Christmas film adoration and rant!

I love Christmas movies. They are filling my Saturdays currently (tragic).

BUT

I’m getting very hacked off with the ‘re-write history’ ones, as it inevitably seems to say that someone who chooses their career is missing out, and that a —mundane— family life is superior.

They never seem to show it the other way round. I realise that’s not Christmassy, but come on!

They have taught me a valuable lesson though. I’m still single, as I haven’t yet met Santa’s heir 😂

DD and I were trying to come up with a plot encompassing all the plot lines of our favourite cheesy Christmas films yesterday. Our favourites are Single Santa seeks Mrs. Claus and the one with the locket (?)

TheZeppo · 02/12/2018 19:03

I’m loving the Christmas train currently! Does actually feel slightly different...

I'm liking this train one too.

I enjoyed the xmas train - watched it the other day. Interesting twist!!!!

Wingbing · 02/12/2018 19:59

Found my people. I’ve been watching Christmas films all weekend! I am now watching Angels in the Snow, so thank you!

PrivateEggnog · 02/12/2018 20:26

Does no-one share my love of Tony Danza Stealing Christmas?

SillySallySingsSongs · 02/12/2018 20:39

@PrivateEggnog I enjoy that one. Seen it a few times.

AlpacaPicnic · 02/12/2018 20:55

Just finished Angels in the snow. Guessed the 'twist' pretty quickly but I still liked it. I want to rent that log mansion 'cabin' for a month or two! Might not drive the car during a blizzard though...

TwistedChristmas · 02/12/2018 21:39

PrivateEggnog I love Stealing Christmas! I'm always disappointed he does rob the bank though but thoroughly cheered that single mom as daughter meet him in their pick up truck when he's released from prison.

PrivateEggnog · 02/12/2018 21:50

Yay! Pleased other people like it too Grin

Twisted I agree, I think they could have thought through the ending a bit more. That was the weakest bit of it really. My favourite bits are when he's first being Santa, and keeps giving the kids short shrift, and when he keeps calling Doug "Dick" etc Grin

I'm going to try and watch The Christmas Train next due to the rave reviews on here!

Unihorn · 03/12/2018 08:11

Heuschrecke
Hallmark does "excellent" non Christmas films too!

MamaLovesMango · 03/12/2018 10:21

Today’s the day. I switched over to something trusty ‘awful’ (Christmas at Holly a lodge?!) at nap time yesterday but DH crashed my fun and I had to turn it over to what we’ve been watching together.

Today’s he’s out all day so after our class this afternoon my TV will be tacktastic. I think I can get the True Christmas Channel on my TV.

NancyDonahue · 03/12/2018 10:32

We watched a great one yesterday. Snowglobe (not to be confused with the one where the snowglobe hits her on the head). It's a kind of mix of Elf and Enchanted. Very Christmassy but not quite as cheesy as the Hallmark ones Grin[santa]

Ooops that didn't work

queenrollo · 03/12/2018 10:43

nancydonahue I love that Snowglobe film

SillySallySingsSongs · 03/12/2018 11:29

Watching Christmas in Evergreen. The girl is the same one from Angels in the Snow.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 03/12/2018 12:05

I’ve not seen Snowglobe for a while, yes love that one too.

Won’t get much viewing done today as DH is home, believe it or not he is Father Christmas each year for a National Trust property. You’d think with that kind of job he’d be full of Xmas feelings but no....he sits and royally takes the piss while I watch. Bloody men.

MamaLovesMango · 03/12/2018 16:02

A Holiday Wish Come True on Channel 5+1.

Let’s do this.

SillySallySingsSongs · 03/12/2018 18:06

Just watched it. A good old tear jerker.

MamaLovesMango · 03/12/2018 18:16

It was sweet. I recognised the guy but can’t place him.

SillySallySingsSongs · 03/12/2018 18:31

I recognised him too and the MIL

SheStoodInTheStorm · 03/12/2018 19:02

I feel I need a top 5 of these films so I can try and find them!

So, what would your top 5 be?

MamaLovesMango · 03/12/2018 19:26

The MIL was in ET. She was Elliot’s Mum!

As for the guy, I’ve read his filmography on Wikipedia and still don’t know what I would’ve seen him in...Nashville possibly.

Giraffeowlllama · 03/12/2018 20:13

I love Xmas films but ( to lower the tone) in a Christmas in evergreen. I'm watching atm. Are we really supposed to believe that people in their 30s in a long distance relationship have only ever kissed? I know it's a family film so I'm not expecting for anything to happen but really? I just watched a Jamie King one before and I could believe as they had their first kiss at the end. Or am I just completely wrong? I'm British and I couldn't imagine a long term relationship where nothing happens?

NancyDonahue · 03/12/2018 20:38

Giraffe I haven't seen that one, but I watched one where the characters had obviously just had sex and there were a few sex references. I was shocked Shock. I didn't think sex existed at all in these films.. just hand holding whilst skating, loving hugs and a little kiss in the snow.
