Christmas film adoration and rant!

I love Christmas movies. They are filling my Saturdays currently (tragic).

BUT

I’m getting very hacked off with the ‘re-write history’ ones, as it inevitably seems to say that someone who chooses their career is missing out, and that a —mundane— family life is superior.

They never seem to show it the other way round. I realise that’s not Christmassy, but come on!

They have taught me a valuable lesson though. I’m still single, as I haven’t yet met Santa’s heir 😂

Just looked it up. Its called 'All about Christmas Eve'. Well worth a watch

TheZeppo · 29/11/2018 18:14

They fall madly in love so quickly! If they posted here we’d be screaming about red flags 😂

Do these gorgeous towns actually exist in the US? Or is it like their view of us? ...quaint villages, red phone boxes, tea & scones, bowler hats, we've all met the queen etc?

New England has a lot of towns that would look great in a Christmas film. There are certainly lots of beautiful mountain towns in the USA and some incredible scenery. Buuuut, there are also many very boring, concrete towns. It’s such a new country compared to the UK, so some areas can suffer from a lack of character.

Look, I'm never going to watch the one where the lovely family have to live with the grinchy family over Christmas and teach them to be lovely, so could someone DM me the twist?

DieDieFrickenDie · 29/11/2018 19:39

Window Wonderland is my favourite. Rival department store window dressers and well...you can guess the rest. It was on channel 5 a week or two ago and I forgot to record it. I'm saddened by this so please give a shout out if anyone knows when or if it comes on again!
Also 12 dates of Christmas with Amy Smart and Dawson from Dawson's Creek is really good fun too.

Kikithewitch · 29/11/2018 19:45

I have found my people!
My kids rip me mercilessly about my love of cheesy Christmas films. I love Christmas24 and true Christmas.

SillySallySingsSongs · 29/11/2018 19:52

#DieDieFrickenDie You can get quite a few of the ones that are on C5 on their catch up thingy. It maybe on there.

TheZeppo · 29/11/2018 20:17

I love the Amy Smart one!

Does anyone else adore Christmas fiction too? I'm a sucker for a glittery cover Blush. Trisha Ashley and Karen Swan are my favourites.

AlpacaPicnic · 29/11/2018 22:37

Our local The Works has the traditional 3for£5 paperbacks and there were 3 Nora Roberts Christmas shite novels there, all glittery covers and snow... My fingers were itching to pick them up!

Figmentofimagination · 29/11/2018 22:38

I love Nora Roberts books! I've read so many I've lost count!

Heuschrecke · 30/11/2018 06:53

I've PMd you, Morris!

ParadiseLaundry · 30/11/2018 07:43

I LOVE 12 Dates of Christmas too, especially the fact it has the Micheal Buble song Cold December Night in it too.

But it was actually Zack from Saved by the Bell, not Dawson I told you I loved all this shit Grin

Trinalbcnotanonman · 30/11/2018 10:12

Christmas Prince the Royal Wedding premiered on Netflix today.

AlpacaPicnic · 30/11/2018 13:03

Angels in the snow is on Ch 5 at 1.15! I can't wait to watch it :)

DMCWelshCakes · 30/11/2018 13:20

Alpaca Just settling down with it now!

SillySallySingsSongs · 30/11/2018 13:34

Just got in so going to watch it on plus 1

NancyDonahue · 30/11/2018 13:36

I'm watching Christmas Lodge [santa]. Another widower with a cute kid. Dh just text to say he's coming home soon so I won't be able to finish it. He'll just take the piss - he doesn't get it Blush

DMCWelshCakes · 30/11/2018 13:52

If the twist in this film is what I think it is, then it's

A) obvious, and
B) fabulous and festively cheesy.

I'll let you know at the end if I'm right.

PrivateParkin · 30/11/2018 14:49

DMC are you watching Angels in the Snow?! I'm watching on live pause - I have a suspicion about the twist but I could be way off... will not be posting any spoilers though!!

DMCWelshCakes · 30/11/2018 14:57

Yes I am and yes I was right.

I'm not putting any spoilers out there though - nobody panic!

Athena51 · 30/11/2018 15:02

I am in no way glued to Christmas 24 from October onward. And I DEFINITELY didn't watch their Christmas in July films while sweating my bits off in the heatwave Blush.

I consider myself an expert in all the various Christmas movie tropes from widowed single dad meets winsome lady to hardhearted corporate executive lady goes to close down Christmassy factory (think cookies or decorations) and everything in between.

Angels in the Snow legit made me cry and I'm very fond of one called 'Every Christmas has a Story' about a hard headed tv presenter rediscovering her Christmas spirit.

I keep this obsession very close to my chest as it would ruin my credibility completely' but here amongst my people I can confess all Smile

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/11/2018 15:09

Bloody DH is watching one of his tat horror/sci fi programmes Xmas Hmm

If it wasn't for the fact I am being ver' ver' busy and he has recorded the "Angels in the Snow" film, I'd be checking the patio for loose slabs ...............

DMCWelshCakes · 30/11/2018 16:12

70isalimit Xmas Grin

Heuschrecke · 30/11/2018 17:06

I can't decide when to re-watch 'Angels'. Recorded it earlier, so, do I watch it a bit later (DP is meeting a chum tonight)? Or do I leave it for some time over the weekend?!
