I saw this on Buzzfeed and thought it was interesting. What is the craziest/funniest rumour you have heard about yourself?
I once heard I was a gogo dancer (I was in high school at the time) and my students once spread a rumour I had ran away to Prague.

Not me but my 10 year old dd came home from school yesterday and seemingly after the parent teacher meetings last week the teacher decided to take all the girls in her class into a room and ask them to write down who in the class was mean to them as seemingly there had been alot of complaints about bitchiness between the girls.

They girls had to then read it out to the class (not sure this is how I would have handled it ) Luckily nothing was said about dd or by dd, she tends to hang out with the boys and play football.

At the end of the discussion one of her girl friends said to the teacher that there was a bad rumor going around the school and it was said to her by a girl in the year ahead that lives on her road. The rumor was about my dd and it was that she was transgender.

My dd had recently got her hair cut up short and this is what was being said about her.

DD said she started laughing when it was said and the teacher said she was glad that was how she took it and is going to have a word with the teacher in the other class.

That I had given birth to DD in the lift at the local shopping centre.

NobodysChild · 27/11/2018 15:01

I drove an automatic car because I had a false leg. No.
I'd been in a car crash and had a stroke. No.
I was seen entering a guy's house at lunch time every day and was having an affair. Deffo not me!
I'm a gypsy. No again.
I was the reason an ex friend left her husband. I didn't know anything until he trashed my car twice!
Married a guy for his money and won the lottery. Not married and won £25 twice lol.

christmaschristmaschristmas · 27/11/2018 15:27

That I married DH for his money. Odd considering at the time I earned more than DH and had much more wealthy family. People would tap my purse when I was out buying coffee etc and say 'ooooh is that the bank of DH'. Royally pissed me off!

There are rumours at work (generally by quite junior members of staff) that I am brutal and a real taskmaster. I don't know where this comes from and it upsets me a little! When a junior makes a mistake I often invite them to my office and we have a nice cup of tea whilst I explain their mistake and how it should be done. Not in a patronising way just in a passing on knowledge way as they generally have not realised their mistake.

Kismetjayn · 27/11/2018 15:39

While in highschool, that I gave BJ's to boys in the woods.
I didn't. I turned down the charming offer from one boy to give him a bj in the woods. Of course reality wouldn't make him look like the sex god he thought he was, so he had to tell everyone his story...

Everyone thought he 'converted' me into being a slut because he was French. ???

I hadn't even had a first kiss at the time.

FrangipaniBlue · 27/11/2018 15:48

When I first met DH people told him not to go near me because I was like the village bike.

I was 16 and had only 1 boyfriend before him Confused

paap1975 · 27/11/2018 15:55

Very close (at the time) friend, covered up her own affair by telling everyone I was sleeping with a married friend of ours.
I wasn't. In fact, I was in the early stages of my relationship with my now DH.
What saddens me is I was very close to her teenage daughter (had been since birth) and, since the "friend" cut me off to save face, I missed out on seeing her daughter for about 4 years.
"Friend" is still involved with her married man 5 years down the line...

FoulMouthedMotherFigure · 27/11/2018 15:56

That DH and I got married wearing full Starfleet uniform.

...I suppose it was faintly believable because we were both great fans of Star Trek, but we definitely didn't take it that far. To make it even funnier, I didn't even hear this rumour until 27 years later when some classmates and I met up at a 30th anniversary school reunion.

As we sat around boozing catching up on 30 years' worth of what-have-you-been-doing, one of them turned to me and said brightly, "I hope you've brought your wedding photo along, Foul!" "Errr, no, why would I? It was 27 years ago."

Complete confusion, followed by a ferocious whispered exchange with the class gossip, when I overheard, "You told me Foul got married in a Starfleet uniform!" and the denial, "No I didn't, I said in the wedding photo they were doing a Vulcan salute!" Grin

BlueJava · 27/11/2018 15:57

About 30 years ago I used to work in a bank as a cashier. Someone started a rumour that I was seen on a bus boasting that I used to short change customers when I was on the till and then with what I'd made I paid my bus fare to work and back.

This got so serious (before I even knew about the rumour) I was called in to see the branch manager and my own manager and asked to explain about what I'd said on the bus. I was of course completely in the dark and said (truthfully) that I didn't travel on a bus as I was dropped off to work by my Dad so had no idea what they were talking about. It was pretty horrible at the time but looking back now it's quite funny! No idea where all that came from.

GlassSuppers · 27/11/2018 15:59

That I was in a mental institute after suffering a major breakdown after my EX dumped me Shock
That's what he told people when they asked about me! Angry

selepele · 27/11/2018 16:06

i was dead, on drugs and a prostitute

i mean i must be all those things to not talk to my wonderful family Hmm

MadamBatty · 27/11/2018 16:07

That I lied about having a degree from a particular university....by my sister....she was at my graduation.

yellowplumpreserves · 27/11/2018 16:08

Not particularly funny, but when i was in about 15 or 16, I went into school and a friend I’d had since primary school came to me a bit upset to assure me that she’d been telling everyone it wasn’t true. I had no idea what she was talking about. Turned out someone had spread a rumour that I’d reduced her to tears by slagging off her religion to her face. It had never happened. We were from different religious backgrounds and had (occasionally) discussed differences but in a very casual and respectful way. Neither of us ever found out how the rumour started. My friend hadn’t been aware of anyone reducing her to tears so wasn’t even mistaken identity.

Mulberry72 · 27/11/2018 16:10

I changed high schools when I was 13 and went to one out of our local area. The rumour in the original school was that I’d been murdered!

WhatAsituation · 27/11/2018 16:15

That I was seen being cruel to my child when I thought nobody was looking (by a pre school manager)

That I made up my children’s allergies for attention (by the same pre school manager)

That I only had home start help because I was lazy and wanted daily housekeeping ?? (Same pre school manager)

That I fundraised for my own financial gain not medical equipment and I wanted the attention (pre school manager again )

That I had munchausens by proxy (same pre school manager)

She sent her ‘findings’ to ss
They nearly took my dc

Bubblysqueak · 27/11/2018 16:19

That I was having an affair with a male uni friend. Started by mother in law who dropped by unexpected and we were studying in the dining room.
What made me chuckle was is gay.

DaisyDreaming · 27/11/2018 16:23

That I’m terminally ill. I wish my doctors or someone had thought to tell me 😂

nozzel · 27/11/2018 16:39

I lost all my shoulder length hair due to chemo as had breast cancer & once I was well enough to do the school run again, another Mum said how good it was of me to shave all my hair off for charity. When i told her it was due to having cancer & chemo, she was mortified.

MrsBartlettforthewin · 27/11/2018 16:44

The kids at the first school I taught at thought I was having a relationship with the other Drama teacher. The fact that he was gay and I was married completely past them by. What made me laugh was the rumour traveled to my new school a year later that I'd left my first school because me and him had had a very public scream shouty break up. He laughed hard when I told him this and then we spent some time dropping comments about each other into conversation with kids to see if the new rumours made it make to us. They did it was great fun.

6demandingchildren · 27/11/2018 16:47

Apparently me and DH sold drugs to get our business started, we didn't know about this rumor until about 10 years later, and very generous friend gave us the money, no drugs involved lol

KindergartenKop · 27/11/2018 16:51

That I had 9 kids. I was about 24. Then this rumour resurfaced again about 6 years later.

MoreThanJustANumber · 27/11/2018 17:07

Apparently I am a drug dealer.

No idea why the nutter across the road thought that, only found out because he called the number on the side of a friend's van that was parked outside to warn him to have nothing to do with me because I was dealing drugs from my house!

Some people must be so bored to make up such crap.

Flowerfae · 27/11/2018 17:12

That I'd had an affair with my husband (when we met) he'd split up with his ex-partner about 3 years before we met. It seems to be because there is an age difference between us, heard it a few times, people said that they had assumed it was an affair because he's older than me, they thought he'd left his ex for me. I'm actually really close to my stepson and I know none of this has come from his mother so I don't know where it started. :D

Orangecake123 · 27/11/2018 17:35

That I was a lesbian and had a crush on another girl in my class.

It was an all girls school and I spent the last three years of secondary school depressed, suicidal and very lonely.
