For me it's the month of snuggling up and resting before Christmas prep starts, but my friend finds it depressing- dark nights and damp cold- what does everyone else think of it?

Cold and miserable. Worst month of the year. Sad

Santaisgettingbusy · 05/11/2018 14:51

Was hoping it wasn't for a dc name!!

CuppaSarah · 05/11/2018 14:52

I love it. It's my birthday month ans this year my husband has his work Christmas party too. Fireworks and cold walks crunching leaves, watching the trains go by.

I love bundling up in coats and scarves before trips out.

bluetit101 · 05/11/2018 14:52

I love it! Everyone is starting to get into the Christmas spirit and there's lots to look forward to. January is the worst! I hate January. On a massive Christmas comedown, diet has started (again!) it's cold, miserable and nothing to look forward to for a good few months

SuperstarDJ · 05/11/2018 14:53

I don’t mind it. I find January or February to be the worst months of the year.

NuttierThanSquirrelShit · 05/11/2018 14:54

Love it - it is such a beautiful month with the leaves turning brown etc. October is wet and windy. December is cold and dark. November is glorious!!

crochetmonkey74 · 05/11/2018 14:55

ooh yeah- forgot the scarf gloves and hat excitement!

I don't mind January, I quite like the fresh lean of a new year- I do struggle with Feb though

clean not lean!

What is with the love of snuggling on mumsnet? What even is it? Lying on the sofa under a blanket?

Bleurgggh. I hate the sudden change to it being dark at 4.30. Plus I’m driving kids around to after school clubs etc in the
dark so I don’t have time to lie under a bloody blanket. Hateful time of year! Missing the glorious summer.

Delatron · 05/11/2018 15:23

Oh brilliant, a scarf, how exciting! I’m a actually impressed you can find pleasure in scarves and gloves! But no doesn’t really take the edge of this time of year for me..

BackforGood · 05/11/2018 15:25

Me too Grin
Having just come from the Baby Names thread, that was what I assumed from the thread title

I do genuinely really like that first day when you get all bundled up

What is with the love of snuggling on mumsnet? What even is it?

For me, it is the getting home, getting lamps and candles on, cosy winter pjs and wacthing telly or reading under a blanket, or in the corner of a sofa all cosy.

If DH suggested to me we "snuggled under a blanket" I'd probably strangle him with it.

I am not a fan of November and the first three weeks of December as it just gets darker and darker. January I don't mind as although it's often colder, the light is returning. I also hate the fact that for many people, November and December have ceased to exist completely, and have been replaced by "Christmas".

Picklypickles · 05/11/2018 15:33

Love it!! Best month of the year. I love the cold and the dark and its my birthday this week so I get cake yay!!

PinkHeart5914 · 05/11/2018 15:39

I love it the evenings get darker quicker plus it’s my birthday month!

Now January on the other hand is as depressing as hell, I think it’s becuase the excitement of Christmas is over and it’s grey, cold & miserable.

PickAChew · 05/11/2018 15:41

Yesterday - bright and fresh and perfect weather for a long walk.

Today - too bloody dark, which doesn't help me when DS2 had us awake at 4am.

sunshineandshowers21 · 05/11/2018 15:47

november is my favourite month! i love the darker nights and how it’s just starting to get cold enough to put the heating on. it’s also mine and my partner’s anniversary in november (today!) and my third baby - first girl - is also due this month.

SallyWD · 05/11/2018 15:53

I love it. It's a golden month. The colours of the light and the leaves are beautiful. There are fireworks and the anticipation of Christmas. It's dark and cosy in the evenings. You can wrap up warm and eat hearty food. It's January and February I find bleak.

EscapeToTheMoon · 05/11/2018 16:36

Cold and dark, you can still go out!

I love all months, each is different so people need to go out there ad enjoy.

I love snuggling up with my fire and candles, prepping for Christmas, drinking Baileys. Smell of fires in the air.

theboxofdelights · 05/11/2018 16:39

I love it, love the clock change and the dark nights, love coming home and closing the blinds and turning the heating up.

fussychica · 05/11/2018 16:46

Well I'm currently in Rome and the weather is awful. My jeans and trainers are currently drying on the radiators after walking back from the supermarket 3 minutes awayShock . So I'm currently not keen on November in Italy. I'm returning to Spain tomorrow and hopefully more autumn/winter sun before trekking home later this month.
We try too avoid the UK in November due to the weather and the lunacy that is the build up to Christmas. It means I'm miss my DS birthday but as he's now nearly 26 he's not that botheredGrin

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 05/11/2018 16:47

I love it! Golden light, crisp frosty mornings, cosy lamplit evenings in front of the fire, winter scented candles, steaming breath, fluffy blankets on the couch, the cats coming in smelling of smoky air me not being a sweaty wreck. This morning I wore gloves : )

EnidButton · 05/11/2018 16:49

Normally it's full of Christmas prep for me but I'm not bothering much with Christmas this year so a whole November without stress is a new thing.

At the moment I'm getting comfort food recipes together and I've hung spice scented dried fruit/pine cone strings up. Added a few tiny fairy lights here and there.

fussychica · 05/11/2018 16:50

I forgot to say, will be sorry to miss the WW1 commemoration events, especially this year. I would have loved to see the lights in the Tower of London moat and our town usually puts on a pretty good show too as it's a garrison town.
