I think I've just been fired

Boss found out that I applied for a job with our parent company. Supposed to be anonymous; but I'd have said when it was appropriate. Our HR director beat me to it; in front of a lot of people, apparently.

He took me into a room to say that it was humiliating; and means he no longer trusts me, so how do we move forward. He said my work is excellent but this is a big issue.

He's given me some time to think. Presumably he's expecting my notice this evening. I've been here just under two years so there's nothing I can do.

This has made my anxiety rocket and I don't know want to do.

So the total would be 3.5 months pay or thereabouts? Plus a reference, which depending on the industry could be make or break.

You have been treated absolutely appallingly and your so called manager should be hung out to dry. He has pretty much looked at the "Guidelines for Managers on How to Deal with a Sick Employee" and broken every fucking rule. Asking your friend for an update!! Bloody unbelievable!

Before considering going for a constructive dismissal case, please bear in mind this info that I got from a friend of mine who had been treated similarly appallingly. He was told by a solicitor that in order to bring an UD case, he needed to not be employed or have any job offer on the table. By that point he already had another job offer so he elected to settle instead.

Your own health is the most important thing here so if you feel 3.5 months is enough for you to find another job then I'd crack on with that.

Forgot to say: my experience of HR as a manager and an employee has been a lot more positive and I'm sorry you've been let down.

Problem managers are definitely managed out (depending on company) so as a PP suggested your grievance could be the final nail in the coffin for this sack of shite who calls himself your line manager.

I was involved a few years ago with a grievance from an employee which turned into a disciplinary against her manager that resulted in him being dismissed. He had been getting away with shit behavior for 10+ years because nobody had followed through. He'd just been moved sideways into different positions. Finally he came up against a management structure who weren't prepared to keep allowing him. I was so proud to be a part of that process.

BTW does your employer do 360 feedback?

I think this is a classic example of how people with mental health difficulties/diagnosis are discriminated against because when unwell, they just don’t have the energy to fight, stand their ground, and play the long game. I know why you want it to be over op, but from a lay mans perspective, I don’t think they would stand a chance in court. It’s hard to believe this is all because you applied for another job.
I wish you all the well in the world op.

Thank you all for your comments and company; it's meant a lot to me today.

I called my solicitor and then went back to clarify some points with ACAS. Because my conciliator is now on maternity; it's a different duty person each time, which is making life hard.

I'd asked for an amount that was higher than I was prepared to settle for; as advised by my solicitor, so they could negotiate down a bit. They've offered me 73% of what I wanted to achieve.

We've agreed to go back with 80%; as our final position. It was put to them this afternoon, but no update yet on whether they've accepted. The reference will be important.

The bonus comment was just designed to hurt me; I think. I suspect if the same conciliator had seen this through, they'd have asked for it as compensation as opposed to my bonus; so that work couldn't say that the bonus is only payable to people who are at work when it's paid.

They do do 360 feedback. The last report that I got was really positive all round; people struggled for things that I could improve overall, I take a lot of pride in my job and being good at it. Or I did.

Weekend now; so I guess I won't hear anything until Monday. I'm trying to see it as a good thing that we seem almost there.
