How much do you drink?

I drink far too much but just want to know what the average is? I'm currently averaging 3 glasses of wine a night and I feel so bad about it.

OP posts:
Jackshouse · 19/10/2018 18:12

That is a bottle of wine, approx 9 units a night. The NHS recommendation is 14 unit max for a women a week.

I drink about 10 unit if I go out, approx once every 3 weeks. I will have a glass of wine in the house probably once every two weeks.

MawkishTwaddle · 19/10/2018 18:15

I sniff a beermat once every Halley's Comet, except for Christmas when I walk down Waitrose's wine aisle without holding my breath.*

*not really, but as this is an MN drinking thread I thought I'd get my implausible response in early.

saganorenscarandcoat · 19/10/2018 18:16

Oh MawkishTwaddle I think I'd get on with the you Grin

Barely anything. I'm practically tee total but will happily have a glass of fizz on special occasions.

BakedBeans47 · 19/10/2018 18:18

Until 5 weeks ago I drank far too much and finally felt able to face up to the problem I knew I had. I then went alcohol free for 3 weeks and since then have had a total of 11 units over 4 nights (spread apart). Currently contemplating just going teetotal to be honest.

Jaguarana · 19/10/2018 18:19

Far too much Blush

disconnecteddrifter · 19/10/2018 18:19

I drink half a bottle of wine on weds and Thursday and sometimes a bottle on the weekend, more if I go out. Like five pints and I know it's too much

Starwednesday · 19/10/2018 18:20

Most days and weeks I never drink a thing, but when I go out ( maybe 3 or 4 times a year) I get completely wasted
My downfall is chocolate not alcohol

SandysMam · 19/10/2018 18:20

OP, you will probably get loads of people coming on to say how virtuous they are and never drink. O would say 3 glasses a night is too much, there is a good thread in relationships if you want to stop or cut down, sure someone will link soon!

LongSummerDays · 19/10/2018 18:20

I used to drink easily a bottle of wine+ every night but stopped because OH had a health scare.

I don't miss it, my sleep has improved and my skin looks healthy again. It was a habit, no more but one that I've happily dropped.

The weekly shop is cheaper, too. Grin

WendyCope · 19/10/2018 18:20

OP You will only get the 'I drink a Baileys at Christmas' people out answering this. FWIW NHS recommendations mean jack shit.

Anyhow, I drink the same as you. Look at all the threads on this. Not ideal at all, but neither is being overweight, smoking, not exercising, ready meals or stress or many other lifestyle factors. I drink loads of water every day and eat my 5 a day (at least) and don't smoke. Drinking wine makes me happy.

BakedBeans47 · 19/10/2018 18:20

Will knowing that other people drink too much make you feel better about your own habits? I was in denial for years about my own problem but there’s so much help and support out there if you want to cut down (including here on MN) and I have read a lot of books in the last few weeks which have helped change my mindset

BiscuitDrama · 19/10/2018 18:21

That is a bottle of wine - it’s not, unless you’re drinking 250ml glasses which is unlikely at home. Glasses could be from 125ml, it makes such a difference.
Which do you think it is, OP, a bottle or a half?

I stopped drinking as mine was too much, to answe your question. On Mumsnet there are lots of people who don’t drink at all, but Ive yet to find them IRL.

Sitranced · 19/10/2018 18:21

One or two drinks a month

SymphonyofShadows · 19/10/2018 18:21

Nothing anymore, but I used to drink far too much wine over a week. Weirdly just stopped dead after my summer holiday, I just didn't fancy it anymore.

goldface · 19/10/2018 18:22

I have a couple of g and t's on fri night and then get a bottle of prosecco which I start on sat eve and finish on Sunday eve!
Not sure how many units that is?

fleshmarketclose · 19/10/2018 18:23

I don't drink at all, haven't for 30 years, not for any particular reason more I never got into the habit I suppose.

WendyCope · 19/10/2018 18:24

Grin you see?

Amaaboutthis · 19/10/2018 18:25

I once saw a photo of a bottle of wine.

That the usual MN virtue signalling on these posts. I drink 2 small glasses most nights. Quite frankly I’m happy with that, I enjoy it.

AamdC · 19/10/2018 18:26

Too much but im cutting down as on a diet , im having 2 or 3 drink free nights a week it used ro be every night.

saganorenscarandcoat · 19/10/2018 18:26

@WendyCope it makes me happy too! You only live once and there is a lot I don't do but I enjoy a glass or three of wine. I feel bad as think it's the worst thing in the world but actually it's not.

OP posts:
YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 19/10/2018 18:26

Loads. I’ll have two bottles of wine this evening probably, and I had a couple spread throughout the week.

Every so often I’ll get all worried that it’s a problem (and when my MH is bad it can be tbf, daytime drinking etc) but it’s pretty much the same level of drinking as everyone I know.

MumGoneCrazy · 19/10/2018 18:26

I drink about 5/6 times a year, Xmas, new years and a few birthdays. When I do drink on them occasions I binge, we go nuts at Xmas and new years with jagerbombs vodka shots and drinking games.

I'm not a wine person and don't think jager is a everyday drink Grin

MumGoneCrazy · 19/10/2018 18:29

I think your ok as long as it's not 2 or 3 glasses in this glass Grin

How much do you drink?
OneForTheRoadThen · 19/10/2018 18:30

One bottle of wine a week, all at once, on a Friday night. And that's only because I have very young kids, otherwise it'd be MORE 😀
