Up the week before Christmas, down on Boxing Day.

Polkasq · 25/10/2018 07:08

December, a few days before Christmas.

But it's your house, so no-one will stop you if you have a Christmas tree all year round... you will get away with it

WipsGlitter · 25/10/2018 07:21

I will put mine up on the 15th. I hear that Christmas has become a full month (or more) of stuff now. It's so overblown.

Ours always stays up till 12th Night, I can't imagine taking it down earlier, the room always seems so bare when its gone.

Upsy1981 · 25/10/2018 07:55

Ours goes up second weekend of Dec usually, depending how the dates fall. Its my birthday at the beginning of December so I keep the two things separate.

Jaxtellerswife · 25/10/2018 07:57

Mid November. It doesn't hurt anyone and makes us all happy so it doesn't really matter.

Parker231 · 25/10/2018 07:57

Don’t think we have ever kept them up to 12th night. We have a big New Years Eve party and I like everything cleaned in time for that.

Upsy1981 · 25/10/2018 07:57

I'm really curious (and not having a go, personal choice and all that) but why some people take their tree down so early e.g. boxing day or day after? That still feels like Christmas to me.

kaytee87 · 25/10/2018 07:59

We buy our tree on the first Saturday or Sunday in December and usually decorate it that evening.

Parker231 · 25/10/2018 08:01

For us Christmas finishes on Boxing Day, we then start New Year party preparations and off skiing on 3rd January.

Littlelambpeep · 25/10/2018 08:01

We have a birthday early December but also I work the second weekend when I would normally do it so maybe the 1st this year.

Curlypop · 25/10/2018 08:02

Mid November! Can't wait.

LEMtheoriginal · 25/10/2018 08:17

They had the up outside the natural history museum yesterday Hmm

But no dont put it up too early - youll be sick of the sight of it by Christmas

OliviaStabler · 25/10/2018 08:19

First weekend in December. Looking forward to decorating the tree 🎄 this year

Chocolateismyvice · 25/10/2018 08:25

We usually put ours up the first weekend of December, with Christmas songs on and a glass of wine. However, this year Im dreading the tree with a lively toddler so probably hold off for another week or two.

Usually take it down on Jan 2nd.

Notjustanyone · 25/10/2018 08:33

1st December and gets taken down on 12th night but if I could I would never take them down. I love my house all decorated for Christmas. It's so depressing when they are taken down and I miss the lights timer coming on to signal the evening and time to relax.

Melamin · 25/10/2018 08:43

I missed the fairy lights so much one year that I spent my Christmas money on some naice tasteful non Christmas ones. The come down in midsummer to make way for blinds, then back in September to cheer up the early evenings.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/10/2018 08:45

I always put mine up on the day the schools finished - so about the 20th

But last year for the first time I put them up on the 1st. Loved it and will do it again this year.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 25/10/2018 09:30

Do it whenever you like - life is too short to not do the things which make you happy!

Notonthestairs · 25/10/2018 09:38

Up mid December, taken down on 12th night.
I love the bit between Christmas and New Year. It feels very calm and satisfying that everything is done and everyone well most people are happy and relaxed.

Rockbird · 25/10/2018 09:41

Weekend nearest 1st Dec for us. Used to be later but the dds put paid to that! And it comes down New Year's Day. I hate NYE/NYD anyway and having the tree up just adds to the misery so I'd rather it was gone.

However, being the lazy tart that I am, our big hedge out the front still has the lights all over it and I'm very tempted to start turning the white ones on. Fairy lights are my favourite part of winter. Neighbours might think I'm mad though...

kaytee87 · 25/10/2018 09:44

We take ours down the day before we're back at work. We get 2nd January off in Scotland so it's usually that day, give the house a good clean and batch cook some healthy meals.

AtSea1979 · 25/10/2018 09:47

When the Halloween decorations come down.
I won’t be waiting until December. It’s such a faff to put up and decorate and i’ve spent a lot of money on it so I want to enjoy it for as long as possible. Having said that, I’m always itching to take it down once Christmas is done and have my space back!

Mildmanneredmum · 25/10/2018 09:49

@Brillo - me too! Are your sprouts on yet? Mine have been on since July but they're still not ready.

Mildmanneredmum · 25/10/2018 09:51

OP, actually a missing piece of key information - what is your new "theme"? I changed mine to copper and gold last year, looks lovely!
