My 9 year old daughter is 5ft 7 inches tall!!

I'm shocked! I'm only 5ft 4 and I knew she was a bit taller than me but blimey! Anyone else got a tall child? Will she ever stop growing???

She might stop pretty soon. Some people do. I went to school with a family of tall children - dad was 6'5 and mum was about 5'2. Their son was in my class and he towered over us right up to age 11 ... when he stopped growing. He's about 5'5. His sister is nearly 6 foot tall!

I believe that puberty has to do with it - generally, after the onset of puberty, women don't grow very much taller. So that may end up being an indication of whether she's nearly done, or not.

My friend was 5ft10 at 12 when we started senior school, she was just over 6ft1 in the end. No idea what she was at 9 though sorry. I agree that it doesn't necessarily make a difference, I didn't grow much after 12 . Lucky girl though, I would have loved to be tall.

I'm 5'4" and my husband is 6'5"
Our daughter was always on the 99th centile
She had massive growth spurts - I could buy 3 sets of clothing in a year - every year!
She had larger feet than her friends and we'd shop in Chiltern street where there are about 5 shops for larger sizes - thank heavens for New Look and Brantano!!
She was 6' years ago - now she is 20 and 6'1" - so is her boyfriend of 4 years and is a size 9 shoe
Flats for prom was pricey but worth every penny!! Don't worry - she is not alone!

That is tall! My 10 year old is the tallest in her class at 5ft 2.

IME from very early on extremely tall classmates (almost 5 feet at 5y.o.) stopped growing much earlier than the rest of us and had a normal height. I have also seen some children of very tall parents who are relatively short at a young age. They tend to grow slower but for longer.

There was a tall girl in my dcs primary. She easily looked as though she was in year six when she was in year 2 or 3. Thing was everyone presumed she was older and treated her as such.

She was always going to be tall, even as toddler she was at least a foot taller than her nursery friends! I'm just shocked at how much she has grown in a small amount of time really, she was 5ft 4 earlier in the year. She costs me a small fortune in clothes and shoes too but she does love being tall especially as a defender in her football team. 6ft 1 tho! I'm guess I'm nostalgic for my small (to me anyway) little bug, she's grown so fast I didn't realise just how fast if you see what I mean.

I was 5’3” at 9 and only ever made it to 5’4”! I had my first period at 10 (although not another for nearly a year) and that was it. It’s a bit folk tales, but does she have big hands/feet or joints that seem outsized for her current height. That’s a sign she’s got more to grow into iyswim.

This was me back in the day, not as tall as your dd, I was 5ft 6 at 9 and in a size 8 shoe. My mum was worried about my feet!

For context, i started first year juniors ( now called year 3 ) in adult size 5 shoes, my dd is this age and has just gone into a 2.

My feet never grew again ( thank god ) and I stayed the same height but unfortunately I filled out elsewhere

My brother is 6ft 7 so I'm tiny compared to him but I think my ds is following in his footsteps, 6ft 2 and a size 14 shoes at 15 years old. He's like having a husband.

I think my dd will be around my height.

That's way above the 100th centile and would be considered abnormal. You really need to get her to a Gp and voice your concerns as there are some conditions which cause excessive height (for age) amongst other very serious issues.

I am expecting my girls to be tall, dad is 6'4 (I am an average 5'5). They turned 6 last month and 124cm which is 4'1.

I was around that height at the same age.

She's a size 7 shoe and does appear to be all arms and legs. It's funny you should mention being treated older - I had to speak to her class teacher about just this last week. She was getting into trouble all the time for minor things and we both agreed that it's really hard because she does look older, it's natural to assume a higher standard of behaviour to her. She's also really uncomfortable sitting at the small chairs and tables I think.

She was discharged from paediatric consultant today which is why I know exactly how tall she is. She's had all the tests including a MRI and hormone tests and there is nothing wrong at all. She's just very tall for her age. Her dad is tall, around 6ft 3, but not in our life so it does look odd when we walk to school together, looks like she should be taking me to school! She's lovely tho

Yes - she was always being taken for older - I learnt to say out loud to her mentioning her age so people realised she was a mature ?age, rather than a precocious older age
She was always taller than her friends - picked for netball/basketball and was very sporty
She is very caring and I remember one of her friends saying she liked going shopping with cindersdd because she felt safe!
But it evened out later - when her friends started to wear stilettos!!
She absolutely loves being tall - thankfully!!

I was about that height at her age. I am 5 ft 9 now. 

My oldest was 5'7 at 9. She's now 17 and has stopped growing at just over 6'.

Her doctor never expressed any worries about her growth - her dad is 6'3 so she obviously takes after him. I'm 5'7, and my younger DD obviously takes after me as she's 5'5 and is 15.

wow! that is tall, mines not far behind hes 9yrs my DS but 5ft. tallest inthe year and class always. glad im not the only one, she may stop soon though.

I don't think the size of her hands are an accurate predictor of her eventual height. I've got large man sized hands and size 8 feet but I'm only 5'3" and stopped growing taller in my mid teens. 

That’s seriously tall! She must be so uncomfortable on the tiny school chairs. I’m the same height and I struggle at the toddler classes when they get those chairs out.

My 22 month old is extremely tall and we do notice that people expect a lot from him. It always makes me laugh when strangers expect fluent conversation out of him when we’re out and about.

I was a tall child - not sure how tall at what age but always tallest in my class through primary school, and had the same thing about people thinking and treating me as if I was older. Anyway I stopped growing in early secondary school and am now 5’7. I was overtaken by lots of people who were shorter than me for years. So she might not necessarily grow loads more.

My youngest daughter was the same height at the same age. She's now in her 20's and 5ft 10, really sporty, really slim, and embraces her height now. In her early teens she was a lot taller than most of her friends and went through a stage of feeling self-conscious.

She looks gorgeous(I may be a bit biased) - skinny jeans were made for women like her. Her boyfriend is the same height as her, so she tends not to wear heels all the time but she will if the occasion demands it.

It is odd reaching up for a cuddle though

She might not continue to grow but you just don’t know! I was average until I hit secondary and all those that were ‘tall’ stayed the same height and I ended up 6ft. My OH is 6ft 4 so I would be surprised if any of my DC aren’t tall. My eldest is 6ft 2 and my DD is 5ft 10 and she is 14.

I was always tall and got to 5’9’’ by secondary school and then just stopped and others caught up. I measured myself last week and I’m exactly 5’9’’.
