Christmas film adoration and rant!

I love Christmas movies. They are filling my Saturdays currently (tragic).

BUT

I’m getting very hacked off with the ‘re-write history’ ones, as it inevitably seems to say that someone who chooses their career is missing out, and that a —mundane— family life is superior.

They never seem to show it the other way round. I realise that’s not Christmassy, but come on!

They have taught me a valuable lesson though. I’m still single, as I haven’t yet met Santa’s heir 😂

Oh please don't say I broke the thread!!

TheMadGardener · 03/12/2018 20:58

I am also wallowing in Christmas movies. I am always the last one in bed so record them and watch sneakily on my own. DH takes the micky if he's around. DD1 likes the occasional one. Channel 5, True Christmas and Paramount Network all showing them. Some are good and some are awful. They all seem to be filmed in Vancouver.

Thought The Christmas Train was a bit meh despite having superior actors like Danny Glover and Joan Cusack. Saw one yesterday called Snowed Inn Christmas which I enjoyed a lot. (It's on again on Thursday) A Gift Wrapped Christmas was also fun. There's another royal one on Thursday too - Christmas with a Prince - where she's a doctor and the prince gets injured.

Probably am sad for enjoying Hallmark Christmas movies but life is a bit crap generally at the moment and comfort movies probably healthier for me than comfort eating!

Has anyone seen this page for generating your own Hallmark Christmas movie plot? Quite amusing.

I wasn't expecting a shag. Just maybe a kiss on the lips. But I guess if your 2 year bf turns up and you don't touch them at all. Well that's not a relationship

I’m so happy to find this thread! Even as a kid I used to scour the TV guide and watch every bit of Christmas schmaltz I could find.

I just watched Angels In The Snow, on the recommendation of so many of you good people. It’s so bad it’s good, and I loved it. Weren’t the Tucker family just a picture of sugary perfection? I’d have gone mad spending Christmas with them.

Oratorio · 03/12/2018 23:16

My absolute favourite cheesy Christmas movie is Christmas Magic, where a woman has a car accident and is sent as an angel to help a man with his failing bistro (yes he’s a widower with a little girl, of course). The keyboard playing and corny singing at the end is a wonder to behold.

Me and husband watch it every year, except our sky box broke this year so we’ve lost it, and it doesn’t seem to be in the listings yet 😭

NancyDonahue · 04/12/2018 07:37

I have trouble remembering all the titles so it's hard to come up with a top 5!

In no particular order..

I. A Family for Christmas

  1. The Christmas Switch
  2. Snowglobe
  3. The one where the nurse goes back in time.
  4. The 'Sliding doors' (Duff sister) one.
NancyDonahue · 05/12/2018 20:10

How are we all doing? I haven't managed any Christmas movies for two days. Feeling bereft!

TheZeppo · 05/12/2018 20:30

I haven’t either! I’ve now got 7 stored up Grin

I've watched snowmance and the Netflix Christmas Prince Wedding movie. Can't remember the actual title. Going to watch snowed inn Christmas now (as I love Hayley from OTH), but can't remember the other movie everyone else was recommending. Which one was it? With the twist?

TheMadGardener · 05/12/2018 20:54

I watched Just In Time For Christmas yesterday. It was quite fun, with a bonus of Christopher Lloyd being in it as the grandpa. Plus DH and I both recognised that when the hero and heroine were supposed to be in Seattle they were actually in front of the Empress Hotel in Victoria BC, where we've been! Grin

Today I recorded A Husband For Christmas , which I may get to watch before bed tonight if everyone else goes to bed early enough.

TheMadGardener · 05/12/2018 20:57

I think Angels in the Snow was the one with the twist ending people were talking about.

Figmentofimagination · 05/12/2018 21:04

Thanks TheMadGardener

burnoutbabe · 05/12/2018 21:05

I have set angels to download as it's on catch up.
I do think they should probably start doing some gay interest Christmas movies. It can still be career lady comes back to small town and meets nice widow with a child. That would be refreshing to see.

TheMadGardener · 05/12/2018 21:13

Would be nice to see some interracial Hallmark movies too. Most of them are whiter than white! Presumably they don't want to upset all those Hallmark watchers in certain parts of the USA. I thought Snowed Inn Christmas was unusually daring having the hero's sister with a black husband and mixed-race child. Usually the only black character is the hero or heroine's best friend.

BrieAndChilli · 05/12/2018 21:35

I watched one the other day where the heroine was one of those twins that were in 90s stuff - Tamara something and the love interest was a white male. She inherited an inn from her aunt in some snowy town

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 05/12/2018 22:35

My fave Hallmark Christmas movie is without a doubt , The Christmas Card. I have it on my planner from years back marked with keep

RightOnTheEdge · 06/12/2018 12:44

I watched The twelve days of Christmas or something like that. With a radio dj and a journalist.
I liked that, it was sweet

Except for the obvious bit where he thinks she's tricked him and just talks over her and storms out with out listening to her explanation. Rude! Grin

NancyDonahue · 06/12/2018 13:41

I'm watching Christmas in Evergreen. It has everything! Gorgeous town, pretty vet with curly hair and lots of different coats, handsome doctor widower, cute kid, tree decorating, cookie baking, ice skating and pugs Grin

Figmentofimagination · 06/12/2018 13:43

Just started watching angels in the snow. I feel like I've watched it before, but can't remember the twist.

DMCWelshCakes · 06/12/2018 13:45

I'm back with channel 5 and Snowed Inn Christmas. Xmas Grin

Figmentofimagination · 06/12/2018 14:27

Ooo! I think I've guessed the twist!

SillySallySingsSongs · 06/12/2018 14:32

I'm back with channel 5 and Snowed Inn Christmas.

Me too. First one in a few days.

RightOnTheEdge · 06/12/2018 14:56

I just watched Snowed Inn Christmas too. I feel all warm and snuggly.

Heuschrecke · 06/12/2018 15:19

I haven't watched a Christmas film since Saturday 1st Dec. Haven't even re-watched 'Angels In The Snow' yet. You know when you eat far too much chocolate? Well, it's a bit like that! Must get my act together to start again Xmas Grin

Figmentofimagination · 06/12/2018 16:48

I guessed it right.
Now watching back to Christmas. Only just started it. When I heard her friends voice I thought it was a child 😂.
