Should I complain to Tesco about this? (Graphic picture warning)

So I walked into town earlier with the kids, and it took a bit longer than I had planned (long post office queues etc). On the way home DD1 (who is 4, wears pull-ups, and isn't toilet trained yet; and who has quite pronounced developmental, social and communication needs - likely autistic but awaiting appointment with paediatrician) started crying and getting distressed but wouldn't say what was wrong, other than she was 'wet' (although I couldn't see any obvious wetness on her trousers when I checked). By this point we were literally halfway home (about 10 mins away) and no changing facilities or anything nearby since we were just in a residential street. So I just told her we would be home in a bit and I'd sort her out as soon as we got home, but she was really wailing by this point. Due to her communication issues all she could say was that she was 'wet'. Got home and went to change her nappy and was horrified to see the sides of the nappy were covered in blood, where it had literally gotten wet and chaffed against her skin so badly on the way home. She's got huge blisters on each side of her leg and I feel just awful. I've covered each side in nappy cream and put some bandage over it, but don't know what else to do. I've never seen her as upset as she was when I got home and I had to try and clean her up and sort her legs out as she was so sore poor thing. The thing is I've never had this before, and can only assume, because Tesco have recently moved over to a new 'Fred and Flo' own-make of pull-ups that they are made out of a slightly rougher material than the old ones? Should I make a complaint to Tesco or chalk it up as just one of those things?

I've had 5 DC, all late toilet trained, so about 16-17 years worth of disposable nappy and pull up experience. Used all sorts of brands from expensive to cheap. I've never seen anything like that, even when a change was a bit late.

They've changed the nappies as they'll have found a cheaper and inferior way of producing them (I bet they still cost the same!) and it's at the expense of baby and child comfort.

It's completely unacceptable; I'm glad you complained. I just hope they do something about it.

Your poor DD.

Skyejuly · 01/12/2018 21:57

Tesco told me they have had many complaints about them?

DeltaFlyer · 01/12/2018 21:58

We used to buy the older Tesco nappies and never had a problem and now they're changed d's was getting a sore bum and thighs. We used half a pack before switching to Aldi.
To answer a pp the nappies that we got from the f and f range were about 50p more expensive for a 56 pack than before.

Photos were completely unnecessary

DeltaFlyer · 01/12/2018 22:01

It does say graphic picture warning.
You didn't have to click on the thread Hmm

ForgetMeLots · 01/12/2018 22:07

Bit vague though, I was assuming there’d be half a toe floating in a Tesco ready meal.

Had the title been: ‘piss and blood stained nappy’ I wouldn’t have clicked on.

I just think a description would have sufficed in illustrating the story.

FATEdestiny · 01/12/2018 22:14

Oh @KitKat1985, what a hideous thing to go through, especially at the start of the Christmas season when everything is supposed to be jolly.

Just wanted to add that you have no need to doubt your patenting abilities over this. Please don't think you're a shot mum, you're not. [Hugs]

ThunderOnlyHappens · 01/12/2018 22:19

@ForgetMeLots the photos came up well after the description of what they contained so you are bring deliberately obtuse. Bigger picture here eh? Hmm

OP-three hours is not too long, you are not to blame for this. You are seeking appropriate medical advice and are being a lot calmer than some would be. I hope your daughter feels better soon. Thanks for you.

ForgetMeLots · 01/12/2018 22:22

Is that on the app? On mobile they come up first, all three of them.

DunkandEggAgain · 01/12/2018 22:22

I think the photos are very relevant to the thread and situation.

Choccywoccyhooha · 01/12/2018 22:24

Oh my goodness, your poor little girl. I hope Tesco treat this with the severity it deserves. This is just awful. I hope she is sleeping soundly.

DunkandEggAgain · 01/12/2018 22:25

Your poor girl, I really feel for you and for her.

I hope her legs clear up very very soon.

I'm really starting to detest Tesco. They are my least favourite shop and I always try to go anywhere else for bits and pieces, than spend it in there.

redorred · 01/12/2018 22:35

Oh that looks so painful. Hope she heals quickly! I will definitely be avoiding Fred and flo range!

MrDonut · 01/12/2018 23:59

I don’t doubt that the Daily Mail would love this story, if you want to make some money and get loads of publicity.

Crookedcolours · 02/12/2018 00:15

Ouch ouch ouch Sad

Op I've had chemical burns before (from work) and they're really painful!

I got some burn cream from the dr that really helped, painkillers too should help

KitKat1985 · 02/12/2018 06:19

Hi @FateDestiny. Not seen you on here for a while. Thanks for your kind words and hope your little ones are all getting on okay.

ForgetMeLots - It was easier to explain the problem with photos as to why I was so upset. I was clear to put a warning in the thread title. If you don't want to read the thread then you aren't obliged to.

Thank you for all of your kind words. I sent the nappy off for testing yesterday (no doubt will be a waste of time) but DD seems a lot brighter now her sores have been dressed.

Skyejuly · 02/12/2018 10:21

I really hope they sort this. I will let you know how my emails go.

Blackladybug · 02/12/2018 12:15

Jeez that's horrific! No nappy should do that!!

I have 2 packs of fred and flo nappies unopened. Not sure what to do with them now!

skyesayshi · 02/12/2018 16:53

Poor DD, that does look sore. I would certainly make Tesco aware of it, because if something is wrong with a product or a batch, then they only know when you make them aware of it. They can investigate or change the product if necessary.

I had exploding Tassimo pods and googled it and loads of people had the same problem. I complained and they sent me vouchers and replacement products.

cantfindname · 02/12/2018 18:15

OP I am about to message you x

ginyogarepeat · 13/12/2018 06:01

How is your little one now OP?

Pinky333777 · 16/12/2018 12:56

Omg.
My LO has been using these. We were using mamia and he's never had nappy rash before.
He's suddenly developed very sore patches. Red raw, hot to touch, weeping and even bleeding.
It reminded me of burns actually.
I blamed teething and loose nappies.
However nothing was clearing it up. Airing, sudocreme, metanium etc. The nurse have him some hydrocortisone which didn't seem to do a lot at first.
But then I bought some Lidl nappies for grandmas house.
Kept airing and applying creams and by morning it was starting to improve.
We got home, I bathed him, let him air half an hour and applied the hydrocortisone and then put on a Tesco nappy.
Within half an hour his rash had flared up again to being really sore and bleeding.
It MUST be the nappies. Perhaps they didn't cause the rash as we have been using them about a month, but they certainly seem to be making it worse.
Poor kids xx

SophieGiroux · 22/12/2018 23:36

Did they get back to you @KitKat1985?

Snowydaysaregreat · 23/12/2018 00:00

I had the same issue with tesco nappies. Normally buy aldi but couldn't get there that day. Dp got some in tesco put one on and in her little creases looked sore when changed her that was after 2 hours, figured maybe was on too tight or sizing different . Put next one on looser and the rash got worse, we noticed as she was grumpy and pulling at her sides (Near the velcro bit), Cue rummage thro changing bag that we keep in dps car as a spare to see us thro to next day to get to aldi.

TheSheepofWallSt · 23/12/2018 00:07

DS (2) had nappy rash for the first time the other day- and it was horrific. Blistered and raw around his scrotum- just awful. He couldn’t sit down.
Nursery had put him in a different nappy (no idea what make) accidentally- he’s always been in pampers after he reacted badly to Huggies as a newborn- and I’m convinced that was the reason.
