Anyone else dread the clocks going back

I hate the long dark nights
Go in to work in the dark
Come home in the dark
I find myself getting quite anxious and low as the weeks go on
Try and embrace the cosy element but I miss daylight
I am the grinch I know Grin

Nearly time for skiing...

Jojoanna · 27/10/2018 15:21

Detest the dark evenings

MrsJonesAndMe · 27/10/2018 15:27

Hate it!

Chottie · 27/10/2018 15:44

OP - I hate it too........

Fluffyears · 27/10/2018 15:51

Hate it I’m in Scotland and go to work in the dark and come home in the dark for months on end.

gbmmains · 27/10/2018 15:51

Looking forward to it, live pretty much as North as you can go on the mainland, I have a sad light but really like the clock switch and the lighter mornings that come with it.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 27/10/2018 16:20

I agree OP - I hate the darkness more than anything. I love it when it is light at 4am in the summer and the birds are singing - it's wonderful. Now I count down the days to the shortest day when it all starts to get better again!

The only consolation is the old saying 'if winter comes, can spring be far behind?'

Yes I dread it as a sufferer of SAD, but the purchase of a daylight lamp (aka SAD light) a few years ago has changed my life for the better.

The clocks going forward is the highlight of my year.

LoniceraJaponica · 27/10/2018 16:32

I’m with the OP on this. Low light levels and long dark nights make me feel really low and miserable.

“I love putting all the lights and candles on and getting all cosy”

I hate sitting in the dark. Candle light hurts my eyes. I hate “cosy”. To me it feels claustrophobic. I prefer light and airy.

Another reason that I really don’t cope well with low light levels is that I have terrible eyesight, and need good light levels to be able to see well. I am not a bat or an owl. I assume that people who don’t mind the short daylight hours don’t drive to and from work in the dark, and have excellent vision.

GeoEm · 27/10/2018 16:33

I am not too bothered other than the dark mornings and dark nights (when I actually wake up an a reasonable time haha.)
It makes me so tired and sleepy/unsettled sleep even if I have kept a normal routine and slept well, other than that I don't give it much notice.

GeoEm · 27/10/2018 16:34

It's already freezing where I am in Scotland so it's pretty miserable regardless of the dark mornings and nights.
*sorry double post don't know how to edit posts.

dawnacorns · 27/10/2018 16:34

I hate it too. The constant cold. As pp said, I cannot get warm and find it easier to cool down when hot than I do to warm up from freezing. It makes me feel lonely and down. Must look into SAD and a lamp.

carpetrunner · 27/10/2018 16:44

This was my favourite clock change until dc. Used to get an extra hour in bed. Now I just get an hour of resentment Grin

BarbedBloom · 27/10/2018 16:46

I love it too, sorry. I love the autumn and winter. It is lovely lighting candles and snuggling under a blanket. But I also understand it can seem a long dark time for those who prefer spring/summer

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/10/2018 16:48

carpetrunner my thoughts exactly!

IsadoraQuagmire · 27/10/2018 16:49

I hate the dark, I hate the cold, I hate everything about depressing Winter (especially Christmas and the way people bang boringly on about it for months in advance)
I only like warm, sunny weather, anything from 24 to about 34 degrees is perfect.

Pebblespony · 27/10/2018 16:50

They're planning on changing it here in Ireland so this might be the last year the clocks go back.

caterpuller · 27/10/2018 16:52

It's just a fact of life to me. Clocks go back in October, forwards in March. We have seasons. It gets warmer in summer (hot even) and colder in winter. I do love the changing seasons, wouldn't want to live somewhere that was the same all year round. There's so much to enjoy and look forward to at every change during the year.

Jakethecob · 27/10/2018 16:58

Hate it. We wake up naturally at six latest in our house. Tomorrow it will be an hour earlier. Then sunset will be at half past four, not half past five. It's moronic.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 27/10/2018 17:02

I never used to care, but since having DS(3) I dread the dark evenings, because we would normally be out from 4 until teatime, and the playgrounds and marshes we would go to aren't lit, so I have to be more inventive.

On work days it doesn't bother me.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/10/2018 17:03

Thing is I love autumn, just struggle with the darkness.
I wonder why it seems to affect my mental health more the older I get
I try and get out as much as I can and take plenty of excercise and work hard to keep my anxiety at bay
Maybe I should just hibernate till March Grin

ilovesooty · 27/10/2018 17:08

I absolutely loathe it and will now be counting down the days until they go forward again.

And "cosy " snuggle" and "hunker" can do one.

dawnacorns · 27/10/2018 17:09

I've found it harder with age too OP. Never used to bother me too much. Now I can see why people retire abroad to the sun. if Brexit hadn't fucked up my plans

Loyaultemelie · 27/10/2018 17:58

Georgie yes that's exactly what I wanted to describe too!
