Christmas film adoration and rant!

I love Christmas movies. They are filling my Saturdays currently (tragic).

BUT

I’m getting very hacked off with the ‘re-write history’ ones, as it inevitably seems to say that someone who chooses their career is missing out, and that a —mundane— family life is superior.

They never seem to show it the other way round. I realise that’s not Christmassy, but come on!

They have taught me a valuable lesson though. I’m still single, as I haven’t yet met Santa’s heir 😂

I'm halfway through Angels. I think I've got the twist. If I have, there's a very similar movie called A Christmas Snow which is on 10th Dec at 11.05 on True. It's one of my faves. Damn, they're ALL my faves Blush

MamaLovesMango · 30/11/2018 17:30

So... I’ve never watched one of these films. Not one. My Christmas repitoire consists of Elf, Home Alone and It’s a Wonderful Life.

Maybe I should pop my cheesy Christmas cherry this year. Where should I start?

NancyDonahue · 30/11/2018 17:42

mama Dive in! Head over to the Christmas movie channels, if you have them, and get a few set up to record. Failing that, Ch5 have loads as do Netflix.

Then get ready for festive Mills & Boon to come to life. Best watched alone without partners and dcs taking the piss.

DD will be up for it. DH will be horrified.

Can’t wait Grin

AlpacaPicnic · 30/11/2018 21:11

I wholeheartedly recommend The Christmas Card, it's very sweet and family friendly without being too cheesy!

PerverseConverse · 30/11/2018 23:33

My 3 yo ds has declared he loves Christmas films. Im so happy as now I don't have to feel bad for switching over from peppa pig and blaze and paw patrol. My dd then age 10 really started to like them last year. Dd coming up to 10 would rather watch medical emergency programs but will happily sit and watch a Christmas film with us all.
Christmas films keep me company on chilly days whilst I do jobs around the house.
I love Christmas cheeseSmile

Penny1976 · 30/11/2018 23:54

Has anyone watched The Christmas Chronicles yet on Netflix?

NancyDonahue · 01/12/2018 07:56

Penny yes we all loved it. Planning on watching it on Christmas Eve. Kurt Russell was born to play Santa. I loved Mrs Clause too Wink

TheZeppo · 01/12/2018 09:16

Currently watching Angels! Suspect the twist is in the oh-so-subtle title Grin

Watching Arthur Christmas right now. A family favourite.

Will try The Christmas Chronicles tonight. Thanks Nancy

AnneOfCleavage · 01/12/2018 11:34

Penny1976 yes we saw that last weekend on Netflix. We all enjoyed that as a family.

Saw The Christmas Switch weekend before and that was also sweet. It's got Vanessa Hudgens in it - Gabriella from High School Musical.

Unihorn · 01/12/2018 11:40

Just saw the thread title and hoped Angels on the Snow would come up as my dad and I watched it yesterday, not disappointed Grin I definitely called the twist at the start upon seeing the title. I love a shit Christmas film! Did anyone watch the Anderson's straight after? It was particularly dreadful.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 01/12/2018 12:53

I am watching A Christmas Cottage at the moment.

High flying city exec. Flying back to home for best friend’s wedding.
Gets snowed in at a cottage with brides brother.

You’ve guessed the rest already I know Grin

PrivateEggnog · 01/12/2018 12:57

Zeppo Grin

Thanks for The Christmas Chronicles tip - am watching now!! I love Kurt Russell anyway, so am enjoying this...

Heuschrecke · 01/12/2018 15:34

Did you enjoy 'Angels', Zeppo?! I've decided to re-watch it tomorrow or Monday.

As we only have Freeview, ChezHeus I've just turned on to Ch5. Christmas In Evergreen has just started! And we've got Snowed Inn Christmas next!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/12/2018 16:55

I just watched "Angels" and I guessed the twist.

The little girl though , the most squeaky nauseating cheesy voice .
Blizzard. No electricity .
"Oh, dash it , how can we bake sugar cookies" ?

There's more important things than your cookies. Like maybe staying alive and not freezing to death ........

Heuschrecke · 01/12/2018 17:42

I think I'm watching Snowed Inn Christmas now (DP got home about an hour ago and we were nattering in the kitchen for ages, so I've lost the plot with what I'm watching Xmas Blush).

Anyway, two observations - does the 'lead woman' always have the same long hair styled with a 'hot wand' type thing? And is the lead actress in this film one of the witches from Charmed?!?!

TheZeppo · 01/12/2018 17:43

I loved it 😂

The little girl is herself a Christmas movie veteran! She was in that one the other day with Charlotte (Sex in the City) and Will (Will and Grace).

All the way through I just kept hoping the teens wouldn’t kiss- it would be SO MEAN if your first kiss turned out to be a phantom!

OP posts:
TheZeppo · 01/12/2018 17:43

Not Charmed- One Tree Hill!

OP posts:
TheZeppo · 01/12/2018 17:44

Showing my age I think Blush

OP posts:
Heuschrecke · 01/12/2018 17:46

Ahhh - One Tree Hill, thanks! I remember that from about 8-9 years ago when I had mega serious insomnia and was watching OTH at about 4am lying on the sofa so I didn't keep DP awake!

TheZeppo · 01/12/2018 17:52

😂😂

That leading lady is in another of my favourite Christmas movies (about a locket).

I’m so glad I can share this obsession with you all Grin

We can keep this thread going for weeks 🎄🎄

nevermorelenore · 01/12/2018 18:54

One Tree Hill was the best. I’m gutted it’s not streaming anywhere. I used to come home from college and it’d be on E4 followed by the Gilmore Girls. Perfect combo.

I will have to watch Snowed Inn. Sounds great.

noodlenosefraggle · 01/12/2018 19:00

We've just watched the Christmas Chronicles. It's a great film! Kids were mucking around during Elf so I switched it off and put CC on. They sat still immediately and watched the whole thing Grin
