Things you have tried due to MN and failed miserably at?

Am I the only one who has tried some stuff out due to MN threads and it turned out well not good?

Today getting ready I was thinking about a MN thread I read some time ago about drying in the shower or outside the shower. Usually I dry outside however the towel we usually have on the floor has been " replaced" (I am looking at you ds) with a normal towel and it was pretty wet.. So I figured I would try what MN post had suggested and dry inside the shower.

Currently nursing a bruise on left arm where I hit it into the folding door (it folds inwards so actually not a lot of room for drying I found) Ok I think stupid of you not to close the door. So I close the door and manage to scrape my left wrist on the door frame..

I will be drying myself outside the shower in the future.. More room

Oh coconut oil. I was assured I would use it for everything. I still have an almost full tub and hvve used it for almost nothing.

friendlyflicka · 24/09/2018 21:26

MyChemicalMummy · 24/09/2018 21:35

Mumsnet haircut - bloody awful
Oil cleaning - made me a greaseball
Dishwasher tab to clean oven- no
Zoflora - yuk
Big hair - languishing in a drawer
Rosehip oil - did nothing

But cheese sauce in microwave is a total game changer

Namechange8471 · 25/09/2018 08:12

Zoflora! The smell made me physically ill, never again!

Xiaoxiong · 25/09/2018 09:16

I have never tried the haircut but the last time I went to the hair salon, the stylist did it to me (unprompted) and it looked amazing so I am really really tempted to try it at home now.

I can't reliably do the fitted sheet fold. I do the first two corners and then half the time it is twisted up! But other times it works perfectly for no apparent reason, so I keep trying...

Oil cleansing didn't work for me at all, spots everywhere after a few days.

I'd love to try a Big hair though. Had loads of good product recommendations, the Lumea has done wonders, I regularly get 3 meals out of a chicken, I had a MN scarf for years until I left it on a train. So not all bad Grin

AamdC · 25/09/2018 09:23

I do the mumsnet hair cut but i have very wavy/curly hair so i cam get away with it! Not keen on zoflora at all

TillyVonMilly · 25/09/2018 09:25

I did ok with the hair cut, actually cut it a few times but the curly girl method Shock I looked like I’d just smeared vaseline over my hair.

Iooselipssinkships · 25/09/2018 09:30

Will happily take babyliss big hair off hands. I need all the help I can get.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 25/09/2018 09:31

I am sorry but why would you get dry outside the shower? Do people do that? I have always dried myself whilst in the cubicle and then got out. Surely you are otherwise very wet and cold.

cakesonatrain · 25/09/2018 09:45

Oh I did the haircut once and it looked fabulous.
Then I did it again and got all brave and went quite a bit shorter. MULLET!!!!
Had to get emergency Sunday hairdresser appointment at Toni and Guy (only place open) and explain to them what I'd done...Blush

Babykoala1 · 25/09/2018 09:56

I tried using liquid gold once which everyone in style and beauty raves about - I had a massive allergic reaction and my face was blotchy for days. If mumsnet had its way I'd have my hair cut into a bob but I know I'd end up looking like Lord Farquaad.
Oh and don't even get me started on Zoflora 🙄

serbska · 25/09/2018 09:59

Do you remember the making flavoured vodka in the dishwasher phase?

To be fair the worthers original toffee DW vodka is amazing.

serbska · 25/09/2018 10:00

The only thing that sound ever be recommended for cleaning ovens is oven pride. Magic stuff.

PerkingFaintly · 25/09/2018 10:02

Ah, I've been contemplating trying the MN haircut for my thin, flyaway hair.

P'raps not, then?

PerkingFaintly · 25/09/2018 10:03

But cheese sauce in the microwave. Oh yes. Life changing.

GoodbyeSummer · 25/09/2018 10:04

mostdays · 25/09/2018 10:12

Tinkly laughs with a head tilt. I just can't carry that off, I look creepy and demented.

The mumsnet haircut (if I'm right in thinking it's the ponytail at the front of your head and then snip one) I did for years before I was on mn- god knows where I saw it first. It always worked v well for me, but I think that's because I have masses of hair which is naturally wavy/ curly.

VanillaSugary · 25/09/2018 10:15

I'm loving this thread. Did anyone wrap a piece of salmon in tin foil and put it through the dishwasher? Or was that Alice Beer on This Morning ?

SilverySurfer · 25/09/2018 11:08

Zoflora - vile - can only imagine people who rave over it have a different sense of smell to me.

Slow cooker - recommended a lot on MN - I hated the smell, taste and texture of everything I tried cooking in it.

Bicarb for cleaning the oven - fail.

A strawberry jam recipe from an MN video - exploded in microwave and stuck firmly to every surface with which it came into contact. Took forever to clean.

Elephantinacravat · 25/09/2018 11:13

I used to do the MN haircut regularly, but I think it's really only for if you have long hair and just want to give it a trim. It's too risky to do as an actual restyle, too much risk of ending up looking like Cadfael.
