Is there anybody here who voted 'leave' who now regrets it?

Just wondering.

I'm generally not a very political person but seeing the total mess which seems to have been created by the government following through on the vote to leave the EU.

I think that the sane thing is to say 'OK we made a mistake, please can we stay in the EU.

I guess they won't because it's following through on the vote.

I know a lot of people are saying there should be a second vote, but I think these are people who voted to remain in the first place.

I was wondering if there would be any backing for a second referendum (or simply a let's forget brexit) from anyone who originally voted to leave. Maybe it's not delivering as you expected? Do you think that the pro-brexit politicians misrepresented things to you and you'd vote differently if you had a second chance?

(PS name change if you're embarrassed !)

Gets popcorn Brew.

Knittink · 11/12/2018 21:14

I suspect there are a lot of people who feel that way but wouldn't admit it. I don't mean people who think it was wrong to vote leave, but people who did not realise how complex and damaging the process would be and now think perhaps it isn't worth it. My dm admits she wouldn't have voted leave if she'd realised what a nightmare it would be.

My DH admits now he feels like an idiot for voting Leave. He never really considered what it would mean or what the EU currently offers us.

boofer1502 · 11/12/2018 21:19

I voted to leave and I do now regret it some way.. i just see the uproar it has caused now and definitely feel like leaving isn't worth that damage.. but then if we all knew the trouble it would cause before hand I think the outcome of the vote would of had a different result.

LordPickle · 11/12/2018 21:22

Excellent! Another thread about leavers. This hasn't ever been done before! Hmm

(I'm not a citizen so I have no vote)

Therighthonourable · 11/12/2018 21:26

But that's the remain campaigns fault for not letting people know how damaging it would be. It's no good in past tense. There is no benefit from debating it now.

They didn't believe they would lose and are now back peddling. They should have ran a better campaign... That's their job!!!

I have said from the beginning that Brexit will not happen. People laughed in my face... I have a feeling I should have put some money on it.

Applepudding2018 · 11/12/2018 21:29

Sorry @LordPickle I expect this has been done before. As I said in my OP I'm not really political and don't tend to follow a lot of the brexit threads as people tend to be very entrenched one way or another. It was just seeing the news over the past week or so the reality of brexit must be different to what people had hoped or expected, hence why I was asking.

Voted leave. Regret it. Only defence was it was voting for an idea. My idea was different to what has happened.

bellinisurge · 11/12/2018 21:34

I really think that a lot of people posted so much stuff on FB it wherever that it's hard to also be public about changing your mind. Better to tough it out. And as we are all so fed up if it all, saying "just get on with it" is easier than admitting you were wrong.

chicaguapa · 11/12/2018 21:35

I think the Remain side were accused of fear mongering when they pointed out the downsides of leaving.

Some people who want to leave think we should vote again as they want to make sure they get their No Deal and not May's compromise deal. Not neccessarily because they've changed their mind.

lljkk · 11/12/2018 21:40
Confused When Remain tried to say how bad Brexit would be, we got labeled 'Project Fear'.
gendercritter · 11/12/2018 21:44

No, but out of the four people I know who have admitted to voting Leave, one 'didn't give it much thought but fancied a change,' two were terrified by the idea of Turkey joining the EU (they are Greek Cypriot in origin) and one voted so as to avoid us being part of a European army. Oh and one other guy I don't know very well wanted us to 'have our sovereignty back.'

I mean, I respect the fact there are many intelligent Leave voters who put a lot of thought into their vote but we're making this extremely drastic change on the say of the people I've listed above. It's absolute suicide. Not everyone's opinion has worth.

MiddlingMum · 11/12/2018 21:56

I only know two people who voted leave. I've no idea about one, but the other bitterly regrets it.

Applepudding2018 · 11/12/2018 22:29

A few responses then and mostly saying of people who voted leave but didn't really understand what they were voting for. That was my thoughts so although people asking for second vote are being shouted down (politically I mean), I think a lot of people would vote differently knowing what they know now. What a mess Sad

DH voted leave and regrets it. I tried desperately to get him to change his vote but failed so made him carry me into the polling station (following major surgery and only being released from hospital the day before) to counteract his vote.

safariboot · 12/12/2018 00:41

Only Leaver I know is fed up of Brexit constantly being in the news, to which I say it's her own damn fault, but hasn't actually said they regret their decision. They're a lifelong Eurosceptic who voted against us joining in the first place.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 12/12/2018 00:46

The only people I know who voted leave are idiots. I think they are dead set on ‘England being English again!’ And house prices falling so they can buy a cheap mansion with no deposit on bad credit.

(Disclaimer... they are still up for it!)

TheBaltictriangle · 12/12/2018 00:58

My neighbour voted leave because she wanted all the foreigners to leave & reclaim England for the English. regardless of the fact she's got a mixed race child with a Nigerian guy & posts free Tommy Robinson posts on Facebook Confused

I think a lot of people who voted leave did so on the immigration ticket. They didn't consider the full impact of what it would mean for the country & how it would affect the economy.

Justgivemeasoddingname · 12/12/2018 00:58

What angers me is that people do regret it- they shouldn't feel like that, surely they should be mighty pissed off that they voted for something which was based on a stack of shit.
There should be no regrets but there should be a fucking revolution because of all the lies we were told.

It makes me so angry that no one is being held accountable for telling lies or making broken promises and then those who voted leave feel responsible for this crap we are in now- its not the fault of the leavers, its the fault of the politicians who lie or do not prepare for every outcome which they offer.

Or, people should have looked in to it more and I can see they would perhaps admit they regret having voted leave without really doing their research.

We had local by-elections last week. I read all the leafletscwhich came through my door. The councillor who did get the majority- if he now changes one of his policies after boasting about it on his leaflet- should his voterscregret voting him in?? No, he should be removed for not following through on his promises and policies.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 12/12/2018 02:17

I’m the opposite. I feel I was heavily lied to by remain and voted that way, but now I wish I had voted leave and I’m happy we’re leaving.

If there was another referendum (there won’t be, we live in a democratic country; you can’t just do it again because you don’t like the answer the first time), I would vote leave with no hesitation.

gendercritter · 12/12/2018 03:00

What do you think you were lied to about regarding remain?

MissionItsPossible · 12/12/2018 18:01

I know two people who voted Remain who would vote Leave if they could do it again and a 3rd who voted Remain who doesn’t regret it but would vote Leave if there’s another referendum ‘out of principle’ which I don’t understand, but feel if there was another vote, a fair amount of people would do the same.

Angrybird345 · 12/12/2018 18:43

Nope, no regrets!

Rowgtfc72 · 12/12/2018 18:49

Voted leave and certainly not on immigration.
My only regret? Thinking we lived in a democracy and my vote would count.
