Different ways to spell Isla?

HelloPeopl3 · 25/09/2018 15:58

Im currently pregnant with our first baby.

My partner and I have only 1 name we both love and that is Isla, however he's not keen on the spelling..

And also a name to go with Isla as we may double barrel first name
Any suggestions?
Thank you x

Just give your poor child the correct spelling and stop being precious about spelling it differently.

Or call your child 'X' Hmm

Musseswoofles · 25/09/2018 18:05

Which would be fine, but the name is derived from Islay. You're all giving OP a hard time for spelling the name the traditional way. It is still correct.

It's Isla. Don't go down the chavvy root of trying to make it different and unique. All you're doing is just spelling it wrong.

A friend with German parents is an Ayla pronounced Isla.

Missedmoments · 25/09/2018 18:19

You can also spell it as IOSLA OP.

Racecardriver · 25/09/2018 18:21

It's pronounced yla? Shock

TulipsInBloom1 · 25/09/2018 18:21

I know an Ayla. Her folks are from Kosovo so maybe its the correct spelling there? Either way Id say Isla or Ayla are acceptable along with whatever spellings normal in other countries.

Spell it Aaeeelagh on the other hand and weve got issues.

Rebecca36 · 25/09/2018 18:21

Eye-lah

What's wrong with Isla? At least everyone will know how to spell it.

TallulahBetty · 25/09/2018 18:23

I know an Ayla. She is always getting called A-La.

Havaina · 25/09/2018 18:25

To be fair, you are always going to have to spell or correct Isla for many people, so spelling it as Ayla or Aiyla, is not going to make much difference.

Eye-laah Grin

I'm pretty sure I've seen it spelt Islah? 🤔 If that's preferable? Or Ayla?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 25/09/2018 18:37

How can your DH like a name but not the way it’s spelt?

Maybe he’d be happy with Eyelarh? After all, he wants to be yooooooonique...

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 25/09/2018 18:37

Arabic spelling is Ailah.

Leeds2 · 25/09/2018 18:42

One of the girls at the school where I volunteer is called Ayla, pronounced Isla. Her family are of Indian origin.

I used to go to school with an Ailsa, pronounced as it is spelt. Unhelpful!

I am not a fan of double barrelled names, but wouldn't have thought Isla needed an extra name anyway. It is quite a strong name on its own. I think it is lovely.

LuckyAmy1986 · 25/09/2018 18:42

Turkish spelling is Ayla, it’s prounounced the same

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 25/09/2018 18:43

Iylah is a little girl at my children’s school x

neverbelong · 25/09/2018 18:44

Aiyla and Ayla are Turkish spellings but it's an entirely different name anyway, different meaning. It's been very very popular the past few years with the Asian and Arabic community even though it's a fairly old Turkish name

Themidnightcircus · 25/09/2018 18:47

I usually spell it tracy.

Mokepon · 25/09/2018 18:47

I know of more than one Islagh. In Scotland though.

MrsAmaretto · 25/09/2018 18:52

Please just use the traditional spelling of Isla.

Wish folk would stop fanning around with the spelling of names, I know a girl called Faith, spelt Phayth. What a total ballache to have to explain.

HuntIdeas · 25/09/2018 18:53

What is it that your husband doesn’t like about the spelling? I take it that you’ve pointed out ‘island’ is spelt the same way?

AamdC · 25/09/2018 18:56

Name to go with Isla,Isla St Clair blast from the past! I saw a baby in a magazine ( i rhink ) With the name Maksymillion Grin

Usuallytootiredbuthappyanyway · 25/09/2018 19:01

I always thought Aisla was a pretty standard spelling apparently not!

Havaina · 25/09/2018 19:01

I know of more than one Islagh. In Scotland though.

Out or Scotland, that may get pronounced as i-slag or is-lag sadly.
