Should I complain to Tesco about this? (Graphic picture warning)

So I walked into town earlier with the kids, and it took a bit longer than I had planned (long post office queues etc). On the way home DD1 (who is 4, wears pull-ups, and isn't toilet trained yet; and who has quite pronounced developmental, social and communication needs - likely autistic but awaiting appointment with paediatrician) started crying and getting distressed but wouldn't say what was wrong, other than she was 'wet' (although I couldn't see any obvious wetness on her trousers when I checked). By this point we were literally halfway home (about 10 mins away) and no changing facilities or anything nearby since we were just in a residential street. So I just told her we would be home in a bit and I'd sort her out as soon as we got home, but she was really wailing by this point. Due to her communication issues all she could say was that she was 'wet'. Got home and went to change her nappy and was horrified to see the sides of the nappy were covered in blood, where it had literally gotten wet and chaffed against her skin so badly on the way home. She's got huge blisters on each side of her leg and I feel just awful. I've covered each side in nappy cream and put some bandage over it, but don't know what else to do. I've never seen her as upset as she was when I got home and I had to try and clean her up and sort her legs out as she was so sore poor thing. The thing is I've never had this before, and can only assume, because Tesco have recently moved over to a new 'Fred and Flo' own-make of pull-ups that they are made out of a slightly rougher material than the old ones? Should I make a complaint to Tesco or chalk it up as just one of those things?

Have pmd you op x

IJustLostTheGame · 30/11/2018 16:14

Poor little thing, I hope it clears up quickly.

PragmaticWench · 30/11/2018 16:20

Please don't put egg white on broken skin (as suggested by a previous poster), there's a theory that allergies may be caused by food proteins making contact with broken skin.

Wow. To be honest before I looked at the pictures I thought you were over reacting and it couldnt possibly be worth complaining about but wow. Thats horrendous. I didnt even think a nappy could do that! I would 100% complain and I would make sure I included the bloody nappy pictures in the email to make sure they didnt have my initial reaction. Hope your dd is feeling a bit better and dont blame yourself, many a time ive waited to get home before changing a slightly ripe nappy. Nobody would even consider that could happen!

KitKat1985 · 30/11/2018 16:36

God you can see how bad the damage is now the cream has worn off, particularly on her left leg. She's so sore. Sad (I put more cream on after taking these photos).

These are chemical burns.

CryingMessFFS · 30/11/2018 16:47

They look like chemical burns OP - like pee has leaked onto the frillyish leg area and reacted to something on the nappy? I’d get her checked at a doctor, a walk in center or minor injuries if possible? Even a pharmacist this evening. Your poor DD x

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 30/11/2018 16:47

Yes take her to a walk in center, show these photos.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 30/11/2018 16:48

Also inform tescos as soon as you can.

VioletPickles · 30/11/2018 16:48

That's horrendous! How long was she in the nappy for?

KitKat1985 · 30/11/2018 16:50

Violet - 3 hours-ish? As I say I know she was overdue a change but I never thought a pull up would cause that level of damage.

DonaldDucksTowel · 30/11/2018 16:50

Holy shit that’s horrendous, your poor DD Sad

SylviaAndSidney · 30/11/2018 16:53

Jesus H Christ that is horrific, poor lamb Sad

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 30/11/2018 16:54

To be fair it can happen with nappies from anywhere, a few years ago it was Boots nappies.

Perfectly1mperfect · 30/11/2018 16:56

That's horrendous, your poor daughter. A nappy overdue a change shouldn't do that. Contact tesco and I'd try to get your daughter in to see a doctor in case anything can help or to reduce the risk of it getting infected. I hope she's ok.

Nothisispatrick · 30/11/2018 16:56

That’s awful and those sores need checking by a doctor.

babysharkah · 30/11/2018 16:58

That looks like more than chafing. I think you need to get her checked out.

Racecardriver · 30/11/2018 17:00

Definitely complain. But don’t put nappy cream on her. Once the skin is broken nappy creams just make it worse. Use first aid cream instead.

Eatmycheese · 30/11/2018 17:02

Jesus, poor little lamb! That’s horrific.
I’ve had this (but not quite as bad with my second child and Morrisons nappies it was awful)
I would definitely contact tesco as well as get those burns looked at by a professional at a walk in centre. Wipes and some creams may be exacerbating it

Really hope your little one is ok

MadMum101 · 30/11/2018 17:02

God. Can you call your GP for an emergency appointment this evening? That warrants it. Just to check and give you something in case it gets infected?

Poor little girl. Do not let this go. Can take bloody nappy and photos (and unused) to the Tesco you bought them from and lodge complaint in person?

KitKat1985 · 30/11/2018 17:03

Do you really think it's a chemical burn? The nappy was intact so I don't believe any of the chemicals in the nappy leaked out?

OP posts:
justaboutsurviving · 30/11/2018 17:03

Poor thing! I've noticed that the new Tesco pull up are tougher and smell very chemically.

Can I recommend Aldi's pull ups? They are so soft and should hopefully not aggravate the area anymore. But I do second what pp have said it needs looking at

FeckingEll · 30/11/2018 17:04

Ahhh. Can you take bloody nappy, photos (and unused nappies) back to store to complain in person.

CarrieBlu · 30/11/2018 17:05

I think I would get that checked. Your poor little girl. Don’t feel bad, it’s not on you that the pull up has done that, an overdue pull up should not do that.

Loopylou6 · 30/11/2018 17:05

I'm pretty sure those are chemical burns op, I would try to get her looked at tonight.
