Any bands you wish you'd seen in their heyday?

For me it's Queen & Michael Jackson. Listening to Queen a lot before I see Bohemian Rhapsody & they are just so good!

We had tickets to see Michael Jackson just before he died, I was gutted I'll never see him live.

Any others?

Nirvana definitely

Jocasta2018 · 09/11/2018 14:12

I agree with the not-so-great Nirvana headline performance at Reading in 1992. I was standing somewhere in the middle and people were leaving in their droves during their set instead of pushing towards the stage... Fair enough, the weather was atrocious but if the band had been any good, I’m sure more people would’ve put up with the rain! Such a disappointment. I’d been there the whole weekend but some friends travelled down from the north of England and felt they’d wasted their money.

I would love to see Madonna and Dolly Parton and regret not seeing Prince.

GoldenBuns · 09/11/2018 14:38

Jocasta I think I may have been at the '92 Reading - the pouring rain sounds familiar! If I remember rightly, the best thing about that day was the Bjorn Again performance - it got a really miserable, wet crowd singing along. Grin

TheVonTrappFamilySwingers · 09/11/2018 14:47

Ah yes it was '92. I remember Kurt going on and on about Courtney Love thinking everyone hated her and making the crowd shout our 'we love you Courtney'. It wasn't fabulous. Bjorn Again were great though!

ThedeadlineisFriday

I've already checked! The tour is finished now unfortunately (particularly annoyed as they were in my city) but DH has been briefed to keep his eye out for a tour next year.

Nirvana. Just discovered them after they visited my hometown

Athena51 · 09/11/2018 14:57

I've been lucky enough to see loads of great bands but I wish I could go back in time and The Doors live. They've been one of my favourite bands since I was a teenager and I'm 51 now.

I saw Bowie on his last tour in 2003 and it was incredible, I took my then 9 year old DS who was (and still is) a big fan, it was his first gig Smile

4forkssake · 09/11/2018 15:02

The Rat Pack & Bob Marley

Vintagevixen · 09/11/2018 15:04

Saw Queen at Wembley when I was a teen, they were amazing!

happychange · 09/11/2018 15:05

Nirvana

EddieCatflap · 09/11/2018 15:05

The Jam & Elvis

PawneeParksDept · 09/11/2018 15:07

Queen definitely BUT at 14 or so I was very into the Britpop scene but it was pre internet and had no real clue about getting tickets or whether gigs were safe, probably wouldn't have been allowed to go unless a big well known venue which these gigs never were.

Pretty much every 90s Britpop band I loved I'd like to see. I was just slightly too young for the trend, sadly.

Vintagevixen · 09/11/2018 15:07

Twoheaped you are right! INXS supported them at Wembley I think, it's all coming back now, so I saw them too. I was only 16, so it was a long time ago, my memory ain't all that these days!

PawneeParksDept · 09/11/2018 15:09

I'm another who had been burnt by an absolutely shit Bob Dylan concert, would have loved to have seen him in his prime.

TanteRose · 09/11/2018 15:11

Would have loved to have seen Prince
Also Madonna

Another vote for seeing Queen and Adam Lambert - top class (saw them in japan a few years ago)

TanteRose · 09/11/2018 15:12

Oh yes and Bob Dylan was boring this last summer at a festival - although I’m not a fan anyway

I was lucky enough to see Bjork summer before last and she was amazing!

HollowTalk · 09/11/2018 15:12

I've seen an awful Bob Dylan concert. And a terrible Van Morrison one, too!

The Who were really boring - I saw them a few times and they didn't really do it for me.

The Jam were fantastic. Queen were good. I've seen most of those listed, though not Michael Jackson - tbh I like small gigs best.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 09/11/2018 15:17

Nirvana
The Smiths
HUGE yes to Fleetwood Mac during the Rumours or Tango in the Night years.

Was also at Knebworth on the Saturday, stinkycheese & OP. I remember it being mind blowing. I saw Blur the after at the NEC and they weren’t a patch but that is probably because a stadium gig is never going to have the same atmosphere as an open air festival type gig, plus I was a much bigger Oasis fan than Blur.

DGRossetti · 09/11/2018 15:18

The Who were really boring - I saw them a few times and they didn't really do it for me

Saw Roger Daltrey solo, performing "Tommy" in it's entirety, plus a selection of Who tunes. He's one of the original frontmen, along with Freddie, Lynott, and Jagger.

RomanyRoots · 09/11/2018 15:24

All the amazing Jazz musicians around in the 40's to about end of 70's.
The Big Bands of the same era.

mejon · 09/11/2018 15:29

Like many, I'd have loved to see Queen with FM.
ABBA
The Undertones - I know they're still going but I'm sorry that I missed the original line-up.

GrouchyKiwi · 09/11/2018 15:37

Bowie
The Clash
The Cure
Pat Benatar
Elvis (although maybe not with all the screaming)
Simon & Garfunkel
The Backstreet Boys (I know they're touring again next year but their voices are past it)

Ohyesiam · 09/11/2018 15:50

I saw Queen in Hammersmith Palais when I was about 17.
It was about the time of radio gaga which I wasn’t into, but they did some earlier stuff brilliantly.
I’ll never forget the way Freddie Mercury ‘s voice soared.

PrincessWire · 09/11/2018 15:51

I've seen Manic Street Preachers as a four piece, also watched INXS with Michael Hutchence.

Mine would be the Rolling Stones in about 1970, just as they'd got massive, and AC/DC in the late 70s with Bon Scott. Also Elvis in his heyday.

BeyondVicious · 09/11/2018 16:06

I've seen four piece Manics, and also Linkin Park (twice) both were fantastic.

I would have liked to see GnR circa 1990 ish. I saw them recently since they reformed and they weren't bad, but I would have liked to see them...how to put this... before AR got fat Grin
