DS found suitcases on slip road.

DS 20 was on an A road slip road. There were two suitcases dumped on the carriageway. Other cars were slamming on the anchors or swerving at the last minute. It was safe for him to stop so he retrieved them and brought them home.

They're both PU leather and look to be 70s vintage. The most important thing though is he opened one and saw a bundle of fur in there, 'Oh God, it's a dead animal.'

My reaction was, 'We'll have to report it if that's the case.'

I want to give him credit because he immediately took it outside to investigate. He was calm and collected when he came back with a fox fur stole, presumably the same vintage as the luggage.

Now I want to have a go at him for clearing the carriageway. His face and his actions when he saw the fur, though, made me so proud.

If, indeed, there would have been £kkk or dumped pets in there we'd be waiting here for CID.

It was probably fly tipping. There's always a story about fly tipped baby animals around Christmas. Please don't let it happen anywhere near where you live.

Maybe it was an amateur theatre co trying to get too many props into a trailer. If so I've got your fur stole and the plastic suitcases in the garden.

bloody hell Shock that's bloody dangerous.

that would be a highway police job to secure the road and to retrieve the suitcases.

Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2018 18:26

That was a really dangerous thing to do, on a slip road.

tararabumdeay · 18/11/2018 18:29

He's a bugger like that; sticking his ore in to do the right thing.

oar sorry. Ok I know it was stupid. It was supposed to be a little light-hearted. But if I could have rescued something from the carriageway without compromising my own safety for the sake of others I would have done when I was young.

In those days we looked out for everyone. It wasn't a computer state where every moment is tracked. If the Highways Agency (used to called the police) want to analyse the footage and project their action and response I'll give 'em a fur stole and a couple of props to investigate.

It's done now.

Would it be worth posting on local FB pages in case it wasn't dumped?

tararabumdeay · 18/11/2018 18:53

Sparklingbrook

Yes, it's done now. He was silly to do it but there were other drivers freaking out.

He's got a Hi Vis for his job. For goodness sake doesn't anyone any more just take the initiative to protect others?

I've so many stories to tell. Mainly about drivers who refuse, or can't, reverse in country lanes.

It's natural to want to protect others but also it's important to not put yourself in danger whilst doing so IYKWIM.
Slip roads are where cars are accelerating and not expecting to find people in the road.

Coolaschmoola · 18/11/2018 19:03

Would you be saying the same if he was splattered all over the sliproad?

LookImAHooman · 18/11/2018 19:04

There's always a story about fly tipped baby animals around Christmas. Please don't let it happen anywhere near where you live.

I mean, I’ll try... Confused

Coolaschmoola · 18/11/2018 19:04

If the car that hit him spun out and killed the children inside it?

People don't and shouldn't take the initiative if it puts them and others in danger. It was downright stupid.

LEMtheoriginal · 18/11/2018 19:06

But he could have put other peoples lives at risk

Hezz · 18/11/2018 19:10

Please tell him never to do something so dangerous to him, and others, again.

tararabumdeay · 18/11/2018 19:20

If is not a good way to think. If...

Oh never mind. Anyone want a fox fur stole?

Look if I hear that there has been any dumped animals in your local area I will hold you personally responsible.

TooTrueToBeGood · 18/11/2018 19:51

Oh never mind. Anyone want a fox fur stole?

Possibly the owner. Hand it in to the police. You can't know if it was dumped or fell off a vehicle and regardless theft by finding would still apply.

Witchend · 18/11/2018 19:52

Well, I for one thank him for doing a kind act.

If another car wasn't paying attention and went into him, there's a much higher chance that they would have gone into the suitcases without noticing them. Now they might have just driven over them, but much more likely they would have either done a sudden last minutes swerve or stopped dead. Both of which would be much riskier for the cars around.

NerrSnerr · 18/11/2018 19:53

Has he taken them to the police? Did he call the police to say he's removed them? I imagine someone in the cars that swerved around it did the right thing called the police to say there's something on the carriageway and so the police would have had to attend to look for them.

Crunchymum · 18/11/2018 19:54

So you now have two suitcases full of fur????

I'm glad you don't have an injured or worse 20yo DS and all but I would be annoyed with him - big time!!!

WontonSoupForTheSoul · 18/11/2018 19:54

He could have killed someone. Please tell him this is not ok and to never do it again.

tararabumdeay · 18/11/2018 19:54

Oh no, all the dumped animals in my locality are my fault and my son also put everyone's life at risk.

More I think about the mystery of the fur stole I think amateur drama.

This is all very odd.

Bezalelle · 18/11/2018 20:08

Is this real?? How utterly bizarre.

KissingInTheRain · 18/11/2018 20:08

It was probably fly tipping. There's always a story about fly tipped baby animals around Christmas. Please don't let it happen anywhere near where you live.

In suitcases on a slip road? Oh yes, they come round like clockwork every Christmas. It’s hard to get on or off the A-roads round here at this time of year, what with all the suitcases full of puppies and kittens.

I once found an old seaman’s trunk full of baby ostriches on a slip road at Christmas. Terrible thing.

Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2018 20:09

Isn't it possible they flew off somebody's roof rack? They will probably be grateful to get them back.

tararabumdeay · 18/11/2018 21:44

Suitcases can't fly, nor can baby ostriches. Since quizzed son about him putting all furry animals and humans at risk. He assures me it was a lay by and not the super space highway the other side of the universe we live in.

He also checked that the sparse number of motorists in the proximity were not driving German or French cars.
