what do you think of November?

For me it's the month of snuggling up and resting before Christmas prep starts, but my friend finds it depressing- dark nights and damp cold- what does everyone else think of it?

OP posts:
amusedbush · 05/11/2018 20:56

I love the run up to Christmas and the chilly days and dark nights are part of that. January and February are awful though - with nothing to look forward to it’s just cold, dark all the time and depressing.

EnidButton · 05/11/2018 23:18

I've been reading the witches thread

Junior Where can I find that please? It sounds interesting. Smile

toffee1000 · 06/11/2018 21:19

Nope, hate it too. I live in London so “crisp, frosty” mornings just aren’t a thing. It’s just cold, dark and rainy, there’s nothing fun about that. I hate long sleeves too (ASD sensory issues). Snow doesn’t really happen here either, the “beast from the east” was the first decent snowfall in years.

skorpion · 06/11/2018 22:03

I love it! It's my I was born in November and we got married in November as well.
Autumn is my favourite season and I really enjoy the November melancholy, always have done.
Not because of the 'snuggling', I just love the grey mist, the quiet, the unexpected glorious sun on some days. Love the produce in my local farm shop. Ideally I would spend my time baking, making preserves, making some gorgeous winter / Christmas decorations (something with pine cones or some such shizzle) with quiet and calm children, and reading by the open fire.
Far, FAR cry from the chaos that is my real life... running like a loon to fit the eleventy billion things into a short day, practicing fishwife skills shouting at the kids all the time...

ilovesooty · 07/11/2018 01:29

It sucks. It's cold, dark and depressing.
I'm with Delatron too, and all this talk of snuggling is something I find incomprehensible.

halfwitpicker · 07/11/2018 01:31

Love it.

Countdown to crimbo innit matey

SleightOfMind · 07/11/2018 01:37

I love the autumn smells and colours, getting out sweaters, boots, coats & socks and being able to eat proper food and puds every night
I like bonfire night and Halloween too. It’s lovely to have a big change of pace after all the summer picnics and wafting about in shorts.
Not so keen on the mud, freezing rain and long nights though.
All my family were born in November apart from me (January) so it’s an expensive bloody month too!

Rockbird · 07/11/2018 02:05

Absolutely love it. My favourite month. Beautiful colours, lots of leaves. I don't care if they're crisp or soggy. A chill in the air and yes, scarves and boots. Fairy lights starting to appear but not the onslaught of Christmas yet. I really feel alive at the moment.

LoniceraJaponica · 07/11/2018 10:21

Fairy lights and candles hurt my eyes. I prefer a properly well lit room otherwise I don't see very well, and feel low.

almondsareforevermore · 07/11/2018 18:33

Worst month of the year. Muddy, wet, cold, foggy, dark, dreary, depressing. And you know this is just the start of five months of winter.

Stupomax · 07/11/2018 18:37

No snow yet (I'll overlook next week's forecast).
Crisp days.
Crunchy leaves on the ground.
Thanksgiving so the kids are off school for the first time since the start of Sept.
Able to remain in denial about Christmas.

What's not to like?

Justanotheruser01 · 07/11/2018 18:41

I love the snuggles the blankets the candles etc but i hate it it's cold and wet you leave for work when its dark home when its dark people dont tend to do much either as there saving for Xmas just a generally low month to me

LoniceraJaponica · 07/11/2018 18:50

What's not to like Stupomax?
Wet soggy days - these crisp days you romanticise about are very rare
Driving to and from work in the dark on crowded roads
Having to use the tumble dryer every time I do a wash.
Spending £££ on heating
Getting cabin fever from being inside too much

maddiemookins16mum · 07/11/2018 19:05

I like the lighter mornings (I know it won’t last much longer but at least I drive TO work in daylight at present). It’s a month to endure.
December is Christmas month 😊😊
Jan is awful BUT by 14 Feb It’s getting light by 5pm yay.

Stupomax · 07/11/2018 19:39

Here in New England I'm not romanticising at all. Today is a beautiful example!

MeMeMeow85 · 07/11/2018 19:41

I like November. It’s the time to get yourself and the house all warm and cosy before Christmas. A bit of a rush before hibernation lol

BitchQueen90 · 07/11/2018 20:30

Spring and summer are my favourite seasons but I really enjoy this time of year. The run up to Christmas and all the excitement. Plus it's not that cold where I am. The temperature is still in double figures.

January and February are the worst months for me. Just never ending cold weather and nothing to look forward to until the clocks go forward again.

toffee1000 · 07/11/2018 20:30

Also Stupomax most MNers aren’t in the US, so Thanksgiving doesn’t apply.

I agree crispy mornings may occur in more rural areas, but I’m in the suburbs of London.

Although I would say that January and February are worse.

Stupomax · 07/11/2018 21:26

Yes being British and having grown up in the UK I actually know this.

Delatron · 07/11/2018 21:54

So we have:
Thanksgiving (?)
Snuggling under a blanket
Scarves and gloves.

Nope, not sold it to me!

MaruMaru · 07/11/2018 22:14

So far so good.

EnidButton · 07/11/2018 23:16

Is there an Autumn/Early Winter appreciation thread for those of us who love it? 🍂🍁

ilovesooty · 07/11/2018 23:20

Don't forget cosy Delatron

beachygirl · 07/11/2018 23:31

I am down south and so far it has been lovely and mild and sunny. I am still in flip-flops most days but can now wear some of my new jumpers and scarves. Love Nov 5 and Halloween parties and the fab sunsets we have had. Hoping it holds out a bit longer.

TheWiseWomansFear · 07/11/2018 23:33

I like it, winter is finally here, it's still not freezing and Bonfire night!
