thought you would understand the dilemma of perpetual growth and how it has caused a lot of the current problems we face now.

Would you be in favour of the brexiteers rioting if Art 50 is revoked and we stay in?

I can think of plenty of other reasons.

It's a pity you can't articulate them then...

bellinisurge · 12/12/2018 16:19

@icannotremember - yep.

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 16:21

I’m sure some Brexiteers would riot if Article 50 were revoked. In fact, I have a nasty suspicion that the violence of such riots would be greater than any other and that it is fear of Brexiteer violence that animates TM. Which is pretty crap.

EffOrf · 12/12/2018 16:24

So it's the Brexiteers that are going to riot then, but I thought they were all usually older and well off, not usually the type to riot even if their living standards dropped a bit.

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 16:25

A lot of Brexiteers are in very disadvantaged constituencies, as you well know.

EffOrf · 12/12/2018 16:31

Well, I imagine it will be on the telly if there is a riot, can't see anyone up our street going out rioting, they may not be brexiteers though, I haven't asked them.

Anyway back to Teresa May, I think she may just win the vote, we will see.

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 16:33

You don’t know how your neighbours voted?? How extraordinary. I asked absolutely everybody how they voted for months after the referendum.
