Do you like the film Love Actually?

I always cry at the beginning, when Hugh Grant is talking about love around us and the arrivals terminal at Heathrow. How the messages from people at the Twin Towers were all messages of love and not hate 😭

But I feel somewhat stabby at Miss Knightly saying "I look quite pretty" - Well of course you do, you're a bloody actress/model.

I adore Alan Rickman, even though he was a fool.

I love Colin Firth, and Billy Mack the rockstar makes me chuckle.

Emma Thompson (obviously).

Roman Atkinson, he helped the boy get through security. I didn't notice that before.

All my in laws say it's rubbish Grin they are not in my good books

I don't think it's aged well. The storyline of the guy going to America is beyond awful, Colin falling in love with a random woman with whom he can't talk to; urgh. Don't like the story with the woman whose brother calls all the time.
Could go on. Good idea, bad execution.

UserMe18 · 02/12/2018 21:10

It's one of those films that turns me into an old rose tinted whinge "they don't make films like this anymore!" It felt like in the 90s/00s there was a classic British rom com always around the corner, can't remember the last film released that really made me laugh.

JennyHolzersGhost · 02/12/2018 21:11

No it’s a pile of shite. Four Weddings is far better if you want a schmaltzy romance.

gonzo77 · 02/12/2018 21:11

I love it, even though it is complete nonsense. Always have a little sob watching it tbh

Bernina · 02/12/2018 21:12

It's too sad when she opens the present and it's the CD and not the necklace

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 02/12/2018 21:13

I love it

SundayIsCalling · 02/12/2018 21:14

Oh, God, The Kris Marshall US sex fantasy plot — how could I forget? And he imports another interchangeable American girl for his friend.

I love when he says to the American girls "Yes, British. From Basildon Grin"

Hate it, apart from the Alan Rickman bits.

And I do quite enjoy Hugh Grant dancing, but that's it.

KatherinaMinola · 02/12/2018 21:15

No, it's a crime against cinema.

FrogFairy · 02/12/2018 21:15

I find it easy, cheesy viewing. I also like The Holiday despite not being a fan of Jude Law.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 02/12/2018 21:16

Total rubbish. That's however many minutes of my life I won't get back. Just what was the point of any of it ?

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 02/12/2018 21:16

Emma straightening the bedding Sad

SantaClauseMightWork · 02/12/2018 21:17

I think it is a very overrated film. And I am slightly tired of the repeat broadcast every Christmas. Nearly religiously.

Annandale · 02/12/2018 21:21

Loathsome film that makes very little sense. Smug, delusional nonsense. Makes the 21st century in all its awfulness make sense, as that's where we were just beforehand.

Thirtyrock39 · 02/12/2018 21:22

I loved it at the time saw it three times at the cinema when it came out.
Favourite bit is Hugh grant pretending to be a carol singer, Joanna page and Martin freeman's storyline, the cafe bit with all the comedy translations and still love Andrew Lincoln With the cards even though it's clearly major stalker behaviour

rubisco · 02/12/2018 21:24

This essay is perfect: jezebel.com/i-rewatched-love-actually-and-am-here-to-ruin-it-for-al-1485136388

It's a terrible film!

Cleanermaidcook · 02/12/2018 21:26

Love it.
Emma Thompson opening the gift makes me wail every time.
Yes it a cheesy crapfest but it's still ace!

Maelstrop · 02/12/2018 21:33

Love it! Apart from Andrew Lincoln with the cards.what a shit friend.

Stephisaur · 02/12/2018 21:35

I love it.

I know it’s shit, but I love it all the same. DH hates it though so I don’t get to watch it often.

Baking101 · 02/12/2018 21:36

Love it!

dogzdinner · 02/12/2018 21:36

I had a similar experience to Emma Thompson and I hate that Alan Rickman Just got let off. So in protest I won't watch it

Plus it has some really dreadful dialogue.

7Days · 02/12/2018 21:37

Emma Thompson holding it all together for the kids.
Worth it for that bit.

HalloweeninCornwall · 02/12/2018 21:37

I can’t watch it. Feel so embarrassed for them. Maine has it.
Absolutely cringe at that Martin Freeman shot where he is dry humping his soon-to-be-girlfriend that is romance? Confused
I get that that the juxtapositioning of their awkwardness with each other contrasts with the explicitness of what they’re filming but urgh. It’s just awful.
The cleaner/PM claptrap (sexist? Patronising?) and the scene where she’s coming out of the house, with North London intellectual’s idea of what a working class family looks like Hmm .. normally I find swearing hilarious but her reaction when she sees the PM at her door is just so awkward

I have never Understood why people like it.

There. That felt good.

lovetherisingsun · 02/12/2018 21:38

I like it, but I think life is too much like the Alan and Emma scenario to truly enjoy the Disney aspect of it all.

Mrskeats · 02/12/2018 21:38

Awful film.
Especially the bits with Martine Whatshername. As if the prime minister just pops around Hmm
