A few of you may have had a DH/DP since then. Wink

Not me, quite. But it struck me last night that my favourite fluffy Christy bath towel is now 20 yrs old.

So is a watch I wear every day that my parents bought me.

A couple of baking trays too.

They've stood the test of time.

Can you tell me what I need to add to my indestructible domestic list?

Many thanks.

When Next first opened it was upmarket and quite expensive. Yes, I remember looking at the Directory when it first came out and and not feeling able to afford anything!

LaDaronne · 05/11/2018 17:24

A belemnite fossil that I use as a doorstop. 160 million years and counting Grin

LookMoreCloselier · 05/11/2018 17:34

I have my great grandmothers meat roasting dish which must be over 100 years old, it looks it TBF, I love it and I use it often.

BikeRunSki · 05/11/2018 18:18

Ah yes, the Next directory used to have fabric swatches in. It was reet posh.

EggysMom · 05/11/2018 18:20

I still have my calculator that I used for my O-levels back in 1984. I don't think I've ever replaced the batteries ...

TeenTimesTwo · 05/11/2018 18:34

I still have my calculator that I used for my O-levels back in 1984.

Oh yes, forgot that one. I think my calculator comes from 1979, I certainly had it for my O levels in 1982. I still use it, though think I should get one the same as DD2's.

Hand held Donkey Kong game - 35 years?
M&S dressing gown - about 28 years.
Had a telly once that wouldn't die. We were the 3rd house to have it then passed it onto friends. Big old box on wheels. Probably still going somewhere!

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 05/11/2018 18:45

I still have an Kookai ankle length black cardigan I got when I was 14 from Freemans catalogue. Its still in fab condition and I get loads of compliments when I wear it. Its 26 years old.

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 05/11/2018 18:47

Also my auntie still has and wears a Swatch watch she was given in 1985.

BlackType · 05/11/2018 18:48

Sony radio cassette recorder - 30 yrs old (have long since binned all my cassettes, sadly, but the radio works fine. I used the cassette player bit for DD's 4th b'day party 10 years ago!)

Kenwood soup blending machine - about 40 yrs old.

Duvet cover which DS now has, dating from when I was his age (16). 32 years ago.

Pink Blanket, which DSis and I used to be given when we were sick. Must be in its late 40s now.

ForalltheSaints · 05/11/2018 18:49

Loads of wedding presents.
Dualit toaster

I have loads of stuff which I inherited from my grandparents house 30 years ago. Towels, tablecloths, napkins, saucepans, blankets.....

ChodeofChodeHall · 05/11/2018 19:48

I have a pair of yellow pyjama bottoms that I bought in Primark in 2001. A bit tired-looking but still no holes. They were £3.99 for the set (lost the top half years ago).

Owlwantstoshare · 05/11/2018 19:50

Kenwood electric hand whisk. Got it for a wedding present 35 years ago and it’s still going strong.

Just jettisoned my late DFs ironing board. Must have been at least 30 years old too.

Pyrex bowls, also wedding present.

IAmNotLikeThem · 05/11/2018 20:06

I bought one of these a week ago last Tuesday and I have not broken it yet. Grin

My slow cooker. Bought in 1981, I think. It cooks at a lower temperature than modern makes, so can quite safely be left on all night and well into the next day without overcooking the stew.

My potato peeler is decades old. Used to belong to my MIL. She was left-handed and so am I. It was only when my children were old enough to peel veg that I realised it was a left-handed one (they're both right-handed). I'd be gutted if it ever got lost or broke.

I have a Burberry raincoat I bought in a sale in 1990 before they went chavtastic. The belt buckle looks a touch worn but other than that it's fine.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 05/11/2018 20:18

Actually, we have a huge amount of old stuff. We don't usually get rid of things until they've worn out. Very depressing to think of decent stuff being binned just because it's not the latest model. Built in obsolescence is also really bad for the environment. None of our washing machines or dishwashers have lasted much more than five years. They could probably be fixed but the cost would be almost as much as getting a new one so it doesn't make sense. Ridiculous.

Lweji · 05/11/2018 20:29

A rucksack that I bought at Uni. More than 20 years, nearing 30, actually. Shock

Lweji · 05/11/2018 20:31

I also have my grandmother's sowing machine. I'm guessing 80 years old or so.
I haven't checked if it works, though.

MsRinky · 05/11/2018 20:31

My camper van is 51 and going strong.

elastamum · 05/11/2018 20:34

Dp still has his I ran the world t-shirt from 1986. He wears it every year at festivals

AdoreTheBeach · 05/11/2018 20:39

More than 20 years as I’m married 27 years. As I had no wedding presents nor any bridal shower (moved to UK to marry my husband, pre internet shopping etc), MIL have me get handheld mixer and electric knife. I don’t know how long she had them as she gave them to me from her kitchen cupboard. Both still going strong.

Until this past summer, I still had the first fridge/freezer we bought for our first house so it was about 25 years old. It still worked but we no longer had room for a second fridge freezer (we had it in our laundry room). Bought from London Electricity in Surrey Quays Shopping mall - don’t know if either are still around.
