Just wondering what some people are like really. Whether different or the same as they come across.

Interesting question.

I have a relative who is in politics, and often vilified by one side or the other. A lovelier person with such a heart of gold you would be hard pressed to find.

Chocolatecake12 · 21/09/2018 20:10

Yes I know a lady who is really lovely and quite well liked on tv too. She’s just one of the group when we’re all together.

RedPencil · 21/09/2018 20:10

I do often wonder what politicians are like behind closed doors, @CormoranStrike. Also, fab username, I just finished Lethal White half an hour ago!

Yes. A couple of people famous in a particular music scene. Have a completely different stage persona. We sometimes meet for a few drinks near the venues they'll be performing at and they rarely get recognised.

CormoranStrike · 21/09/2018 20:13

Thanks. I love this name too; I’m reading something else right now, but will start Lethal White over the weekend.

I don’t know many other politicians, but I would imagine they would leave their hectoring and haranguing voices in the office.

Used to go to a gym with a famous pop star, no clue for months, couldn't have met a nicer guy. Very funny too.

Bardwell · 21/09/2018 20:14

An Irish actor. I have seen almost none of his films so have no idea whether he resembles his onscreen personae or not.

I’m good friends with someone very well known, although more so a few years ago. She’s no different to any of my other friends, weird seeing her on TV though, like it’s not the same person.
Also walk my dogs sometimes with an older, back in the day TV presenter. He loves being recognised out and about Grin

Lindah1 · 21/09/2018 20:15

Names Names Names!!!!Grin

Violetparis · 21/09/2018 20:16

Can we have some clues especially on who the politician is ?

sadnessin · 21/09/2018 20:17

I'm friends with a pop star who was very popular in the early 2010s/late noughties.

She's very very anxious and was v sheltered for a long time. For example she had never had to go to a shop to buy her own sanpro so now she does it she is really embarrassed about it!

She's a LOVELY woman though

MaisyMary77 · 21/09/2018 20:17

My godfather was a very well known author. I remember when I first found out he was famous I was very disappointed that he didn’t walk around with a top hat, cloak and twirling moustache... (no idea why I thought he should)
He was a lovely guy, very humble about his work and his front door was always open to visitors. He died a long time ago but I’ll always miss him.

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 21/09/2018 20:17

Can't imagine we'd still be friends if I started gossiping or name dropping on'tinternet. Wink

RedPencil · 21/09/2018 20:18

The best I have is someone I went to uni with who was on reality tv - he is a TAD annoying on instagram ...Confused

Yes, I’m best friends with a v famous hollywood producer. He’s the same as he was 30 years ago when he was an unknown. The only difference now is that we have to eat at more discreet restaurants so he doesn’t get hassled by actors who want to curry favour.

Bardwell · 21/09/2018 20:21

I don't think anyone's going to risk a genuine friendship by splashing their friendships with the famous over an internet forum notorious for being used for Daily Heil fodder.

It's a bit different to those 'Ian McKellen stole my taxi' or 'I once got stuck in a lift with Dylan Moran' stories.

Lndnmummy · 21/09/2018 20:21

I’m friends with an actress who is in a british crime series. She is lovely and down to earth.

CormoranStrike · 21/09/2018 20:22

I’m not naming my politico relative’s name, as it will then descend into “they’re good/bad/devil incarnate” and there’s enough of that on twitter!

Hazardswan · 21/09/2018 20:23

Thanking you!

Oh and I know no one famous directly but I do know a bragging mother of a tv presenter. She brags out of pride it's adorable.

Crystalblue13 · 21/09/2018 20:23

Not that famous but I went to school with someone off Geordie shore

Madeiramosaic · 21/09/2018 20:25

One of my friends is a politician, and my cousin was on TV yesterday though that’s an infrequent thing.
I work with someone who was a pop star!

kenandbarbie · 21/09/2018 20:25

Jealous. I don't know anyone famous.

Clawdy · 21/09/2018 20:26

My little sis was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize a few years ago. She didn't win Sad

AgentProvocateur · 21/09/2018 20:28

@clawdy, that’s impressive. I’ve probably read her book. Are you willing to say what it was?

Bardwell · 21/09/2018 20:28

But I bet even the shortlisting bumped her sales, Clawdy. Envy Grin
