A few of you may have had a DH/DP since then. Wink

Not me, quite. But it struck me last night that my favourite fluffy Christy bath towel is now 20 yrs old.

So is a watch I wear every day that my parents bought me.

A couple of baking trays too.

They've stood the test of time.

Can you tell me what I need to add to my indestructible domestic list?

Many thanks.

Babyliss hair crimpers that we’re my mothers on the 80s

ChiaraRimini · 05/11/2018 13:07

I have a Zanussi washing machine bought as a wedding present 20 years ago, which outlived the marriage. Has survived 3 kids and 4-5 loads of washing a week!

DelurkingAJ · 05/11/2018 13:18

To my despair I still have about 10 of the ‘Kitchen Reject’ wine glasses I bought for uni 20 years ago (I think for £5). They’re tiny and I had honestly expected to break all 12 in the four years but no they march on and on.

hole punch - had since around 11 so 39yrs old same for some caran d'ache watercolour pencils which are alot shorter these days but still going. Mini bambi stapler although I have two as it went awol for a couple of years. I also have a fountain pen from leaving my first job which is around 30 yrs old.

My sewing machine is around 26yrs old. I often buy second hand and have an old Kenwood from the 70's too although I have only had it around 6 yrs.

Loads

I still have knickers in use that are more than 20 years old.

BeyondVicious · 05/11/2018 13:34

My fridge is about 15 years old. I keep expecting it to die (and I really want a new one!) but it just doesn't. It's one of the Beko ones that had a fault and was catching on fire, an engineer came and fixed the fault about five years ago and it's still going strong

nyu82 · 05/11/2018 14:54

I use my Dads old alarm clock that he bought in 1956...it is brilliant. And the electric carving knife , Kenwood mixer and loads of stuff I had before I was married , 33 years ago !!!

Seniorschoolmum · 05/11/2018 14:57

An Escada evening dress bought in 1996. It’s lovely and it still fits. Smile

VanillaSugary · 05/11/2018 14:57

A cast iron frying pan which was my great great grandmother's. I use it every week!

CleanHonestGoals · 05/11/2018 15:03

My tumble drier..the catch has gone a little on the door so there is a knack to shutting it but still works great. There has been talk of buying a new one but I don't really see the point

CleanHonestGoals · 05/11/2018 15:04

Forgot to add that it's 20 years old..bought when DD was just born...she's now at uni and 20 Grin

secretsciurusvulgaris · 05/11/2018 15:10

Sony midi system and speakers - we use it for surround sound and it is amazing. 29 years old and still going strong.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 05/11/2018 15:10

I still use my primary school swimming towel for swimming. It still has my name sewn on Grin

papayasareyum · 05/11/2018 15:12

my kenwood food processor and that’s about it!

hippipotamiwantstoloseapound · 05/11/2018 15:19

Sony Cube - around 25 years.
Dualit toaster - coming up for 20 years
Braun food processor - managed nearly 40 years before giving up the ghost earlier this year.
Various oven dishes and biscuit tins etc which I was given by my mum when she downsized.

Lewknor · 05/11/2018 15:20

a hair dryer I had when I was 17

scaryteacher · 05/11/2018 15:40

My Le Creuset, bought in 92. My clock radio bought when I was 11, I am 53 next birthday!

The ARCAM CD player, tuner and amp, all bought late 80s early 90s. Dh's turntable, bought when he was 17, he is 58 next birthday.

The Kenwood Chef was a wedding present in 1986, as were several of my M&S bath sheets and they are still going. I have bed linen from 1986 as well.

Table mats from the 1970s, cutlery from the 60s, wedding present cutlery and china from the 80s. My gran's pyrex and wooden spoons from god knows when, and dh's grans mixing bowl (and she died when he was a teenager). I have some of their china as well, and china from my gran which my Mum can remember growing up with, so from the 40s.

My first microwave died in 2011 (that was a wedding present too), and the current one has been going since then.

cjt110 · 05/11/2018 15:45

OK so not 20 years old... maybe about 18 but my ladyshave.

RagingWhoreBag · 05/11/2018 15:57

Dualit toaster. I’d gone through about 4 by this point and thought fuck it, instead of spending £20 every couple of months on cheap ones that blow, I’ll fork out £180 on a Dualit (friends had one and is always thought it very extravagant!)

It’s had a new timer fitted last year but in 20 years that’s the only thing that’s gone wrong, and luckily I had it fixed for free as XH knew someone useful!

RagingWhoreBag · 05/11/2018 15:59

Also had XMIL’s wedding gift bread board up until last year sometime (when I presume XH took it with him!). That was from the 1904s, so has probably seen more than it’s fair share of bread over the past 70+ years!!

RagingWhoreBag · 05/11/2018 15:59

1940s!

Buddywoo · 05/11/2018 16:03

Many things, but I have some next black suede slingbacks that I bought in the early 80's when the Next shop first opened in Leeds. The shoes have been worn a lot and are as good as new. When Next first opened it was upmarket and quite expensive.

notacooldad · 05/11/2018 16:10

Nearly everything!!
I still wear the suit that I had for my wedding 22 years ago.
There's something to be said for buying a classic cut in a neutral colour!!

thepurpleline · 05/11/2018 16:55

I've still got some socks that my mum bought me during the bad winter of 1962. They are still going strong.

BikeRunSki · 05/11/2018 16:55

Flat black patent ballet pumps - but sturdier then anything you’d get now - bought for my 6th form Christmas ball in 1988, from s little boutique on the Kings Road. They weren’t that well known, they were called Hobbs!!
