If you were going to buy your first pair of Doc Martins and you were almost 40

Which pair would you choose?

I’m lusting after these www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/p/11822207 in green but my sensible head is saying that I should get them in brown as they would go with everything I’m likely to wear them with and would be easier to look after.

Decisions!

Buy the ones your heart wants! I'm 46 and my docs are patent red with rainbow laces and I love them

MVLipwig · 23/09/2018 22:01

The good thing about docs is they generally don’t have to ‘go’ to look amazing. So I’d go green!

PersonalClown · 23/09/2018 22:01

Have which ever ones you want!
I'm 40 this year and I have some lovely sepia coloured tattoo design ones.
And high heeled ones. Calf length ones. Fur lined ones.

Have all the shoes!!

I love these and I'm so tempted

bluetrampolines · 23/09/2018 22:02

Which 20 something are you interested in approval from?

light hearted. I'm more than 40 an feel your pain.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 23/09/2018 22:03

go for the ones you really love, you'll regret it otherwise

Methe · 23/09/2018 22:04

Ooooo Purple DMs!

I’d suggest the pull on ones if you’ve never doc’d before as those lace ups aren’t going to be your friend in a rush.

I love them all (and have many) but my pull on Kensington burgundy’s are my faves these days.

Methe · 23/09/2018 22:16

The pull on ones remind me of the safety boots I have to wear at work unfortunately :(

I thought the softer leather ones weren’t supposed to be as torturous to break in?

Imagine they are the last pair of boots you were to buy? Buy your favourite!

Galvantula · 23/09/2018 22:33

I got these nylon ones and they've not required any breaking in. Nice and light too. Still wish I didn't chuck out my original pair... I'm sure there was still some life in them..Grin

Definitely get the ones you want though.... They'll break in nicely after a bit. I don't remember mine being too bad. in 1993

fishfingersandketchup · 23/09/2018 22:36

OMG Rea a those purple boots are amazing! One day I shall own purple boots. My 45 yr old DH has just bought himself some brown DMs for work, he wears smart casual for the office and they look great.

StoorieHoose · 23/09/2018 22:37

I had green docs when I was 22 and they were my most favourite pair ever! Now I stick to brown black and cherry red but DD has gorgeous patent red ones

I really want a pair of 14 holers but fear that I might be past the acceptable age for wearing them with skinny jeans! Either that or I’ll love them so much I’ll get a Fred Perry polo shirt and cut my hair like Lol out of This is England

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/09/2018 22:41

I’m 44 and I’m hankering after these new order album cover or these joy division album cover. I love them so much Blush

CherryMaraschino · 23/09/2018 22:43

The green are amazing. I've just bought my first ever pair of Docs, a decade after my mother banned me from having a pair to go to university.

I love them, have been wearing them constantly and am probably going to have bought a pair of the Chelsea boots by this time next week...

CherryMaraschino · 23/09/2018 22:43

Oh incidentally, mine are black pascals – nice and soft, not needed much wearing in at all.

wheresmyhairytoe · 23/09/2018 22:45

OMG those purple ones 😍

ALittleBitofVitriol · 23/09/2018 22:53

I always wanted Cherry docs. I got a black pair, they go with everything and I wear them with everything, they look awesome with skirts/dresses. They've lasted nearly 10 years and I could use a new pair. I have weddings to attend in a few months... ponders styling a wedding outfit solely to justify buying new docs

bluetrampolines · 23/09/2018 22:53

Yes. The purple ones. Definitely.

wheresmyhairytoe · 23/09/2018 22:55

I have cherry ones which I love.

ChishandFips33 · 23/09/2018 23:00

I bought brown for my first pair

Then cherry

Then purple (I wanted purple first but brown and cherry go with more of my wardrobe)

Buy the green - it'll be cheaper in the long run!

One pair of boots does not have to fulfil every role Grin I only wear my purple ones once in a blue moon but I have no regrets

TheRealMrsSmith · 23/09/2018 23:11

I got my first pair of Docs just before I turned 39. I had the cherry red ones but I'm lusting after another pair. I wear mine with whatever skirts, dresses, leggings or jeans. Go for it, you won't regret it!

ichifanny · 23/09/2018 23:42

Get pascals far softer and easier to wear in

CrazyCatLady13 · 24/09/2018 06:53

I wear DM lace up safety shoes at work, my company paid for them! Really comfy. Would love some boots though.

NotANotMan · 24/09/2018 06:56

Definitely the ones you love. I have two pairs both floral and they don't 'go' but I love them.
