Any bands you wish you'd seen in their heyday?

For me it's Queen & Michael Jackson. Listening to Queen a lot before I see Bohemian Rhapsody & they are just so good!

We had tickets to see Michael Jackson just before he died, I was gutted I'll never see him live.

Any others?

I missed seeing Motörhead years ago. Still annoyed about it.

Had tickets for the Rolling Stones concert that was cancelled due to Keith Richards hurting a finger. And due to the tickets being a freebie I didn't get replacements.

Saw Queen in 1980 the day after John Lennon was murdered. Freddie played Imagine as a piano solo. Not a dry eye on the house 😢

Love Freddie 😢😢

What a memory to have HemlockStarglimmer

appleoftheluck · 09/11/2018 20:30

The Smiths and U2 in the early 80s.

SilverySurfer · 09/11/2018 20:32

HemlockStarglimmer I briefly worked for Bronze Records, Motorhead's then record company years ago. They were really manky. I remember on one tour they all decided to not wash or bathe for the duration of the tour. The poor staff who toured with them said the stink was indescribable but it didn't stop the groupies throwing themselves at the band members, ugh.

SharkSave · 09/11/2018 20:39

Buddy Holly
Frankie Valli

I've seen the stones twice now, about 12 years ago and 5 years ago, they were phenomenal. Mick Jagger was still full of energy and charisma

MissLadyM · 09/11/2018 20:54

The Doors, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who (back in the day), Billie Holiday, The Sex Pistols and a night at Studio 54!

Figgygal · 09/11/2018 20:58

Queen
But then I was 10 when Freddie died
I saw them with Adam lambert a few years ago and was mesmerised but queen is absolutely it for me

LivingDeadGirlUK · 09/11/2018 20:58

I was a teen during the nu metal era so was a bit too young to see Pantera, White Zombie, or Slayer. I also would have liked to see Prodigy annd gone to a proper 90's rave!

DeadButDelicious · 09/11/2018 21:02

Queen.
David Bowie.
White Zombie.

Just reading that made me emotional, what an amazing but tragic memory

heymammy · 09/11/2018 21:12

My biggies are Wham, Queen, Elvis and REM. I'm secretly hoping rem do some sort of swansong soon!

Looking back, I'd love to have seen early 90s Madonna and The Doors - their gigs in America were fucking mental! Jim Morrison was always getting arrested!

I remember pleading with my mum to let me go to Live Aid but I was just too young (like 11 or something!)

Gimmeesugar · 09/11/2018 21:35

@bearsofair having seen Blur in the 90’s and 2012 they were better the latter!

Nirvana, that hurts....
Soundgarden - missed the recent tour due to pregnancy, now the opportunity is gone
Faith No More - still going obviously but I keep missing them!!
Flying Burrito Brothers

And not bands but I’d also love love love to see some of the original blues singers. In a New York club. On a rainy night. In the 50’s....

Camsie30 · 09/11/2018 21:37

I would have loved to have seen Madonna's Blonde Ambition Tour.

Oh and The Kids From Fame when they did that London concert

MiniMum97 · 09/11/2018 21:53

The Smiths.

gilmoregal · 09/11/2018 21:56

My Dad saw nirvana at Reading twice and loves to go on about it, I think I'm sadder to have never seen Alice in Chains though.

The Smiths are the other band that come immediately to mind.

BishopBrennansArse · 09/11/2018 22:00

I saw REM in the 90s, Michael Stile was off his tits on something and could barely speak.

Saw them again in 2005 just after 7/7 and they were amazing. Then again at Twickenham in 2008, again amazing.

I'd so go again if they reunited

DGRossetti · 09/11/2018 22:15

3rd row, Hammersmith '83 Smile

Eatmycheese · 09/11/2018 22:47

@GoldenBuns I was there. It was Reading 1992
My best friend and I tied ourselves to each other with bin bags and ventured forth into the mosh pit.

They were fucking brilliant.
I intend to wheel this out to my children's friends when they are old enough to appreciate

Sorry 🙈

Eatmycheese · 09/11/2018 22:50

@gilmoregal your choices are excellent I totally agree. My regret is the same.
Alice with Layne Staley would have been a treat, and well the Smiths. The soundtrack to my sixth form.

QueenofallIsee · 09/11/2018 23:04

Christ yeah, The Smiths - I have seen Morrisey but I would have loved to see him with The Smiths, I was just slightly too young. Saw Nirvana in 1992, as all of us the gig was shite but I am glad I can say I did! Would have loved to see Paul Simon, missed his this year and he is not touring anymore. I’d like to have seen him play Graceland once!

GoldenBuns · 09/11/2018 23:49

Eatmycheese - bah.

I might just change my anecdote to 'I was at Reading the year Nirvana played but I was a donut and missed them.

GoldenBuns · 09/11/2018 23:53

Having said that - I did see Jeff Buckley at Glastonbury and he was AWESOME. Also Solomon Burke supporting Van Morrison at The Albert Hall. Grin

blueangel1 · 09/11/2018 23:56

Whoever mentioned Meatloaf, that's a good shout. I think he us pretty disabled these days Sad

SolveigSleeps · 09/11/2018 23:58

Placebo

gilmoregal · 10/11/2018 04:27

@Eatmycheese it's sounds like you're going to be able to be the super cool parent when your children are older. My Dad would tell my friends and they thought he was amazing.

Definitely Alive with Layne. Their unplugged is my favourite his voice was insanely good.
