If you could give someone ONE pear of wisdom to someone prior to your dying what would it be?

For me, I think I’d say

Truly, Stand up for yourself - you are worth far more than you think.

Would love to hear other pearls of wisdom - in a contemplative mood today!

Who is to blame for who I will be

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/10/2018 18:52

If the pear of wisdom is like other pears, you have precisely 17 minutes to eat it before it turns from sour rock to inedible gritty mush.

Mine would be: whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re probably right.

TheFaerieQueene · 24/10/2018 18:54

Be kind, but don’t stand for any shit.

ChikiTIKI · 24/10/2018 18:56

I would tell them about Jesus

AllAtHome · 24/10/2018 18:58

@Gumbo yes!! I wish I could let our neighbour opposite know that without admitting everything has been on view for a while!

TooTrueToBeGood · 24/10/2018 19:06

People and events don't make you feel angry or sad. You choose your feelings, albeit subconciously. You don't need to be angry or sad, you can choose to simply not give a flying fuck.

Don't waste energy on things you cannot change. That includes wasting emotional energy stressing about things that have already happened.

IAmNotLikeThem · 24/10/2018 19:09

For me, having thought about it, the most liberating statement of all;

Everything I have ever expressed could be wrong

Think about it Wink

GoldenBuns · 24/10/2018 19:12

Nothing good ever comes from losing your temper - if you can keep your cool in a difficult situation you will have the advantage.

SandysMam · 24/10/2018 19:13

It’s as easy to fall in love with a rich man as it is a poor one!

Bestseller · 24/10/2018 19:15

It's cheesy but it's life changing:

You can't choose what happens to you but you can choose how you react. Too many people waste too much time being angry/bitter/sad about the way someone else has treated them when the only person it's hurting is themselves.

User5trillion · 24/10/2018 19:16

When I was 18 my grandad died, just before he passed he told me his advice was do not drift, that advice has served me well.

I also like enjoy yourself its later than you think.

Bestseller · 24/10/2018 19:18

My Granddad's was "money cant buy you happiness but it makes being miserable a darn sight more comfortable"

UtterlyDesperate · 24/10/2018 19:38

My grandad always said "spend lavishly on anything that goes between you and the ground - shoes, mattresses, tyres"

My personal pear is a stolen (scrumped?) one: "even the weariest river/winds somewhere safe to sea'

Oh:"and whenever possible, be kind. It is always possible."

Two pears - I've come over all Each peach, pear, plum Grin

Thisisit777 · 24/10/2018 19:43

You’re a wise old lot Grin if not a bit cheeky 😂😂😂 but that’s pear enough I suppose Grin

I LOVE this thread.

@IAmNotLikeThem The best analogies for life, love, health, and everything are found in agricultural sayings. We spent 700 years there.

I love this but I can't think of any - please can you share some?

I also really loved your "life is just a game" advice. That's very liberating!

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 24/10/2018 22:44

Adds "Pear of Wisdom" to the MN lexicon, for future Name Changers to use

Mine:-

Never trust politicians/the political establishment.
Don't believe what politicians/the political establishment say.
Always remember that politicians work for the people, not the other way around.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 25/10/2018 00:32

I like a pear

Mine is: Life REALLY isn't a rehearsal, so it's better to regret what you have done than things you haven't.

And forgive yourself!

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 25/10/2018 01:11

If they don't love you as you are, they won't love you if you change yourself into someone you're not.

SusieQ5604 · 25/10/2018 01:22

Be kind. What goes around, comes around.

Bloodybridget · 25/10/2018 01:31

Don't stay in a relationship where you are not loved and valued.

RonaldMcDonald · 25/10/2018 01:34

Educate yourself to a point where you can ensure you never have to lift anything heavier than a pen - unless you wish to ( docker Grandfather’s pear)

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 25/10/2018 01:35

No one at the end of their life says "I wish I'd spent more time at the office"

brizzledrizzle · 25/10/2018 02:21

The sun will still come up in the morning, my grandmother used that a lot but I've not heard it for years.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/10/2018 02:50

My favourite quote, "life is mostly froth and bubble. Two things stand like stone. Kindness in another's trouble, courage in your own".

Paperdolly · 25/10/2018 03:50

Never a lender or borrower be. (my mum)

A dog that will fetch, will also carry. (my mum)

Go on your instincts when raising kids. When they get to teenagers they will tell you you've done it wrong anyway. ( my sister)

That's 3 pears; a virtual crumble!! 😂
