I’ve just been listening to Disturbeds version of Sound of Silence and I have to say I honestly love it more than the original, it nearly brought me to tears this evening and I find it so emotional, however I can’t really think of any other songs where the cover is better than the original, so is there any songs you love more than the original version?

Eloise by the Damned

I love Jennifer Warnes’ version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘First we take Manhattan’, featuring Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar.

Muse’s version of ‘Feeling good’ also gets my vote.

I prefer Too Close by Blue to the original version by Next.

I adore both versions of Only Love Can Break Your Heart, but the cover by St Etienne wins it for me

SlightDark · 13/11/2018 18:58

I much prefer the George Michael and Mary J version of ‘As’ by Stevie Wonder Blush

Arley · 13/11/2018 19:02

The fall

I second Alien Ant Farm's version of Smooth Criminal.

I also have a soft spot for Pendulum's version of Voodoo People.

If you ever by East 17 and Gabrielle is better than the original imo.

OrcinusOrca · 13/11/2018 19:08

Eva Cassidy's Time After Time

Potato2242 · 13/11/2018 19:08

Don't prefer but love equally to Kate Bush; placebo's cover of running up that hill, it is amazing!

PolaDeVeboise · 13/11/2018 19:09

Agree with Eloise by The Damned - one of my all time favourite songs. Not better, but equally as good - George Michael's cover of 'Somebody to Love'.

Whisky2014 · 13/11/2018 19:11

Metallica version of whisky in the jar...much better than the Dubliners and thin Lizzy.

I agree about disturbed's version of sound of silence too!

Whisky2014 · 13/11/2018 19:12

Lemars version of "the letter"

SassitudeandSparkle · 13/11/2018 19:16

Tainted Love by soft cell is so much better than the one by Gloria Jones

Was just coming on to say Tainted Love, one of my all time faves by Soft Cell inlaw

WhereHaveTheyGone12 · 13/11/2018 19:17

Yes potato2242 Placebo’s running up that hill is one of my all time favourite songs.

I like the Kate Bush version but the Placebo one gives me goosebumps.

mypoosmellsofroses · 13/11/2018 19:19

Scissor Sisters Comfortably Numb. Could never say that IRL as DH would never speak to me again :)

RolandDeschainsGilly · 13/11/2018 19:20

Theory of a Deadman - Wicked Game

Fred Durst - Behind Blue Eyes

RolandDeschainsGilly · 13/11/2018 19:21

This is really embarrassing but Matt Cardle from X Factor, years ago, did some really good covers when he was on the show and I still listen to them Blush

ALongHardWinter · 13/11/2018 19:22

I love 'Walk on by' by The Sranglers. Not so keen on the original by Dionne Warwick. Also 'Rosalie',I like Bob Seger's original, but Thin Lizzy's version is even better.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 13/11/2018 19:23

Ooh yes the Janis version of me n Bobby McGee. Even Kris Kristofferson said it was better. Although his is nice and growly.

OrcinusOrca · 13/11/2018 19:24

Haha I know someone who met Matt Cardle today @RolandDeschainsGilly

I agree he was good, his version of First Time is fab.

ALongHardWinter · 13/11/2018 19:24

Oh yes,I second the above poster's vote for Tainted Love by Soft Cell! Much better (IMO) than Gloria Jones's original.

PajamasnoDramas · 13/11/2018 19:25

The Fall - Ghost in my house (originally R Dean Taylor)
Nirvana - Man who sold the world (Bowie)
Talking Heads - Take me to the river (rev Al Green)

Those are mine - two are in my all time top 10!
