Because of our lounge we have a tall but slim tree. Just seen a thread with SO many beautifully decorated bushy full trees.

Ours looks crap in comparison. It's not going up til the 14th but this was it 2 years ago..

Does it look shit to you?

You could get a taller tree it looks tiny in comparison to your unit.

cjt110 · 02/12/2018 16:48

The tree is 6ft... I hate our stupid high ceilings

mimibunz · 02/12/2018 16:51

It doesn’t look shit! Maybe a tad anemic due to the size of the room? Could you get a second tree, one with bigger hips?

TroyKing · 02/12/2018 16:54

Raise it up by placing it on a box that you've draped some white washing that makes it look like snow?

TroyKing · 02/12/2018 16:54

Wadding not washing

loobylou10 · 02/12/2018 16:57

Sorry but yes it looks a bit sad! It's very sparse 🌲

donquixotedelamancha · 02/12/2018 16:58

we have a tall but slim tree

You are right that girth is important. Mine is a similar length to yours but much wider and so always seems to impress.

Have you tried trimming some of the stray foliage round the bottom? I find a quick it looks larger that way.

Just seen a thread with SO many beautifully decorated bushy full trees.

I think you should stop looking at other people's online and just be happy with what you have. Size isn't everything.

mumonashoestring · 02/12/2018 16:59

Trouble with getting a bigger tree is it'll take up more floor space as well as having more height. Yours looks lovely though, maybe try some tinsel or holly along the tops of the picture frames?

To make you feel better I'll post some pics of our tree when it goes up next weekend Grin It's 12 years old and a bit tatty, we have a small house so it gets stuffed into a corner, and DS insists on shovelling as much glittery stuff onto it as possible so it ends up looking like a desperate refugee from the North Pole [santa]

GreenTulips · 02/12/2018 17:00

You need to decorate the inside of the tree so the baubles hand/swing lower.

This will add depth to the tree

I love my skinny tree!

GreenTulips · 02/12/2018 17:01

Is that tinsel on the tree? burn it

Toomanybaubles · 02/12/2018 17:08

OP I bought a puny balsam hill alpine tree for my snug, skinny and small! I have got ten foot ceilings and think it looks slightly sad ... but I am going to stick with it! It is on a box.

God knows how I got it so wrong but never mind it will do.

Perhaps my photo might make you feel better 😂.

Put it up on a box.

cjt110 · 02/12/2018 17:11

Green Yes... I know. I hate tinsel. DH loves it. Plus that foil ceiling shit.. that go from corner to corner... No idea what they're called.

I've said to him I want beading and baubles on the tree this year but I'm afraid it'll look even more sparse!

We can't afford get another tree. It will be in a different part of the room this year which is a thoroughfare... anything wider would risk being demolished by 4 year old DS.

Also i would take that picture down fron behind the tv.

cjt110 · 02/12/2018 17:12

Toomany Your tree looks beautiful. Yes... am thinking a box is perhaps the way forward.

How do you fill the naked, between branch gaps?

OP posts:
Zofloramummy · 02/12/2018 17:13

Mine died last year due to cats thinking it was a bed. I bought a new one for £13 on eBay. Brand new and boxed (Sainsbury’s). It’s only 6ft and slim. But it’s a tree and it was cheap!

Zofloramummy · 02/12/2018 17:14

I fill between the branches with ceiling garlands. Slightly tacky but it does the job!

cjt110 · 02/12/2018 17:15

zoflora what do you mean?

OP posts:
youngestisapsycho · 02/12/2018 17:16

To be honest, yes it does look a bit shit. You could have a taller and wider one, would look so much nicer. I also agree about the pic behind the TV!

NotTired · 02/12/2018 17:16

I think it would look much better if you added more baubles.

HollySwift · 02/12/2018 17:18

It’s not the size, it’s the fact that the branches aren’t bushy that is the problem. Have you splayed them properly?

Zofloramummy · 02/12/2018 17:18

In the gaps between the branches where you can see the trunk I put foil ceiling garlands around. I use it like I would tinsel and then put the baubles on the ends of the branches like normal. The garlands are wider than normal tinsel so cover up the gaps. There’s usually room for some tinsel as well. My dd did it when she was 5 and in charge of decorating and it looked so good I’ve done it every year since!

DonaldDucksTowel · 02/12/2018 17:19

You need to pull the branches slightly up and some slightly down, not just outwards, to fill in the gaps

Does that picture not being central to your tv not drive you mad? 🙈

DonaldDucksTowel · 02/12/2018 17:19

And yes more baubles!

Zofloramummy · 02/12/2018 17:19

You what I mean by ceiling garlands? Those foil things we used to have in every ceiling in long chains. They sell them in B&M, Wilkins etc
