How much do you drink?

I drink far too much but just want to know what the average is? I'm currently averaging 3 glasses of wine a night and I feel so bad about it.

I probably average one alcoholic drink every 2 months, DH probably averages 1/2 a bottle a night - usually a bottle a night and then he will have a few nights off - he gets silly drink maybe 4/5 times a year.

Mijkl · 19/10/2018 21:49

Not much.
If it is virtue signalling to say you drink hardly anything, I assume it's vice signalling to say you drink lots?

DiaryofWimpyMum · 19/10/2018 22:08

I don't drink at all anymore. I have to take medication daily and alcohol doesn't mix well with them

Nothing anymore. Got wasted on spirits, thought I was in a serious state scared the heck out of me never to do that again. Also was away with the in laws, I may have stripped off in front of them... That thought alone puts me off drinking again

Juanbablo · 19/10/2018 22:23

One glass of wine or half a bottle of cider a fortnight. Dh will have a couple of beers a week.

Notjustanyone · 19/10/2018 22:50

I went teetotal in August after drinking so much I puked. It's put me right off alcohol and just one sniff makes me feel queasy. I feel 100% better for it and my skin is looking loads better & I look younger. I will never drink again.

Justlikedevon · 19/10/2018 22:59

I drink shit loads. Far too much. It doesn't help that after years of drinking my tolerance is stupidly high. I'm also a binge drinker. Can go AF for ages then do 3 bottles of wine or 12 pints in one hit. I'll give up totally one day - I could never cut down because of my binge tendencies.

YouBetterWOooOooOoo · 19/10/2018 23:00

I usually have a drink or two on friday and saturday nights. Tonight I've had a glass of red and am now on a jim beam honey and lemonade as the wine is gone (we finished last weekends bottle). I may have another after or just leave it at that. Since DD I'm a lightweight and I really don't like being smashed anyway, I start feeling like shit on the same night (instead of the next day like regular people)

Avegemitesandwich · 19/10/2018 23:01

I hate the question 'how many units do you drink a week'?

I can go for weeks, months even without touching a drop and I don't miss it at all. When I see this advice to 'perhaps try drinking only every other night' or 'Stoptober' as a thing I am always like Confused I hate drinking wine in the evenings as it just makes me sleepy and feel weird and then there is wine left over in the bottle and I feel pressured to finish it the next day, even if I don't want to. Plus if i was putting wine/gin in the weekly shop it would just feel like it was too indulgent or something!

However I'm far from teetotal and if we go out of round yo someone's house or whatever, I will usually drink, and quite a lot. It all depends on what is going on in my social calendar really!

Methe · 19/10/2018 23:02

I drank a bottle of wine a night for years and years until it made me fat and I started worrying about my health.

I don’t drink at all now.

Nottheduchessoftransiyvaniaaaa · 19/10/2018 23:05

I used to drink every night, sometimes just one glass of wine, sometimes the bottle. I only drink twice a week now and I can’t believe how good I feel for it. I no longer have to have a drink, I have more energy, I’m happier, less snappy. I would. Recommend cutting down for anyone.

thighofrelief · 19/10/2018 23:26

Nothing..........now Grin 6 years sober and the best thing I ever did.

When I drank i thought everyone else was a pisshead too. Now I'm sober i notice how few people drink "properly".

Kezzie200 · 20/10/2018 06:15

I rarely drank when kids were at home as we are rural and i was always driving or needed to be prepared too.

Since them growing up Ive discovered gin. I generally have one most nights but Im a devil for getting distracted and drinking half of somethinv, so the rest goes in the fridge for the next day.

luckylavender · 20/10/2018 06:22

Hardly anything. G&T occasionally & fizz or wine at Christmas. Currently on holiday in Asia & haven't felt the need at all.

nicebitofquiche · 20/10/2018 07:01

Never drink at home. Go out once every couple of weeks and drink a lot. Had 8 pints last Saturday (over a 8 hour period with a meal in the middle). Wasn't very drunk.

Bluesheep8 · 20/10/2018 07:03

Honestly? I don't drink Monday- Thursday but will confess to drinking a bottle of wine on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There. Said it Blush

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 20/10/2018 07:27

I don't drink because I don't really like the taste of alcohol and if I get drunk I fall asleep rather having a nice time so I don't see the point!

The exception is mulled wine which I love so I have a few of those over Xmas.

QueenofLouisiana · 20/10/2018 07:29

On a normal week, about 2-3 glasses; either wine or G&T. This week is half term, so I’ll drink a bit more probably. Hallowe’en party- quite a lot more.

We live rurally, DS needs a lift somewhere almost every night which has reduced my drinking over the years.

Camomila · 20/10/2018 08:00

A glass of wine every couple of weeks at home (usually If I'm making something with beef then I fancy some red wine with it)

Otherwise if I go out I tend to have 2 drinks, maybe go out every 3 months? Feel cheeky asking DM for too much babysitting.

Meet0nTheIedge · 20/10/2018 08:22

A glass of wine or two in the pub maybe once a month. Very occasional drink at home (maybe once every couple of months). A bit more through December, I make sloe gin or similar and will have a little glass most evenings. I'm in my 50s. Through my twenties and early 30s (pre DCs) it used to be more, there were a few occasions when I made myself sick but it was generally always on nights out, I've never been a regular home drinker.

You only have to walk down the street on glass recycling day to see that there is a huge variation in what people drink. I have a lot of friends who drink a glass or two most nights, but also quite a few who rarely or never touch a drop.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 20/10/2018 08:29

I don't drink much at all. Maybe a couple of glasses once every two weeks but can easily go without. I don't really enjoy it anymore, not sure why.

Howdoyoudoit31 · 20/10/2018 08:30

I drink once a month to once every 6 weeks on a night out with the girls.

On those nights I drink ALOT. Bottle of wine before I even go out plus some shots.

But I don’t drink at all at home and won’t drink from one night out to the next.

Sammysquiz · 20/10/2018 08:30

I used to drink a couple of bottles of wine a week, then I got into running and started drinking less and less as I got fitter. Now I have a very occasional drink, and don’t really miss it. The only issue I find is handling other people’s perceptions of me, which is demonstrated on this thread by the people taking the piss out of non-drinkers. I still go out, have fun, enjoy socialising etc!

Schmoochypoos · 20/10/2018 08:32

Couple of glasses of wine a week. More if I go out and I’m not driving. Much less since I had 2DC! Can’t face the thought of a hangover at 6am Brew

Babybearsporij · 20/10/2018 09:06

I don't drink a lot, but when I do, about once a month or so, it'll be 2 glasses of wine when out or 3-4 gin & tonics at home.
