How many staggeringly good looking people do you know in real life?

Just following on from my 'oh my god I've just discovered Richard Armitage' thread (and do watch North and South if you have not already done so!). Musing on how gorgeous he is got me thinking.

How many really good looking people do you know in real life? I'm not talking 'eye of the beholder' type beauty, but real, classical, can't argue with it beauty (male or female)? There's a girl works in our office who I think is just beautiful - she always looks so glamorous without being showy or too made up, long blond hair with a slight curl. Very elegant. She makes everyone else look like saggy puddings. And she's probably very nice too (doesn't work in my section, it's a big place).

It made me think how very few people I know or even see like this on a daily basis - most people are just very average looking (myself included!). I can't remember the last time I saw a really handsome man. I do remember a chap I saw across a bar when I was about 22, with the most amazing cheekbones. He was just beautiful. Not in a fancying kind of way, just in a 'I could look at you for hours' kind of way. But I genuinely can't think of any since. Plenty of men I have found sexy but that's different, the two don't always overlap.

I'm probably not explaining myself very well. Maybe I just move in the wrong circles! Maybe they are all celebrities these days.

Only 3. I knew a lot more when I was younger. Old people are ugly.

RiddleyW · 15/12/2018 07:04

I don’t think old people are ugly but there is a glow around very young people.

A colleague and I were remarking that the grads each year seem to be getting more and more beautiful. I think I’m actually just getting to an age where a normal group of 22 year olds look ethereally lovely to me.

TheChristmasYouGetYouDeserve · 15/12/2018 07:26

Only one. I met him at work and had a casual on-off fling with over a couple of years. Naturally I fell in love with him (still ache to think about him). He had melting brown eyes, an incredibly deep voice, a cropped beard like Maximus from Gladiator, muscled arms and chest and a completely flat stomach. He also radiated confidence and charisma, and was something else in the bedroom department.

Oh well...

marthastew · 15/12/2018 07:46

I work with someone very beautiful and it's quite amazing going out and about with her. People are so much nicer to her than they are to me (ugly and saggy).

She definitely finds it difficult getting attention wherever she goes and is often quite embarrassed by it all.

She is also very bright and we work in a demanding field but people do assume that she doesn't know what she is talking about.

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 15/12/2018 14:12

There’s one in my mirror 😂

IcedPurple · 15/12/2018 14:19

And I think it's really unfair. There are ugly people in Denmark too. I think the difference is theyre better dressed. Jeans and a shirt or t shirt will always look better than tracksuit bottoms and a hoody.

What part of Britain do you spend time in? I can't remember the last time I saw someone in a tracksuit other than at a sports event.

And while the Danes are definitely - generally speaking of course - a very good -looking people, I'd hardly call them sharp dressers.

beanaseireann · 15/12/2018 16:24

My friend.
Amazingly beautiful.
Sadly she died too young.

redexpat · 15/12/2018 16:57

Icedpurple Gloucester at Easter.

katekat383 · 15/12/2018 17:09

I do not see people in “tracksuit bottoms and a hoody” either. You must inhabit a very different world. May I just say that sloppy stereotyping of an entire nation is extremely wrong and very annoying.

katekat383 · 15/12/2018 17:11

Oh but if you see people like that in one part of the UK, that must mean everyone in the UK dresses like that.
🙄

IcedPurple · 15/12/2018 17:14

Icedpurple Gloucester at Easter.

I'll admit I've never been in Gloucester at any time of the year, but I do find it hard to believe that your average person was walking the streets in 'tracksuits and hoodies'.

And if we're going to generalise, while I will say the Danes on average are better looking than the Brits, they're a rather dull and clannish lot. I'd rather spend time with Brits any day of the week, even if they're wearing tracksuits and hoodies - which they probably won't be.

NotScrewingUpNow · 15/12/2018 17:20

Not a fan of European features so don't agree that the Scandinavians are beautiful. Women of the Caribbean and south America's however O.O gorgeous

IcedPurple · 15/12/2018 17:22

What are 'European features'?

BTW many if not most South Americans are of at least partial European descent.

NotScrewingUpNow · 15/12/2018 17:27

I should have been clearer. The ones with a mix of African and European features. Mostly African which you can find in the Caribbean.

IcedPurple · 15/12/2018 17:31

So basically when you say you are "Not a fan of European features" you mean you don't find white people attractive?

NotScrewingUpNow · 15/12/2018 17:42

A lot of, well most of the world don't find African features attractive. What's the problem?

IcedPurple · 15/12/2018 17:44

A lot of, well most of the world don't find African features attractive. What's the problem?

No problem really.

However, I suspect that if someone were to come on here and say they don't find black people attractive, many many people would consider this to be a problem.

NotScrewingUpNow · 15/12/2018 17:50

So why bother commenting then?

So why bother commenting then?

What's that supposed to mean?

All I wanted was to clarify that when you said you didn't like 'European features' you meant you don't think white people are attractive.

I did and you did.

IcedPurple · 15/12/2018 17:54

Its ok not to find a certain race physically attractive though there are some races i do not personally find attractive but its just down to personal taste not racism.

I agree - we like what we like. I also tend to gravitate towards certain physical types - though it has more to do with bone structure and build rather than racial features - so I don't think there's anything neccessarily wrong about say you prefer a certain type. However, I definitely think that if a person had come here and said they're 'not a fan of African features' it would generate a very negative respose.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 15/12/2018 18:09

Not least because ‘African features’ is meaningless. Africa is a massive continent with huge variations in appearance between people in different ethnic groups, tribes and nationalities.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 15/12/2018 18:09

People from not in.

NotScrewingUpNow · 15/12/2018 18:13

African features

Ok well sub saharan features. Is that a bit better?

You know what I mean. Typical features such as kinky hair, dark skin, wide nose, dark eyes.
