A year on, I am still mourning the end of The Detectorists.

I don't watch a lot of TV, but over the years I have loved and bingewatched

Gavin and Stacey
Stella
Car Share
The Detectorists
Phoenix Nights

All gentle, subtle tales of people going about their everyday lives, with the subtleties of longstanding friendships I suppose. Also

The Inbetweeners, Fresh Meat and Friday Night Dinner

Anything else I can obsess over this Christmas ?

Black Books
Coupling

I second This Country. It is an absolute work of genius.

The Job Lot

Both a bit old now but
Love Soup
The Smoking Room

Him and Her

BringMeTea · 09/12/2018 22:57

This Country. Just brilliant.

Clawdy · 09/12/2018 22:59

Anyone know where we can watch the third series of the Detectorists? I think it's available online, but would like to watch it on tv. Got the first two series on Netflix, but the third isn't there.

MrsBobtonTrent · 09/12/2018 23:00

Loved detectorists. Can’t stand This Country. Someone suggested Bad Move, but haven’t tried it yet (unhelpful!). Watching for suggestions.

MissMarplesKnitting · 09/12/2018 23:02

Derry Girls
Quacks
Rev. (Get a box set)

senua · 09/12/2018 23:05

Something to love as much as Detectorists? That's a tall order!
Have you seen Episodes? Link

BringMeTea · 09/12/2018 23:11

Oh yeah, Rev is good.

VittysCardigan · 09/12/2018 23:11

Young offenders
People just do nothing
Friday night dinner
Jam and jeruselam
Catastrophe

BikeRunSki · 09/12/2018 23:17

Thanks all.
I don’t get This Country or Episodes.
I quite like Derry Girls M, and Coupling back in the day, but they are not in the same league as The Detectorists or even Gavin and Stacey.
I was bored by Rev.

Maybe senua is right, maybe nothing else will ever be as good as The Detectorists.

Bad Move isn't in the same league as Detectorists IMO, but its watchable enough.
I think I have similar taste to you, OP and definitely second Him & Her suggested upthread!
Also loved Catastrophe, Bored to Death, Forever, Marvellous Mrs Maisel, and Plebs.

Gilliganskitchenisland · 09/12/2018 23:20

To my shame, I've also gotten drawn in by Riverdale even though I think it's aimed at teens and the acting is atrocious. Bit of a guilty pleasure!

senua · 09/12/2018 23:29

I was going to suggest Mum but it's not on i-player.

senua · 09/12/2018 23:32

oops. Forgot my link!

movehimintothesun · 09/12/2018 23:55

Can I suggest 'Mortimer and Whitehouse:Gone Fishing'.

It's not quite the same in that it's documentary rather than fiction/drama, but I loved the Detectorists, and the others on your original post, and this has a similar gentle feel, as well as being very very funny!

heatherblue · 09/12/2018 23:58

Stath Lets Flats
Fleabag

Oswin · 10/12/2018 00:00

Young offenders is very good.

TheDetectorist · 10/12/2018 00:01

Nothing will be as good as the Detectorists. Oh how I miss it. The music, the quiet nothing much happening of the plot & characters. I wish there were more episodes but perhaps it was best to stop it at 3 series. Hmm, I not helping with recommendations am I?! It was bloody good though

EnidButton · 10/12/2018 04:40

Oh lovely gentle clever Detectorists. . I think it's uniquely gorgeous I'm afraid but there must be something with a similar vibe. I just don't know what.

BlueTimesTwo · 10/12/2018 06:18

Have you watched Trollied?

BroomstickOfLove · 10/12/2018 06:25

I enjoyed Derry Girls a lot, but I don't think there's anything out there as good as The Detectorists.

How about radio? John Finnemore's stuff has some of the same kindness of humour that the is The Detectorists, so if for Cabin Pressure if you haven't by already heard it.
