How many staggeringly good looking people do you know in real life?

Just following on from my 'oh my god I've just discovered Richard Armitage' thread (and do watch North and South if you have not already done so!). Musing on how gorgeous he is got me thinking.

How many really good looking people do you know in real life? I'm not talking 'eye of the beholder' type beauty, but real, classical, can't argue with it beauty (male or female)? There's a girl works in our office who I think is just beautiful - she always looks so glamorous without being showy or too made up, long blond hair with a slight curl. Very elegant. She makes everyone else look like saggy puddings. And she's probably very nice too (doesn't work in my section, it's a big place).

It made me think how very few people I know or even see like this on a daily basis - most people are just very average looking (myself included!). I can't remember the last time I saw a really handsome man. I do remember a chap I saw across a bar when I was about 22, with the most amazing cheekbones. He was just beautiful. Not in a fancying kind of way, just in a 'I could look at you for hours' kind of way. But I genuinely can't think of any since. Plenty of men I have found sexy but that's different, the two don't always overlap.

I'm probably not explaining myself very well. Maybe I just move in the wrong circles! Maybe they are all celebrities these days.

Someone i work with although in a different team is probably the best looking woman u have ever met in real life. Even i as a straight woman can appreciate she is very attractive. Also a lovely lady!

dun1urkin · 12/12/2018 20:01

@umpteennamechanges
No, which makes me think there is more than one out there. Which is a lovely thought.

TheLastNigel · 12/12/2018 20:17

One I think. But he is also achingly dull.

MsTSwift · 12/12/2018 20:36

Actually yes thought of another. A Russian trainee at my old firm. Apparently she couldn’t share an office with a male partner as too distracting Hmm. She applied to take dh place in his flatshare when he moved in with me but his normal nice female flat mate vetoed her as couldn’t face idea of her day in day out with stunning Russian supermodel type couldn’t blame her really Grin

I'm reading this and thinking.... maybe she was a bitch?

Because whenever I hear someone say that nobody will work/live with them because they're so breathtakingly, jealousy-inducingly gorgeous, 9 times out of 10 it's actually because they're just not a very nice person.

MsTSwift · 12/12/2018 20:43

Nah I don’t think she was a bitch she was new in the job and in the city so no one really knew what she was like seemed nice enough. The partners were older men and powerful so she wouldn’t have dared be mean to them anyway even she was that way inclined. She was stunning though.

Youngandfree · 12/12/2018 20:45

Yes I have two cousins who are both literally perfect in every way...drop dead gorgeous and tall but not too tall😩😩 their waists are at my boobs 🙈😩

IcedPurple · 12/12/2018 20:46

Maybe.

But I genuinely think very very very few people are so drop-dead gorgeous that men refuse to share offices with them and women refuse to share flats with them.

Perhaps they exist, but mostly in their own heads.

I teach mostly 20 year old Italians and I think a lot of them are really stunning.

NooNooHead · 12/12/2018 20:53

I used to think someone in my form at school was very pretty (although not really beautiful) and I was a bit envious of her sometimes.

I wonder if anyone will post a pic of someone (anonymous) who they think is very beautiful? I’m curious to know what constitutes real beauty...

msnowtybach · 12/12/2018 20:59

For me it's the whole package; being bright, witty, funny and elegant adds a magic something to someone. I've known people to initially look beautiful but to lose that quality through their mean or boring or thick personality.

It is in the eye of the beholder and it is a special combination of qualities:

Fontofnoknowledge · 12/12/2018 21:02

I know (or should say Knew) three.
One is a young man who is a friend of my eldest daughter. He's 24 and do not want to come across as a pervy letcher.. but my god he's gorgeous.

Another was a woman I used to work with who sadly died by suicide. She had a sort of ephemeral quality . How you would imagine a fairy princess.

The third is my own DH who is a cross between Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford - this is obviously a very lovely view to wake up to. HOWEVER .. looks really aren't everything. Living with someone who has breezed through live smiling and chatting his way out of difficult situations has been interesting. It can make him arrogant , and lazy because he doesn't have to try hard. Since young he has managed to 'flirt' with both sexes to get his way- which means I have to bring him down to earth sometimes .... and now.. at 56 the life of a mere mortal approaches. ..

While that is true, this discussion is about exceptional physical beauty - the type that makes you turn your head in the street and stare.

The definite impression seems to be that such beauty is very rare, in both men and women.

Thankssomuch · 12/12/2018 21:05

Elsiecat - you’re right, my eldest DS is a professional model (with Elite) and he’s actually quite odd looking (although lovely,) but very thin and very tall with a really striking bone structure thing going on. He photographs brilliantly. In real life he looks pretty different to how he does in photos.

PippilottaLongstocking · 12/12/2018 21:27

Loads! I know several professional models though, although they weren’t models when I first knew them

Rarfy · 12/12/2018 21:34

Ok for reference i would say chloe lewis of towie fame is very beautiful.

BlancheM · 12/12/2018 22:18

Rarfy I agree, she is absolutely beautiful.

Thankssomuch · 12/12/2018 22:22

But this is why it’s still in the eye of the beholder because having googled Chloe Lewis , I can’t agree with previous posters - without meaning to be rude, am sure shes lovely.

McWilde · 12/12/2018 22:35

I worked with one woman who would put a Victoria secret model to shame. She was extraordinarily beautiful, coupled with being a lovely person.
Sometimes she would be talking to me for 5 minutes and I wouldn't have heard a word she said, as I would be marvelling over her face.
A lot of men in the office either avoided her, or would turn into bumbling fools Grin

BlancheM · 12/12/2018 22:36

She has an undeniably beautiful face. Perfectly symmetrical, naturally full lips ect
On another note, I know a couple of stunning women. I spend half my time on the continent and any given day you could be walking down the street and pass a couple of women who look like they could be supermodels. Only ever met or known one ridiculously good looking man though. I think they must be rarer!

RudolfIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/12/2018 22:43

I recently worked with a retired male model - he was reasonably well-known in his day; chances are, if you were a teenager in the 90s, you had a poster of him on your wall. I certainly did. Wink

Anyway. He's still astonishingly, can't-take-your-eyes-off-him beautiful. Nice chap, too.

Ruskyrobins24 · 12/12/2018 22:56

I saw Naomi Campbell at an event once (from a distance obvs; I was one of the plebs) and she was amazingly, otherworldly beautiful. Like an amazon or something. I’d never been particularly bothered about her before, but in the flesh she was incredible. I could t stop staring.

Nutellalovesme · 12/12/2018 23:08

@Thankssomuch Agreed. Beauty is definitely in the eyes of the beholder

DontCallMeCharlotte · 12/12/2018 23:27

Three. Two from sixth form - one was short and curvy with glorious blonde hair and looked like Madonna in the Material Girl video. The other was tall with dark hair and the most beautiful skin (Spanish). Yet totally unphotogenic - she had a lazy eye which you wouldn't spot in the flesh but shows in every photo. The third looks like I imagine the virgin Mary would look. She's Greek and has the most serene way about her but age and an extreme fitness regime have not been kind - a couple of Sunday roasts and she'd be divine again. The raw material is still very much there.

All beautiful on the inside as well.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 12/12/2018 23:29

Oh and I used to drink in the same pub as Alexa Cheung - she's exquisite in the flesh
