How many staggeringly good looking people do you know in real life?

Just following on from my 'oh my god I've just discovered Richard Armitage' thread (and do watch North and South if you have not already done so!). Musing on how gorgeous he is got me thinking.

How many really good looking people do you know in real life? I'm not talking 'eye of the beholder' type beauty, but real, classical, can't argue with it beauty (male or female)? There's a girl works in our office who I think is just beautiful - she always looks so glamorous without being showy or too made up, long blond hair with a slight curl. Very elegant. She makes everyone else look like saggy puddings. And she's probably very nice too (doesn't work in my section, it's a big place).

It made me think how very few people I know or even see like this on a daily basis - most people are just very average looking (myself included!). I can't remember the last time I saw a really handsome man. I do remember a chap I saw across a bar when I was about 22, with the most amazing cheekbones. He was just beautiful. Not in a fancying kind of way, just in a 'I could look at you for hours' kind of way. But I genuinely can't think of any since. Plenty of men I have found sexy but that's different, the two don't always overlap.

I'm probably not explaining myself very well. Maybe I just move in the wrong circles! Maybe they are all celebrities these days.

I met a woman in her 70s at a friends Indian wedding & she was beautiful. Amazing cheekbones like Kate M & huge eyes.

There are a lot of people who are groomed eg lots of celebs who have the glossy hair, gym honed body etc but facially they aren’t that special.

LucheroTena · 11/12/2018 20:20

I dated a perfect looking man once. For about a year. I could have stared at him all day. He had a nice twinkle too. I was the funny one...

bumblebee39 · 11/12/2018 20:22

Almost everyone I know 🙈
Not including me or my ex partners
But my kids might be-- when they grow up but I would think that I'm their mum--

NeverTalksToStrangers · 11/12/2018 20:23

My niece is utterly gorgeous. Almost looks mixed race, but isn't (half Irish, half English). Was a beautiful child, beautiful teenager. You could absolutely guarantee if someone spoke about her or met her for the first time, they would mention it. Now, at 21, she doesn't look just as good but that's because she wears too much makeup.

JamieFraser · 11/12/2018 20:23

I knew one woman years ago who was stunning.... Grecian features, big name of hair and a cracking figure. Guys were round her like flies round shite. She was a lovely lassie but my god she was a mess mentally. Zero confidence and all sorts of issues.

Bluesnow · 11/12/2018 20:23

It's got me thinking nowHmm

Bluesnow · 11/12/2018 20:25

I've just googled Richard Armitage I wouldn't say he beautiful at all Confused

MrsCar · 11/12/2018 20:27

A friend of mine.

We were Christmas shopping last week and while we were walking down the street, people were actually turning around to look at her, and I even saw someone point.

I'm not sure if she's a natural beauty, but she's very attractive, or what's considered 'sexy' I guess - blonde, extensions, curves, huge breasts, false eyelashes, heavy makeup etc

Ironfloor269 · 11/12/2018 20:28

Yes. A girl I grew up with. She had the clearest, most glowing skin, perfect features, perfect figure and gorgeous, shiny hair. And when she smiled, it was like turning on a light in a dark room. After having three kids and almost forty, she still looks the same. Hasn't aged one bit.

Oh and also John Barrowman.

Polkapjs · 11/12/2018 20:30

My friend is uncomfortably beautiful. Just stunning and lovely to boot. Her husband is super handsome too. She must know she’s gorgeous but is very very lovely - I just feel like such a minger in her presence

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 11/12/2018 20:33

I know bluesnow - I think it's just particular characters he's played that have got pulses racing (although if I met him in real life I suspect I would turn into a gibbering wreck). He's sexy but not what I would call totally classically beautiful. Probably a bad example to start the thread off with, but it was my phwoooaring of him in North and South that got me thinking about beautiful people in general. Funnily enough I don't actually tend to find the classically beautiful people sexy, for me it's the quirks that add the sexiness. But some people do make you admire them physically in a different way - the same way as you would admire stunning scenery or a flower that was naturally beautiful.

Interesting how many people have said that people they knew who they initially thought were beautiful became less so on discovery that they were actually a twat Grin

Yep one of my nct friends. She is really beautiful. I think she knows. But she's a lovely person too.

But I don't think she realises how easy it is for her to navigate through life, I really do think that beautiful people have an easier time.

WallisFrizz · 11/12/2018 20:40

I know two extremely attractive, head turning women. Both naturally beautiful when casual then flippin stunning when made up. Also both lovely girl’s girls but capable and willing to wrap every man they meet around their little finger.

I am really not the sort of mum that thinks her offspring are gorgeous, but my 20 year old son has turned into a ridiculously good looking man.

I am NOT allowed to give him any compliments on his looks - he gets very annoyed. If I go anywhere with him, I clock young women gawping at him and nudging each other and pointing. He is completely oblivious.

IcedPurple · 11/12/2018 20:55

Interesting question.

People who are attractive in the sense that you wouldn't look twice at them on the street but who are still quite pleasant looking? Tons.

People who are jaw-droppingly, turn your head around to stare beautiful? Very, very few. And I remember such people for years afterwards. But there just aren't that many of them.

Except in Croatia/former Yugoslavia. I went there with a friend some years ago and we spent a very pleasant afternoon just sitting on a park bench staring at all the men. Seriously, every other man looked like Goran Visjnic from ER - tall, with soulful dark eyes and cut-glass cheekbones. And within a short time, you'd come to take it or granted -men who you'd be drooling over anywhere else would barely get a 'meh'.

Truly spectacular.

This is true.

Other than that, not much in the way of jaw droppers.

Bluesnow · 11/12/2018 20:59

Just googled Goran Visjnic and don't see the attraction either. Maybe I'm missing something Hmm

PawneeParksDept · 11/12/2018 21:00

Staggering

Mmmm

I've known 3 ridiculously attractive men but one went to seed as he aged

One strikingly beautiful woman, who couldn't seem to get dates

Oh and my cousin who was physically assaulted twice over jealousy of her looks as a teenager

My sister was always remarked on as a teenager but it was hard on her, older men preyed on her and girls were jealous

VictoryOrValhalla · 11/12/2018 21:00

I sat behind one this evening at the school nativity play. I’ve known her since I was a teenager, (about 15 years) she has been stunning all her life. Her brother is gorgeous too. He still looks early 20’s and he is 40. Just two naturally stunning people. Excellent genes. Pure luck.

Soontobe60 · 11/12/2018 21:01

There's are 2 parents in my school, sisters, who are stunning! When I meet with them I can't stop looking at their faces. Perfect eyes, lips, nose, skin, eyebrows. I don't think they are actually aware of how striking they are.
Also, my daughters are stunning. Really! I'm not. Used to be ok in a casual, hippy kind of way, but not any more.

IcedPurple · 11/12/2018 21:02

I live in Denmark. Theyre all pretty damn beautiful.

Yes, Danes are a remarkably good-looking people (and smug with it, but that's another story).

Swedes have the reputation for beauty, but imo Danes are the best-looking Scandinavians. Especially the men.

VictoryOrValhalla · 11/12/2018 21:02

And she’s a truly lovely person too. Not at all big headed or arrogant.

Runningishard · 11/12/2018 21:04

I know one girl who looks like Rosie Huntington Whitely, not a poor man’s version either. And beautiful without make up

IcedPurple · 11/12/2018 21:04

Were they recent pics? He hasn't aged well (sadly that seems the norm for most men in former Yugoslavia) but he was gorgeous back in his ER days. Much more so than Clooney imo, who I've always found smarmy and overrated.

But, each to her own!
