Things you have tried due to MN and failed miserably at?

Am I the only one who has tried some stuff out due to MN threads and it turned out well not good?

Today getting ready I was thinking about a MN thread I read some time ago about drying in the shower or outside the shower. Usually I dry outside however the towel we usually have on the floor has been " replaced" (I am looking at you ds) with a normal towel and it was pretty wet.. So I figured I would try what MN post had suggested and dry inside the shower.

Currently nursing a bruise on left arm where I hit it into the folding door (it folds inwards so actually not a lot of room for drying I found) Ok I think stupid of you not to close the door. So I close the door and manage to scrape my left wrist on the door frame..

I will be drying myself outside the shower in the future.. More room

@exLtEveDallas I'm gonna waste a good bottle of vodka and some chocolate on this next weekend Smile

PrimalLass · 30/09/2018 19:13

I am sorry but why would you get dry outside the shower?

Why dry? Doesn't everyone just do towel round body, towel on head, and wander about for a while not quite making it into clothes?

Enko · 30/09/2018 23:01

no @PrimalLass that makes me freezing cold and I cant warm up after.

I don't dry in the shower as its to restricted and uncomfortable and as I described in OP I am liable to get injured if I do so. IMO its nicer to have the space of the room to dry in, than being restricted to the shower space.

Babyliss big hair kept getting tangled in my long hair which was pretty painful - gave it to my MIL in the end
Oil Cleansing Method was ok but I was too lazy to keep up with it
Microwave cheese sauce is the best tip ever - have passed it on to many friends
Philips Lumea is also fantastic

Titsywoo · 30/09/2018 23:13

Why would you bleach your doors and skirting boards? Confused

FleeBee · 01/10/2018 08:24

I really wanted to like a mooncup thanks to MN. I found it painful to use & it leaked even if not very full so had to wear a pad with it as well. So disappointing

In my case, the gloss goes yellow over time and the bleach turns it all back to white again.

Korean horrible scratchy clothes for keratosis pilaris didn't work for me. Spray mop was one of the best purchases ever :)

Duvet in pillow case didn't work here either, pillow cases too small to stuff a king size duvet set in. Curly girl hair method was a fail.
Microwave cheese sauce sounds like unnecessary faff, but please what is 5 minute microwave jam? And a ninja t-shirt fold?

I need to have a think, there were definitely some more things I discovered and adopted off mumsnet which have improved my life, right now nothing springs to mind 🤔

Titsywoo · 01/10/2018 14:42

Reaa - in that case it's a bloody good idea! I thought you were a mad germophobe but I might try it myself now.

Sgtmajormummy · 01/10/2018 16:54

Here’s the MN jam. It’s actually 5+12 minutes, but anyway...

And the ninja T-shirt fold.Grin

SD1978 · 01/10/2018 18:51

@PrimalLass......yup! Drying is too energetic. I prefer spreading a towel on the bed and reading a book whilst air drying 😂😂😂😂

Sgtmajormummy, thank you! 😘

Of course you should dry off in the shower! Why on earth wouldn't you?
1 - just hang your towel within reach if it's not already in reach, FFS.
2 - all the water pours off you and down the plughole as it's meant to, instead of creating vast soggy lakes on the bathmat and floor (DH I'm looking at youAngry). Surely your houses are damp enough without making it worse!

StrawberryFilter · 02/10/2018 13:43

MN tip from years ago for keratosis pilaris (those little bumps on the skin of your upper arm on the outside) is to use Flexitol heel balm on them for a week or so.

Any heel balm will do the job as long as it has at least 5% (or even better, 10%) urea. Magic Smile

NB: urea is nothing to do with wee. I did not know this at first Blush

I did the MN haircut for a while when I was skint. It was OK for getting rid of split ends and giving my longish, slightly wavy hair a bit of shape. It’s no substitute for a proper hair cut but needs must. Don’t cut too much off in one go.

Getting rid of the toilet brush, bought a new one 6 months later
Dishwasher tabs and bicarbonate of soda just made a mess and didn’t make any difference to the oven

I’ve had way more successes than fails though.

exWifebeginsat40 · 02/10/2018 14:47

i love zoflora but then as a child i was partial to a dettol bath so i have form.

footner did nothing for my hooves. nothing.

but! cleaning the oven glass with a dishwasher tab is a game-changer. you need a towel on the floor, and a little dish of warm water. dip the tab, rub the glass, repeat in growing wonderment until your oven door is like a magic mirror.

(i did do this for the first time in the depths of a bad episode of my OCD, [the famed: The One Where I Went Mental And Cleaned The Oven For Five Days Straight] but it’s one that still pleases me even when less unwell!)

Freshprincess · 02/10/2018 18:22

ExWife - my mum used to make us have occasional Dettol baths when we were kids. No idea why.

I've never had issues with making cheese sauce but tried today with the microwave and I was impressed!
