80s people-guess what I found in Sainsburys yesterday?

Lambrusco! White, rose and red. I had to get a bottle for nostalgia's sake. (And its 2.95 a bottle) It was the pre alcho pop fizzy drink of choice. And the red was more sophisticated (ha, who am I kidding?)
Any other long lost drinks that scream big hair and shoulder pads?

A Purple Nasty was a Snakebite with a Pernod and blackcurrant.

munchbunch12 · 14/10/2018 21:28

Loving this thread. does anyone remember the Castaway advert that went 'OOOOOh, AAAAAAAh, away away, Castaway' several times?

BreconBeBuggered · 14/10/2018 21:29

I remember Black Russians being very fashionable at my local student pub - Coke, Tia Maria and maybe vodka? Terrible sophisticated anyway.

Bluetrews25 · 14/10/2018 21:29

Loved half a cider, Taboo and lemonade or Lambrusco bianco light (the low alco version). Gave up on Martini and lemonade after an out of body experience in a restaurant on Valentine's night (I'd only had the one!) Don't drink at all now......
I thought you were going to say you'd found Death By Chocolate in Sainsbos. Very let down I am.

Elisheva · 14/10/2018 21:29

This thread is actually making me feel slightly sick. I can almost smell the pink puke.
DH says that Thunderbirds was a fortified wine, ‘like shit sherry’.

MsRinky · 14/10/2018 21:31

I always have a bottle of Noilly Prat in. Vermouth is underrated.

I had many a fine night on the Blastaways.

LizzieBennettDarcy · 14/10/2018 21:31

I remember going to a party at 17 and begging mum to get me some cider to take. The local shop had shut so she took me to one of the local farms that sold local cider. It was flat, in an industrial sized container and it was absolutely lethal - just tasted like apple juice. Christ knows what %age alcohol it was. Let's just say I've never drunk cider since and am now 48.... even the smell makes me heave Grin

MissCharleyP · 14/10/2018 21:32

TruelyTruelyScrumptious snakebite has never been banned here, despite many rumours. Many landlords refuse to serve it though.

ArcheryAnnie · 14/10/2018 21:35

Light and Bitter, mainly because you got slightly over a pint, for the price of a pint.

/classy

Boyskeepswinging · 14/10/2018 21:38

To me this thread smells of YSL Rive Gauche and JPS.

Cumbrianlass66 · 14/10/2018 21:42

Pernod & Black
Black Russian
Pony & cider sometimes with a pony chaser
Triple vintage cider
Cherry B
Lambrusco or Lambrini?

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 14/10/2018 21:43

I met my DH whilst drinking Blastaways.............. 3 day hangover and a 25 year relationship Wink

We thought Black Tower was the height of sophistication in our house Grin

April2020mom · 14/10/2018 21:45

I remember some of the songs that were popular back then. My parents frequently grew up listening to this band called Dead or Alive on the radio. They used to play some of their music when I was a little girl in the late nineties.

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 14/10/2018 21:48

Diamond Blush was for the laydees. And well classy.

Branleuse · 14/10/2018 21:51

I was hoping you were going to say a global hypercolor Tshirt ;'(

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 14/10/2018 21:53

Archers & lemonade.

I am having a retro vom at the very thought of it now.

butterfly56 · 14/10/2018 21:54

Oooooh Black Russians
Vodka, Tia Maria and Coke in a very tall glass with a straw!
Had to stick to 3 maximum all night(interspersed with straight Coke)
There was that much sugar in them it kept on the dance floor for hours!!! Those were the days...absolutely loved everything about the 80's Grin

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 14/10/2018 21:55

Peach Concorde- that was it! Sold in 1 litre bottles as I recall Grin

Amazon sell Peach Lambrini by the case.

NPAK · 14/10/2018 21:56

Does anyone else remember Volari? Similar to Taboo & Mirage -
if you were a clubber round that time.. ah those were the days.,

Hassled · 14/10/2018 22:01

Diamond White was the reason I once performed "I Can See Clearly Now The Rain Has Gone" at a work outing. It's one of those hideous memories that I will never ever feel OK about. Bastard evil drink.

Babycham, on the other hand was class. Snakebite and Black was somewhat less classy.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 14/10/2018 22:01

Mad dog was later wasn't it? Early 90s. I concur that most people didn't like Mirage and preferred Taboo. I also preferred Taboo but I used to say Mirage was better so that I appeared more exotic. Ffs.

Thunderbird and Peach Concord for the park, Mirage for the casual club, snakebite and black for the goff club.

ClinkyMonkey · 14/10/2018 22:17

Red Witch - cider, Pernod and blackcurrant.
Southern Comfort and ginger ale

Rosieposy4 · 14/10/2018 22:18

I do remember a Pony.
Met my DH Dancing to come on Eileen

binda · 14/10/2018 22:19

Ooh had forgotten about peach Concorde - my tipple of choice on a night in, but going out it had to be Martini Bianco....It had loads of herbs and stuff in it as I recall....

Jux · 14/10/2018 22:21

DH and I were astonished that during the World Cup there were no Cheese Footballs anywhere! How could that happen??!
