Just wondering what some people are like really. Whether different or the same as they come across.

Yep. News presenter. Completely ditzy and just one of us in real life

CormoranStrike · 21/09/2018 21:46

@echobelly - trains?

Charolais · 21/09/2018 21:46

I knew a lot of politicians such as state legislators, congressmen, U.S. Senators and State Governors. In person they all came across pretty much as they did on TV except for one Governor who was much nicer in person. He was kind and humble but was often painted much differently by the media. He died some years ago and I'd honestly say he was one of the nicest people I have ever known.

Hillary Clinton attempts to portray herself in public much differently than she actually is in real life. I found her as first lady to be driven, hard and cold. During the short time I knew her she did something very dishonest to us personally. Treacherous. America dodge a bullet.

Mrskeats · 21/09/2018 21:55

I’ve not give any details.

LydiaLunch7 · 21/09/2018 21:58

I went to school with a boy who is now a famous producer/musician (he has worked with the biggest names you can imagine in music). He was just a normal guy really. Quite shy and nerdy.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 21/09/2018 21:59

My cousin was a regular face on a daytime BBC docusoap in the early 2000s. She came across on TV pretty much how she actually is.

One of the presenters from the show is now more famous for sports broadcasting. They are still friends and Ms Sports Reporter is lovely.

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 21/09/2018 22:01

A few. Obviously not going to say who they are so I don't know what the point in replying is. Grin

onefootinthegrave · 21/09/2018 22:02

Someone in the longest running UK TV soap, been in it I think for about 20 years now. Very down to earth and kind.

Bloodybridget · 21/09/2018 22:04

A friend of many years who is a famous novelist. As nice IRL as she comes across in interviews etc.

Going off thread here but I’ve just bought Lethal White today in hardback....I can hardly lift it! Can’t wait to start it....hope I’m not going to be disappointed.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 21/09/2018 22:06

Which is he then warthog?

He’s so dorky and cute though!

or

a couple cunt (I assume you mean "complete, not "couple"

He can't be both. That was a foul thing he did.

LydiaLunch7 · 21/09/2018 22:07

SchadenfreudePersonified

I think you missed the sarcasm when she said "he's so dorky and cute though"

Giggorata · 21/09/2018 22:08

My parents were good friends with an actor from a long running TV series, who was a household name in those days, even had a catchphrase, although I don't think the term was used then.
A friend went out with the son of an actor from Dad's Army, and we sometimes saw him when we went to his house.
Another friend's niece was a Bond girl and has since been in numerous other films.
I am friends with a few writers in a niche area, so not that famous, unless you're into the same sort of thing.

maddjess · 21/09/2018 22:15

Warthong your a teenager too right?

CutesyUserName · 21/09/2018 22:17

Lots in the music industry. Most of them are lovely, if a bit bats and most are very ego-driven. One or two have completely contrasting private lives compared to public perception. There is only one that I really don't like. He's one of the only people I know that gives me the creeps when I talk to him and I always feel relieved when he's gone.

LemonysSnicket · 21/09/2018 22:17

I went to school with someone in emmerdale if that helps?

LemonysSnicket · 21/09/2018 22:17

Counts not helps

LemonysSnicket · 21/09/2018 22:18

Oh and a friend starred in a reality show on C4!

Taffeta · 21/09/2018 22:19

My parents have a few famous friends

Some acquaintances some better friends

Very well known TV presenters

Almondio · 21/09/2018 22:19

I have a good friend who's a high profile politician, have known her since we studied together at university and she's still the same old friend, just a bit busier. I used to work in TV so know lots of presenters. All human, just normal, doing a job and trying to live a quiet life.

happyhappycarcar · 21/09/2018 22:20

I was friends with some when at school sixth form who was at another school. We stayed it touch and I visited him at uni etc. He then become a famous musician ( but I was obviously shut in a cupboard, as I didn't know and we'd lost touch for those years . Pre mobiles etc)

He turned up about 10 years later wanting to meet up. Befriended me on Facebook etc. He was so different, it had really gone to his head. He spent a lot of his time living in LA and had perfected an extremely exaggerated posh England accent. He commented that I didn't speak very well these days and he didn't remember me being so common. He didn't mean it in a hurtful way, he still seems a nice guy. But he is not famous now and desperately craves it.

My now not so famous musician friend has in my opinion done somethings like be in a porno that I would not of done. But he openly brags about it and seems to pretend to be bi-sexual etc for attention. He is an extremely clever person and I feel sad he acts these ways. He seems to very much need to have people worship him and is still pedalling out the same music he got rich from. He has made money and his music was brilliant but he hasn't done anything with his talent since. It actually makes me sad and puts me off him. To see him settle down would be lovely but he thinks he's still at 20 year old.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/09/2018 22:21

An historical relative was a very famous landscape painter

And I'd hardly call this famous but I've been on TV twice myself (documentary series about a particular interest)

GreenMeerkat · 21/09/2018 22:22

I think Warthog means the boyfriend she had as a teenager. Now no longer teenagers and he is now famous.
