I was 5 3 by 8 started my period and ended up at 5 7. So she’s very likely to keep growing. Am sure she looks lovely. I wish I was taller!

EleanorLavish · 24/10/2018 21:39

My son is 5’6” already and one of the youngest in his year, he is 11yo. They just measured everyone in the class and only 1 other was above him, and these two were well above everyone else by a long way.
My youngest is the tallest in his class as well, eldest is above average but not exceptionally tall.

guineapig1 · 24/10/2018 21:43

You may find she stops pretty soon though! At 5”4 I was one of the the tallest in my class during the first year at high school. I was still wearing the same school shirts when I was in the sixth form and by that time had stopped growing and was towards the short end of the class!

ljbrad · 24/10/2018 21:59

I had this - Was 5 7 at age 9... 18 years later im 5 8 so she's not alone - just watch everyone grow around you!

PlantsArePeopleToo · 24/10/2018 22:55

I'm only 5'1 Sad

averageisgood · 24/10/2018 23:03

I was 5ft5 at age 10, and 5ft6 now. People caught up with me around age 13

ThirdChildFourthPile · 24/10/2018 23:05

That sounds abnormal.

Fucksgiven · 24/10/2018 23:08

That's not really that tall for her age. I was that height at her age and am only 5'11. She will be who she is

jmh740 · 24/10/2018 23:11

I was 5'9 with size 7 feet when i left primary school, now (many years later) im 5'10 with size 8 feet i think i just peaked early

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 24/10/2018 23:14

I thought my 14 yo was tall, and he's the same height! Mind you I'm only 5ft 1, so everyone is tall to me!

EskSmith · 24/10/2018 23:19

Fucksgiven, 5'7" is seriously tall for a 9 year old, not a problem but definitely tall there isn't a child in our primary school who is that tall ( I know because I'm that tall too!).
My dd2 is 9 (10 in Feb) and 5'1, she is the tallest in her year by at least an inch, probably 2.
However OP there isn't much you can change so encourage her to embrace it. I'd agree with those who say just watch for older behaviour expectations being put on her, lots and lots of people do this without thinking and it's important to highlight where possible.

Penguinsetpandas · 24/10/2018 23:20

That's tall but glad she's fine. My kids think its very amusing I will be the shortest in a few years and I am 5 foot 6 so not small 😳

Abitlost2015 · 24/10/2018 23:23

Watch out that she maintains a good posture as very tall children may tend to slouch. If she likes dance that’s a good activity to aid posture

IndieTara · 24/10/2018 23:30

My DD is 9, In Age 12 clothes and with size 6 feet!

IloveSaturdays1 · 24/10/2018 23:34

Lucky girl. I wish I was as tall as your daughter 😬

Ollivander84 · 24/10/2018 23:35

I was similar, started my periods at 9. Was so tall age 3 that parents took me to the doctors and I was referred but everything fine. I was premature and they expected me to be small
I stopped growing and am 5ft 10 now

mikado1 · 24/10/2018 23:36

She shouldn't have to sit in the small chairs, I always give a v tall child the option of the bigger chairs and they usually take it!

irishe · 24/10/2018 23:38

I was 5ft 8 in Primary Seven, size 8 feet. This was back in the early eighties, when i think women were shorter. I was 5ft 10 when I left secondary aged 18. So most of my growth happened early.

There was only me and one other girl that height in my entire secondary school. Now when I am out and about I see loads of tall young woman. Are we getting taller?

BTW, don’t worry about your daughters height, being tall is great, no disadvantages, plenty of advantages.

AtSea1979 · 24/10/2018 23:40

Blimey that is very tall. My DD is tall. She’s 9, shes 5’5” and in size 6 shoes. In size 13-14 clothes. I feel sorry for her because she wants to wear pink girly clothes/shoes etc and she’s stuck with dark teenage/ladies small clothes.

clary · 24/10/2018 23:42

That is tall op but as you can see from pps, not unheard of.

I taught a yr 7 girl who was 5ft 7 and also one of my yr 7 form wore size 8 shoes... She didn't get much bigger after that year tho, in yr 11 she was similar height and size to a lot of the others.

It's great to be tall 😁

NorthEndGal · 24/10/2018 23:43

My dd is 6 foot 1 and a bit (she is on the right). Shewas always the tallest in the class, and didnt stop growing until she was about 20.

She's all legs! DD1 here is the same. She looks down at me and smiles benignly. Photos of us together just make me look ridiculous :-)

Zoflorabore · 25/10/2018 09:36

Wow North those legs! Your dd1 looks bloody amazing :)

My ds (15) is 6ft1 too and I'm not sure if he's stopped growing yet, I doubt it. He loves being tall. He was offered a pint of lager recently at a football game which made him laugh. He's very anti-drink ( unlike his mother ) and the man who offered it was mortified when ds said he was only 15, he does have a beard though so easy to assume Grin

twoheaped · 25/10/2018 09:42

My dd, who is 12, is 5'10". Was born off the scale long and has stayed that way.
Her legs are amazingly long and I am quite envious.
Her older sister stopped at 5'2" but she is happy with her lot Smile

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/10/2018 09:46

@NorthEndGal, your daughter looks fabulous, and those legs go on forever ! 😄
