Christmas film adoration and rant!

I love Christmas movies. They are filling my Saturdays currently (tragic).

BUT

I’m getting very hacked off with the ‘re-write history’ ones, as it inevitably seems to say that someone who chooses their career is missing out, and that a —mundane— family life is superior.

They never seem to show it the other way round. I realise that’s not Christmassy, but come on!

They have taught me a valuable lesson though. I’m still single, as I haven’t yet met Santa’s heir 😂

Oh, now. Now's she's playing Silent Night on the piano. That's it

SillySallySingsSongs · 29/11/2018 14:28

Heuschrecke I can guess that she will end up with her soldier guest by the end though.

Heuschrecke · 29/11/2018 14:31

No spoilers!!

Grin I've not seen ot before I'm just guessing.

I'm missing my fix today. Just remembered one I watched one last year which is a knock off of one of my favourite Christmas movies ever - Family Man. It's called A Family for Christmas.

High flying single woman is a bit of a twat to her colleagues. There's a run in with a mysterious Santa. She wakes up one day in suburbia, married to her high school sweetheart with a couple of sugary kids. She's desperate to get back to her alternate life but... you can guess how it goes [santa]

ParadiseLaundry · 29/11/2018 14:45

I bloody love all this shite. My absolute favourite is Snow Globe Christmas, I think it's been on this year already but I already had it on the planner from last year. Tv exec falls and hits her head (don't they always?!) and wakes up marrieds to her college sweetheart with two kids in a picturesque snowy small town. In fact I might have to watch it this afternoon Wink

Loonoon · 29/11/2018 14:54

The thing that impresses me in these shoes is how they can walk around in the snow in a figure hugging jacket with no gloves or hat. If they wear a scarf it will be loosely draped. When it’s snowy I am bundled up in a long down jacket that makes me resemble the Michelin man with a woolly hat, big gloves etc. And my nose is normally running.

ToastedSandwichObsession · 29/11/2018 15:06

I'm currently watching It's a wonderful life for the first time EVER!

Paradise I love a snow globe Christmas, ivealreadywatched itagain this year.

Borntobeamum · 29/11/2018 15:10

What Chanel is 'Angels' on tomorrow?!

SillySallySingsSongs · 29/11/2018 15:12

Borntobeamum C5

Heuschrecke · 29/11/2018 15:17

Born, it's called Angels In The Snow. Friday, Channel 5 at 1.15 in the afternoon!

Yeah, Loonoon, our current heroine (Northpole 2: Open For Christmas - and it was on telly about 5 days ago because I watched it then!) is tottering around in that gear. I agree with you, you should see me in my proper snow gear - Michelin Man is the thing!

Borntobeamum · 29/11/2018 15:21

Ah Thank you. I'd been searching on Sky movies. Just watching C5 now!

mrselizabethdarcy · 29/11/2018 15:28

I've found my people! ! I LOVE cheesy Christmas films. The last one I watched had a Princess from some tiny county visiting New York and fell in love with a handy man who she had known for about 5 minutes 😃. Had lots of old men dressed as santa in it . Was completely and wonderfully shit.

Heuschrecke · 29/11/2018 15:31

Welcome, mrselizabethdarcy, 🎄 🎄

ParadiseLaundry · 29/11/2018 15:58

Toasted so glad it's got another fan! You might be disappointed with IAWL in comparison Grin

RightOnTheEdge · 29/11/2018 16:01

Snow my God! I've found my people! I LOVE these cheesy awful films! I don't know anyone else who watches them.

I am working my last day tomorrow at a lunchtime job I've been doing and I can't wait until next week when I've got the Xmas tree up and a couple of days off to snuggle up and watch uninterrupted Christmas crap Smile

nevermorelenore · 29/11/2018 16:32

My god. When I start up Netflix now it’s nothing but Xmas movies being recommended. I really hope nobody looks on my profile because it’s bad. Blush

Heuschrecke · 29/11/2018 16:33

And welcome to you too, RightOnTheEdge, 🎄Xmas Grin

MissionItsPossible · 29/11/2018 16:55

I saw one with Susan Boyle in the other week! She was acting (I say acting, she wasn't very good) and it was a bizarre film.

I also saw a description of a film so I thought I'd give it a go. It was like a dark comedy and I was waiting for the tragedy to hit and it wasn't until halfway through the film that I looked into it and realised the movie channel had got the description mixed up with another film of the same name that was released ten years earlier.

"A loving aunt struggles to adopt her young relatives after their parents die in a car accident."

mrselizabethdarcy · 29/11/2018 16:57

I'm just about to start watching A Christmas Kiss 🌲🌲🌲

BrieAndChilli · 29/11/2018 17:09

I watched the Christmas Getaway last night. (Normal thing - mix up, cute town in the mountains that’s all about xmas, single father, cute girl, career driven nomad woman, all fall in love (but not before the enivitable mix up where one of them overheard a conversation and doesn’t think they stand a chance so they run off) and then they all live happily ever after, throw in a dodgy car and a snow storm or two!!)

The 2 main characters were from The Last Ship in which they play 2 special forces type navy people who go on special missions and save the world every week so it was a bit weird seeing them ‘normal’!!

TheyDoItOnPurposeLynne · 29/11/2018 17:10

Ahhhh I absolutely love these films!!
Has anyone seen "Hats Off To Christmas"? Hilary Duff is a single mum who works in a Christmas hat shop (niche market but they seem to do well). Nephew of the CEO comes from the big city and thinks he knows it all but learns The Real Meaning Of Christmas from Hilary and her wheelchair bound son....with romantic consequences!

NancyDonahue · 29/11/2018 17:15

Do these gorgeous towns actually exist in the US? Or is it like their view of us? ...quaint villages, red phone boxes, tea & scones, bowler hats, we've all met the queen etc?

NancyDonahue · 29/11/2018 17:19

Yes I've seen Hats off.. once or twice Blush

Is it Haylie or Hilary?

Whichever one it is - she's in a good 'sliding doors' knock off. She has an important business meeting a plane ride away. You see her experiences as 'missed plane woman' and 'caught the plane' woman.

Loonoon · 29/11/2018 17:21

I got so caught up in the utter hokum that was North Pole 2 that I completely burnt the toffee sauce I was making for an event this evening. So now the house smells like bonfire night, the saucepan is possibly past saving and I had to make an unscheduled trip to the Co-op for more cream.

Bloody Christmas movies.
