Im currently pregnant with our first baby.

My partner and I have only 1 name we both love and that is Isla, however he's not keen on the spelling..

And also a name to go with Isla as we may double barrel first name
Any suggestions?
Thank you x

It’s spelt Isla so if you don’t like the spelling maybe a different name?

Quite.

@blueberryporridge

Re Isla-Mae - there is an Isle of May on the east coast of Scotland and if your DD heads north of the border, I am pretty sure that a proportion of folk would think you had named her after it! (See also Isla-Skye, Isla-Wight etc as noted by PP...)
Just what I was thinking.

"Her name is pronounced Anne, spelled Maria.... Confused

🤣🤣🤣 What nonsense, liking a name but deciding that the perfectly innocuous (and correct, more to the point!) spelling is a problem to you 🤷🏻‍♀️ Tell him to get a fecking grip.

Really don't get the thinking of 'I like this name but need to create a "unique" spelling of it.

Reminds me of a child I knew of called Aaliviyah. FFS! For goodness sake 0 if you like Olivia, use Olivia!

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 13/07/2021 03:19

iyla

I wouldn't know where to begin pronouncing that!

It looks like ILYA spelled incorrectly, I would definitely imagine it for a boy.

Nicolastuffedone · 13/07/2021 06:58

When you’re saying it, no-one will know you mangled the spelling. She’s still going to be called ‘Isla’ it’s only when it’s written down they’ll know…and then you’ll spend the rest of your life telling everyone how to spell it/pronounce it…your partners is an eejit.

I know an Ailla and and Aela, both accepted spellings in their respective languages.

ChocolateRiver · 13/07/2021 09:04

I once taught an Eilah who said her name in exactly the same way as Isla.

@AamdC Isla St Clair ! I’d forgotten about her. Name works beautifully though 😃
