I have tree envy :-(

Because of our lounge we have a tall but slim tree. Just seen a thread with SO many beautifully decorated bushy full trees.

Ours looks crap in comparison. It's not going up til the 14th but this was it 2 years ago..

Does it look shit to you?

It looks very sparse. Is it white? Is that why? The branches look spaced too far apart. Could you maybe get a bushy garland type thing to make it look a bit greener and fuller?

I think the fact that it’s just a tree on its own in a fairly bare room makes it look sad. Could you get some greenery, candles or lights up to make it feel a bit more festive?

Zofloramummy · 02/12/2018 17:20

Wilko

MynameisJune · 02/12/2018 17:20

I think it needs more branches, it looks too spaced out and sparse. Even a slim tree with lots of branches can look pretty.

CoperCabana · 02/12/2018 17:23

Zoflora - I think we need a pic!

Toomanybaubles · 02/12/2018 17:24

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a skinny tree OP, my other one is full size and I have to move furniture whereas there is none of that with this (which is where I started). You just need to embrace it.

I thought I would like the sparsely built tree - something different but I am not sure I do.

You could use ribbon instead of tinsel/beads.

cjt110 · 02/12/2018 17:24

Tree won't be there this year.

Would green tinsel work to bush it out? The branches have fake snow on..

I agree with the posters saying get some greenery in there. The tree is so pale it blends into the background. If you go round some local lanes with secateurs and get some ivy and holly to drape on your pics the tree will look all silvery and narnia-ish and not so lonely.

cjt110 · 02/12/2018 17:27

Cheers all.

I'm fighting a losing battle. DH just said "who cares it's a tree"

I will post a pic as soon as the tree is up. I’ve got the lurgy (aching joints, cough) at the moment so the tree has been delayed as I can’t face the attic and lugging boxes at the moment!

arowhena · 02/12/2018 17:38

cjt have my first LTB, and get well soon Zofloramummy. We get our trees from a farm shop and I always pick one of the deformed ones going for a fiver because I feel sorry for them.

3luckystars · 02/12/2018 17:39

I definitely want to see it too, I cant even picture it.

@cjt110 but you DO care. Small trees can look great. You can turn this around.

arowhena · 02/12/2018 17:49

Think Zoflora means these

We've got huge ceilings too. Sadly DP isn't keen on a 9 ft tree to make the most of them; so we're going for 6-7 ft but it does need to be wide or it looks too pencil-y and feeble.

If DS is 4; he must be able to avoid the tree by now, or be really close? Could you pad it out for this year and go for a new wider tree next year?

Different decorations might make it seem bigger: but could also highlight how small it is, IYSWIM.

CoperCabana · 02/12/2018 17:55

We need to see them in situ but only once Zoflora is feeling better. GWS!

DaisyDreaming · 02/12/2018 17:57

I remember our beautiful Christmas tree as a child, it was like a real one, coveted in beautiful decorations and lights and a true beauty to see.
Found a photo the other day and burst out laughing at how awful it was, a pole with a few spindaly branches! Your family having fun around the tree is all that matters

sollyfromsurrey · 02/12/2018 18:05

There seems to be plenty of room for a wider tree there. No idea why you didn't think you had room. If you are stuck with this tree, get a big barrel stick a block of wood in it and stand the tree in it to make it look like the tree is sitting in the barrel. It will give it more presence

beeefcake · 02/12/2018 18:09

Have you spaced out the branches as much as you possibly can?

The Range have some lovely garlands which will fill it out. You need to arrange them inside of the branches as opposed to just around the edge.

GreenTulips · 02/12/2018 18:11

idea what they're called

foil ceiling shit

Yep that's right

Get some extr baulbs - look in the £1 shops - get some proper hanging hook thingywatsits and they the balls swing

PineapplePen07 · 02/12/2018 18:18

Yes I think you need more baubles too.

I got a brand new set from Argos for £9.99 this year, really impressed they covered our entire tree and have given it a new lease of life.

ChocolateTearDrops · 02/12/2018 18:29

@donquixotedelamancha Grin you have a way with words! Wink

Aria2015 · 02/12/2018 18:38

I feel your pain (envy) we have a skinny tree too to save space. I used to have a lovely full tree in my bay window where I used to live but don't have the same layout where we are now. I was even lamenting about it to dh when I was putting ours up this weekend. I have made it look really nice and yours looks lovely too. We need to remind ourselves that every tree is beautiful no matter their shape or size lol!

cjt110 · 02/12/2018 19:30

Would garland like this do the trick to fill the gaps?

Our tree is flocked/snowy. How could I recreate that with plain garland?

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 02/12/2018 19:33

I had a tree like that a few years ago and I've now got a better one. You have decorated it well, it's just too skinny.

AviatorShades · 02/12/2018 19:39

I think it looks elegantConfusedSmile

cjt110 · 02/12/2018 19:42

It's fucking ridiculous I know but I'm actually having a panic about it...
