DS found suitcases on slip road.

DS 20 was on an A road slip road. There were two suitcases dumped on the carriageway. Other cars were slamming on the anchors or swerving at the last minute. It was safe for him to stop so he retrieved them and brought them home.

They're both PU leather and look to be 70s vintage. The most important thing though is he opened one and saw a bundle of fur in there, 'Oh God, it's a dead animal.'

My reaction was, 'We'll have to report it if that's the case.'

I want to give him credit because he immediately took it outside to investigate. He was calm and collected when he came back with a fox fur stole, presumably the same vintage as the luggage.

Now I want to have a go at him for clearing the carriageway. His face and his actions when he saw the fur, though, made me so proud.

If, indeed, there would have been £kkk or dumped pets in there we'd be waiting here for CID.

It was probably fly tipping. There's always a story about fly tipped baby animals around Christmas. Please don't let it happen anywhere near where you live.

Maybe it was an amateur theatre co trying to get too many props into a trailer. If so I've got your fur stole and the plastic suitcases in the garden.

He did the right thing imo. He safely removed a hazard from the road. Am well sick of "don't get involved" with all its justifications, generally from the same people who fulminate when they need help & nobody gets involved.

Terribly sorry to hear DS was horrified by a fox-fur stole Grin Mind you, I was too, the first time I saw one! I was about five and it was draped around my aunt's collar. Very weird trend, that was. I just googled & found you can still buy them!!

Report it to 101 tomorrow.

Feel like I'm in a Tom Sharp novel.

I also want to know about the ins and outs of reversing on country roads.

That could be 40 pages of fascinating description. Actually, I think it should be a topic. Along with prepping.

ILoveAutum · 19/11/2018 00:13

The tarmac is cracked.

...it’s not the only thing that’s cracked.

DerekTheWonderdog · 19/11/2018 00:20

Me and DC name all the roads here by the variety of roadkill so we have Dead Badger Hill, Roadkill Avenue, Dead Pig Lane etc etc

The dead pig isn't a dead big it's a plastic sack that my DD kept insisted was a dead pig, it took 3 weeks of slowing down to stare out of the window, to work out it was a plastic sack, the corners were the sticky up ears .....

I thought that was relevant to the animals/roads/country lane topic and that I should share it.

I think 'driving and reversing on cunty roads' should be a topic. It would probably be a big hit. Lots of diagrams obviously.

nakedscientist · 19/11/2018 00:23

But what did the fox fur steal?

Was it the plus sized avian reflective vest?

Do the eggs count as baby animals or must they be hatched first,

when they're found by the son, left in the road, lying in the box, with not quite a fox, all down by the jingle jangle laaaayyyy bye?

KissingInTheRain · 19/11/2018 00:39

But what did the fox fur steal?

It stole the imitation leather ‘70s suitcases of course. Who wouldn’t?

The fox wanted to look like a holiday-maker going BOAC to Benidorm. It’s a strong vibe.

How the fox ended up dead inside the case, like that spy bloke, is a mystery. Shady goings-on indeed.

gluteustothemaximus · 19/11/2018 00:52

The Russians are at it again.

TheDogAteMySock · 19/11/2018 00:53

Perhaps the fox didn't have a passport and it was trying to smuggle itself out of the country, inside a suitcase?

nakedscientist · 19/11/2018 00:53

Ah did the Emu go PanAm but the Ostrich decided to go Ryan air and found it was cheaper to pop her fox friend in her suitcase ......with tragic consequences?

1forAll74 · 19/11/2018 01:03

I was wondering if the fox fur stole could be mine. My late Grandmother gave me a beautiful reddish ginger one, with a pointy end, as in nose end, Now if it smells of Yardleys lavender, I lost it somewhere in Cheshire in about 1969.. I am always wondering what became of it, as it was very glamorous to wear in those days.

Good thinking! After all, when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

I think we’re on the cusp of cracking this one. The Adventure of the Slip Road Luggage and the Sturdy Son was a three pipe problem and no mistake.

Does anyone know why there are so many shoes at the side of roads? Sometimes new looking shoes in pairs neatly at the side of a country lane, sometimes single shoes. It's always seemed creepy and forlorn...

Miscible · 19/11/2018 09:05

Why did your DS bring the cases back rather than just shunting them out of the way to the side of the road?

NoLeslie · 19/11/2018 09:09

Get your DS to join the specials. He clearly likes to be helpful and he will have a great experience.

frasersmummy · 19/11/2018 09:12

Putting aside the danger of getting out the car to retrieve..

Have you heard of a little thing called terrorism. Report anything suspicious to police. Don't pick it up and take it home in your boot.what if it had been explosives ??

happinessischocolate · 19/11/2018 09:32

So the cases were on the main motorway (or dual carriageway?) and not the slip road? It's kind of crazy to be fetching stuff from a road where it's not unusual for maniacs to driver at up to 100mph.

It's an A ROAD

An A road is not a motorway they are M roads. An A road will either be single or dual carriageway with a speed limit of 40/50/60 mph.

NerrSnerr · 19/11/2018 09:43

@happinessischocolate National speed limit for a dual carriageway A road is 70mph.

Racecardriver · 19/11/2018 09:50

He could have caused an accident or ended up dead. A high vis isn’t sufficient in that instance. You should have given him a real bollocking instead of being proud of him to rescuing a couple of suitcases.

KissingInTheRain · 19/11/2018 10:26

Does anyone know why there are so many shoes at the side of roads?

They’re all that’s left of the well-intentioned folk who dash onto roads at Christmas time to save the baby animals that have been flung out of cars in suitcases (sometimes trunks, grips, valises or handy overnight bags).

nakedscientist · 19/11/2018 10:38

Don't forget kissing that these so called shoes provide essential nesting spaces for the baby animals so callously disregarded at Yuletide ( of all times) and brave shoe activists place them strategically in baby animal discard black spots to provide emergency shelter.

TheDogAteMySock · 19/11/2018 10:41

I just hope the shoe activists are wearing high viz jackets, 'cos as we all know, you are invincible whilst wearing one.

blueskiesandforests · 19/11/2018 10:44

Ah!

It all becomes clear!

Houses for mouses!

As in The Smartest Giant in Town - I should have known! 🐁

I hope that's right and not the dead 20 year olds Sad
