Should I complain to Tesco about this? (Graphic picture warning)

So I walked into town earlier with the kids, and it took a bit longer than I had planned (long post office queues etc). On the way home DD1 (who is 4, wears pull-ups, and isn't toilet trained yet; and who has quite pronounced developmental, social and communication needs - likely autistic but awaiting appointment with paediatrician) started crying and getting distressed but wouldn't say what was wrong, other than she was 'wet' (although I couldn't see any obvious wetness on her trousers when I checked). By this point we were literally halfway home (about 10 mins away) and no changing facilities or anything nearby since we were just in a residential street. So I just told her we would be home in a bit and I'd sort her out as soon as we got home, but she was really wailing by this point. Due to her communication issues all she could say was that she was 'wet'. Got home and went to change her nappy and was horrified to see the sides of the nappy were covered in blood, where it had literally gotten wet and chaffed against her skin so badly on the way home. She's got huge blisters on each side of her leg and I feel just awful. I've covered each side in nappy cream and put some bandage over it, but don't know what else to do. I've never seen her as upset as she was when I got home and I had to try and clean her up and sort her legs out as she was so sore poor thing. The thing is I've never had this before, and can only assume, because Tesco have recently moved over to a new 'Fred and Flo' own-make of pull-ups that they are made out of a slightly rougher material than the old ones? Should I make a complaint to Tesco or chalk it up as just one of those things?

Oh no, poor little thing. I happened to have just bought a pack yesterday and then saw on Twitter today someone complaining that they're too rough.

Rainatnight · 30/11/2018 14:23

And yes, definitely make a complaint!

twoheaped · 30/11/2018 14:23

I would make them aware you have an issue with the product, yes.

I would definitely complain, your poor DD :(

CookPassBabtridge · 30/11/2018 14:25

Oh my god that's terrible, definitely complain!

BirthdayKake · 30/11/2018 14:26

Oh my god, your poor girl :( that is horrendous. Yes, complain

TeaByTheSeaside · 30/11/2018 14:28

Another vote for complain. I admit to being a bit slack with changing wet nappies and never have I heard of such a thing. That's a lot of blood!

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/11/2018 14:30

That looks horrendous. Please complain, that should not happen.

CryingMessFFS · 30/11/2018 14:33

Yes complain, that is awful, hope your DD is OK poor little love

MyKingdomForBrie · 30/11/2018 14:33

Jesus. I'd be tempted to make her a nurse apt from those pics it looks horrendous.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 30/11/2018 14:34

Chemical burns from nappies happen quite a lot.

KitKat1985 · 30/11/2018 14:34

Thank you for your replies. I admit the pull-up was overdue a change (as I say I got held up in town for longer than I expected). Feeling a bit shit that I didn't pick up on what she was trying to tell me on the way home, as she was obviously telling me she was "wet" as she didn't know how else to tell me something was wrong with her pull-up. Feeling really shit about my mum skills right now.

Definitely complain, Tesco nappies gave dd the most horrific nappy rash, she was red raw and bleeding (not that much) and cleared up as soon as I changed back to pampers. I hate them.

JellieEllie · 30/11/2018 14:36

I would complain.
This happened to me as a child and I'm now in my mid 30s and have deep scars on the inside of both of my thighs.
The nappy had been rubbing and chafed and blistered my legs. This led to an infection and lots of visits to hospital.
If I can get a good picture I will to show how bad the damage was and still is.
If you complain it may prevent this happening to further children.
I really hope your little one is ok.

keepingbees · 30/11/2018 14:39

Yes complain. And don't blame yourself you weren't to know.
I had a similar thing happen with my DS when he was a toddler with an Asda nappy. He hadn't been in it long but he became distressed and on investigating it had cut into him. I wrote to them but they didn't want to know, they just sent a £3 voucher which aside from the fact it solved nothing, it didn't even cover the cost of the nappies or the cream I had to buy afterwards. They did improve them eventually though.

Thesearmsofmine · 30/11/2018 14:39

Oh the poor thing, yes I would definitely complain.

Okay. Will send them an e-mail now. Will let you know what they say.

Here's a picture of DD1's legs. They're looking a bit better now that they've had some cream (that's what the white stuff is) and the bandages have been on them a bit, but you can see that they're going to be sore for a few days.

FannyFifer · 30/11/2018 14:48

Jeezo, yes you should complain. That's horrific. No matter how wet a nappy is it shouldn't do that.
We've all left a nappy till we can get home & sort it.

Zorayda · 30/11/2018 14:52

Paint with egg white. Will keep the chafed area and still allow it to breathe. One of those odd old wives tales that works

ladydickisathingapparently · 30/11/2018 15:03

Yes I’d complain. Is it definitely “just” chafing? I only ask because there was a post on our local Facebook page regarding a poor little girl with what looked like burns in her nappy area. The Mum said the new nappies she used were stiffer and shinier than her usual ones and had an odd chemical smell.

KitKat1985 · 30/11/2018 15:04

Okay I've sent them an e-mail and will let you know what they say (I'm expecting just a generic 'sorry our product didn't live up to your expectations' type e-mail though).

OP posts:
KitKat1985 · 30/11/2018 15:06

As far as I can tell LadyDick it's "just" chaffing. I couldn't see any evidence of anything else.

That is awful! Poor little one!

Definitely complain.

I have lots of friends who are unhappy with the new Fred and flo range. One of them has a little boy who has autism and is non verbal and he was screaming after she’d wiped him with the wipes and he had a severe allergic reaction! I don’t know what they’ve put into these things but they’re way too harsh!

Rainatnight · 30/11/2018 15:34

Think I'll just chuck the ones I've bought in the bin!
