Anyone else dread the clocks going back

I hate the long dark nights
Go in to work in the dark
Come home in the dark
I find myself getting quite anxious and low as the weeks go on
Try and embrace the cosy element but I miss daylight
I am the grinch I know Grin

No I love it. I suffer with anxiety and it makes me feel wrapped up and safe.

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 27/10/2018 11:14

No, I've been looking forward to it for the last fortnight. Lighter mornings are more important to me than lighter evenings. I personally wish we could stay on GMT all year.

Meet0nTheIedge · 27/10/2018 11:16

I wouldn't say dreading it, but I prefer light evenings, I'm out and about a lot then and it's nicer when light.

GoodbyeSummer · 27/10/2018 11:18

I like the lighter mornings. I hope they don't keep us on bst forever because that's only seems to benefit those living in the south. It's wouldn't get light until after 8 here if they did.

flapjackfairy · 27/10/2018 11:20

Oh I love it. This is my most favourite time of year. I love putting all the lights and candles on and getting all cosy
In fact I am doing that now and watching the snow flurrying. Heaven as far as I am concerned x

TSSDNCOP · 27/10/2018 11:22

The upside is that sudden realisation in about March that it’s so much lighter in the evening. I still marvel in June when it’s light at 10pm. 50 summers and it’s never got old.

Yoksha · 27/10/2018 11:24

Only from the fact that it fooks up my pets internal clocks, and they herd me earlier to feed them. They can't read a clock, so they demand!!!!!! feeding an hour earlier.

Thebluedog · 27/10/2018 11:26

I consider myself to be a reasonably intelligent person but it always confuses the hell out of me

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 27/10/2018 11:28

Yoksha, yes that is a downside. I've come down to a 'gift' from the dog by the back door once or twice for the same reason.

IAmRubbishAtDIY · 27/10/2018 11:29

Isuffer with anxiety and it makes me feel wrapped up and safe.

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

You have just verbalised all my feelings perfectly!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 27/10/2018 11:30

Oh excellent Grin

CakeNinja · 27/10/2018 11:31

I love it. I like all the seasons, particularly when the clocks change. I’m a real home bird and love nothing more than getting home and watching the night draw in.
Helps that I don’t have to leave the house in the morning or come home in the dark, I think I’d have a different opinion then.

Nquartz · 27/10/2018 11:31

It doesn't really bother me but it messes up DD's sleep for a few days which is a pain

ForalltheSaints · 27/10/2018 11:51

If I ran the country it would be the first thing I would change for England, and let Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland make their own decision. For three or four years when I was at primary school, the clocks did not go back, but people in Scotland and farmers were very much against it.

Fewer people start early shifts than say 40 years ago, more work in the evenings, and road crashes/injuries are at their highest in November, apparently. We are also more aware of seasonal affective disorder and mental health than we used to be. There would be energy savings as typically more buildings and rooms are in use between 4 and 5 in the afternoon than 7 to 8 in the morning.

Morocco has become the latest country to see sense, I understand.

ChodeofChodeHall · 27/10/2018 11:55

I absolutely love it because it means that Summer is a distant memory. I adore the cold and dark!

GhoulishGremlins · 27/10/2018 11:58

I love winter.

You can always warm up but in summer there's only so much you can do to cool down..

longwayoff · 27/10/2018 12:02

ENVY flapjack. Enjoy

Dychmygol · 27/10/2018 12:03

I wish we could stay on GMT permanently. Love the clocks going back, the time just feels 'right'. More light in the mornings and darker evenings. Bliss!

fluffycatinahat · 27/10/2018 12:16

I hate the clocks going back. Makes me feel trapped in the evenings.

UtterlyDesperate · 27/10/2018 12:18

I hate it. It feels permanently dark and I find it very lowering even with a SAD light. You're not alone, op!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 27/10/2018 12:19

I’m with you OP. I hate it.
I hate scraping the car in the morning.
I hate the cold and having to wear layers of clothes
I hate, hate, hate dark evenings

I must suffer from SAD I think.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 27/10/2018 12:20

I hate it too. It makes it far harder to walk the dog in the evenings after work as the light just isn't there, and there are associated personal safety issues.

I love the long summer evenings when we can be out walking 6-10pm without freezing to death.

youarenotkiddingme · 27/10/2018 12:20

Couldn't care less either way!

My ds is a swimmer and trains at 5am some days and until 9pm others.

We tend to be out in the dark at some point most weeks for most of the year!

spacefighter · 27/10/2018 12:20

I love dark nights!

Roomba · 27/10/2018 12:29

I absolutely detest it - I'm sure I must suffer from at least mild SAD. I try to console myself by remembering that this means it's only a few weeks until the shortest day of the year, and it will start getting lighter again not long after.
