How did they get this idea? Was it because someone noticed you only ever see trails in nice sunny weather?

I lived in Hounslow near London Airport (now called Heathrow) in the 1950s and remember counting how many trails we could see at any one time.

As pp mentioned, I think a more common theory is that chemtrails cause illnesses such as cancer. Presumably for big pharma.

The thing is, they aren't even called chemtrails. That's part of the myth too. Contrails - condensation trails, or vapour trails.
