A few of you may have had a DH/DP since then. Wink

Not me, quite. But it struck me last night that my favourite fluffy Christy bath towel is now 20 yrs old.

So is a watch I wear every day that my parents bought me.

A couple of baking trays too.

They've stood the test of time.

Can you tell me what I need to add to my indestructible domestic list?

Many thanks.

This is a great thread, we live in such a throwaway society, it's good to know that not everyone bins stuff and buys new every couple of years!

My fridge belonged to my mum, as did my cooker and both must at least 15 years old. Various bits of furniture between 30 and maybe 100 years old. Towels - it's really noticeable how the quality is much poorer now. I have some M&S duvet covers, which are about 40 years old. I don't really use them as they are v dated, but they are still in great nick.

Not 20 years old, but I find that clothes that I bought 6-10 years ago are much better quality that their current equivalents.

I still have a new look long black skirt that fits since 1995
It’s a 10 and I’m a 16 yet it still fits!
It’s like the sisterhood of the travelling pants in skirt form!!!

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 04/11/2018 23:04

I also have a bottle of Chanel rouge Noir nail polish that I have owned since 97! It’s still going strong x

PrincessButtockUp · 04/11/2018 23:11

My hairdryer from 1991.
The Denby crockery my parents bought in the 80s and we still use every day.
Ikea (and other) glasses from when I bought my first home in 1998.
I could probably find clothes I've had that long, and handbags.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 04/11/2018 23:13

The majority of my furniture is 25 or more years old, some of it is looking a bit tired but most of it has many more years left in it. Most of the contents of my kitchen, utensils, pans, cutlery is similar in age. Also my jewellery, paintings and even some named socks that I took when I started boarding school 33 years ago (they are now very thin but beautifully soft!)

I've got utility blankets that belonged to my parents in the 1940s, and a table &, chair set that my grandparents bought in 1923.
DH still works too, and I acquired him in 1996.Grin

chewybacca · 04/11/2018 23:16

I have a blanket that came from mum's house. Its a fleecy zebra pattern, from when we lived in S.A. left when I was 12. Now 45.
It is argued over by my children, I sit with it on my legs every night. It's nibbled by my student days gerbils but still the most comforting thing I have.

And a nutcracker from Grandma.

LostInTheColonies · 04/11/2018 23:22

Another one with a Kenwood Chef - it's at least 40 yrs old. DM has one that was a wedding present & they've just celebrated their golden anniversary.

Yambabe · 04/11/2018 23:33

A jug blender that I bought when DS was a few months old to puree his dinners in. Because feeding babies pureed dinner was what we did back in early 1986!

Time40 · 04/11/2018 23:35

I think I've got more stuff that's over 20 than is under 20. Even the car turned 20 this year.

butterfly56 · 05/11/2018 00:30

I have a Zepla Fake Fur headband that has been used every winter since 1993 and some one always asks me every year... is it new?! It's been washed probably 40 times!!

I have 2 enamel roasting tins and a bread knife(from the 1950's) that my grandma gave me in the early 70's.

butterfly56 · 05/11/2018 00:37

My hairdryer is 21years old!
My iron and ironing board are like new and are nearly 20years old...not a fan of ironing but they have been know to come out of the closet on special occasions!

animaginativeusername · 05/11/2018 00:45

Ironing board, was in the house when we moved in 11 years ago. And I think had had for at least 20 years. A cd/cassette/radio deck I bought 23 years ago, still works fine

animaginativeusername · 05/11/2018 00:46

*previous owner

MontyPants · 05/11/2018 01:01

I’ve got a set of brown Pyrex dishes with matching lids that I got from my late grandmother’s house. They must be well over 20 years old. I smashed one recently and cried. Mason cash mixing bowl, which has even survived my cooking.

Plus my GHD straighteners must be at least 15 years old now, and that’s ancient for electricals.

penisbeakers · 05/11/2018 01:06

My grandmother gave me a food mixer that's older than me and works perfectly - I'm forty-one.

Bouledeneige · 05/11/2018 01:09

I bought a mulberry overnight bag in a sale 25 years ago and its still looks and functions great. I also have all my pots and pans and roasting tins from when I got married 25 years ago, and cutlery, pyrex and casseroles of the same vintage.

SophieGiroux · 05/11/2018 01:30

Clairol Benders

Victoria Plum duvet set that my DD is now using is over 30 years old

SophieGiroux · 05/11/2018 01:32

Ronald McDonald felt tips I got at my 10th birthday party at McDonald's. Still working fine!

Armchairanarchist · 05/11/2018 01:41

Full set of wooden handled le creuset pans that I still love. They'll probably last until I can no longer lift them too.

llangennith · 05/11/2018 01:43

LG washing machine. It'll probably die now.

citiesofbismuth · 05/11/2018 01:51

I have a Paleolithic hand axe which I suppose would still work if I tried chopping some meat with it 😂

Strokethefurrywall · 05/11/2018 02:30

My denim mini skirt from Top Shop that I bought in Portsmouth when I was 21.
I'm 39 now and it still fits!

Bastardingcough · 05/11/2018 02:44

I've been eyeing up my mum's Krups kitchen scales recently. They've been used at least twice a week since 1971. So many childhood memories tied to them!

What do you own that works since 20 yrs ago??
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/11/2018 06:53

I have a stainless steel 'on the hob' kettle which is still going strong 21 years down the line.

Several towels that are as old, one a beach one which has just this year got a small threadbare patch.

Mugs without so much as a chip...
