Anyone still here who joined in 2006 or earlier?

Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

Yes me. I joined in 2004. I’ve been through several name changes since then, and various stages of lurking so I’ve never been a big name. But I remember the old days and the old posters quite clearly Grin

ProfYaffle · 20/09/2018 07:57

I joined in 2005 - on dial up and no wireless! Had to sneak onto the desktop when dd1 had a nap.

The Judge Flounce/wig and robe fiasco kicked off shortly after which was actually useful for me as an internet ingenue, taught me that not everyone is who they say they are.

ShowOfHands · 20/09/2018 07:58

I won the Halloween name change comp two years in a row. I won a Cath Kidston bag! Used to love the often v clever seasonal namechanges.

See, I don't agree that people now want to cause arguments more than back then. Back then you didn't cause arguments because you let the Head Girls rule their roost. Nobody had the temerity to try and tell them to stop being so damn exclusive.

Upside is, as I said, you could also tell somebody they were being an U twat if they were and you didn't immediately get the "MN calling" email telling you off and get deleted.

Now, the OP's socks appear to say how horrid everyone is being and you get deleted. AIBU is like an echo chamber.

Beanfield · 20/09/2018 07:59

2003 with many name changes. And days were wasted with the message in a bottle thing.
I did a big flounce when mnhq introduced the Facebook linky thing but got bored with real life so sneaked back.

FabulousTomatoes · 20/09/2018 07:59

I remember you, ShowofHands. It was nice to see your name come up on your recent thread about your dd. Hope your decision is becoming easier!

Beanfield · 20/09/2018 08:00

And I won the Christmas namechange competition one year Grin

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 20/09/2018 08:00

With your bloody stumps? Grin

I won a plastic pig toy thing. In a teacup or something. Very odd.

I got quote of the week for saying how when you're pregnant you get so used to getting your foof out, the dentist has to stop you from shrugging your pants off the minute he calls your name.

FabulousTomatoes · 20/09/2018 08:00

Ah yes, JudgeFlounce. And I haven’t rtwft but has anyone mentioned Lavendarrrr yet? Grin

LittleBookofCalm · 20/09/2018 08:01

yup, 2006 here, though sometimes I wish it had never happened

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 20/09/2018 08:02

And I was quoted just once in MP's round-up about my do-it-yourself-hysterectomy trying to get my mooncup out.

Loved her round-up and would keep refreshing my inbox on a Friday till it arrived.

LittleBookofCalm · 20/09/2018 08:06

ask me tomorrow and i might be more gracious

0rlaith · 20/09/2018 08:09

Who was the lovely woman who lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere - was it Scotland? She was fabulous, I loved reading her posts

That was gentleotter.

TheLastNigel · 20/09/2018 08:10

I've been her since late 2005 with lots of name changes...
I hate to think how many hours of my life I've wasted on here!

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 20/09/2018 08:14

I’ve been here since about 2006. Many of my closest friends are people I met through here, which then grew into FB and then real life.

I used to go to all the Xmas meet ups, and was a prolific poster (I’ve been mentioned upthread) and omg I posted so much detail about my life.

Had everything deleted and now NC fairly frequently and don’t post much. It’s not the same here anymore, it’s still a valuable resource but it used to be a cosy place where you knew people. Dangerous really as it’s open to the whole world and coziness made you feel you could post anything about yourself.

BeachyUmbrella · 20/09/2018 08:16

Been here since 2000....
I remember the first summer, someone offered a field and everyone was going to go and meet up... I was so tempted, but I'd just had a baby and dh thought I was mad!

There was a poster who told us what was on the telly that night, every day 😀😀

OvO · 20/09/2018 08:17

I joined in 2006.

It was very cliquey back then. Was a bit off putting to start, like trying to pal up with the cool kids. But if you stuck around you found out most people were great.

I'm not sure how different it is nowadays to how I remember. I remember liking it much more even just 5 years ago. It might be me that's changed rather than MN? How many of the same threads can you read before you get fed up? How many times can you roll your eyes at idiots before you realise that there's a never ending stream of them and it's a losing battle?

But there's nowhere better to go so I'm still here. You nest of vipers are still funnier and wittier and smarter and more supportive than 99% of the internet!

CoraPirbright · 20/09/2018 08:19

Me! Have been here since 2004 with a few name changes along the way. It was kinder then and funnier too. Also not so boringly pc - you didn’t have to literally count the seconds before someone popped up trying to explain bad behaviour as a result of MH.

Posters I recall - Anyfucker, TrillianAstra, Pannda and, of course, the stupendous BupcakesandCunting. Aah good times - goodness only knows how much time I have spent on here Blush

I cried when I heard about CatthiefKeith. Silly, isnt it? A total stranger on the internet but it was just so so sad Sad.

DoryNow · 20/09/2018 08:21

I reckon it must be about 2003 as I was here for the SWMNBN whoo-ha, as my kids were past baby stage I ended up hiding all those threads as I was seeking on primary age problems.Grin

All the names listed above are so familiar. I used to read threads snorting with laughter & the kids , then teens would roll their eyes & ask me to read them out. Often I couldn't - I miss those brilliantly wacky threads.

There was one recently about a poster called Tomas looking for luuurrrve. It was so funny it took me back, can be far too serious these days, we need more wackiness. Grin

stabbybitch · 20/09/2018 08:29

I came in 2009/10 when another forum closed. I loved that I could swear in here and nobody gave a shit! I remember it being pretty cliquey but really nurturing at the same time. Everybody knew each other and seemed to care more than they do now.

Fiderer · 20/09/2018 08:36
  1. Joined when I came across MN while searching for highchairs that weren't the standard wooden German ones with annoying buckle straps and gunge retaining corners.

She's now 16 and seeing the mess she frequently makes in the kitchen it occurs to me that having her strapped in somewhere would be a good thing.

Catastic · 20/09/2018 08:42

@BookMeOnTheSudExpress that is a mighty impressive former inbox you have/had there.

In my former inbox (sadly deleted after the hacking) I had a thank you message from AnyFucker. I wish I'd thought to screenshot it.

I also feel Zombie deserves a mention on this thread Flowers Flowers Flowers.

InflagranteDelicto · 20/09/2018 08:43

Can't remember when I joined, probably 2007. No later, as it was before Dd2 was born.

Attila is one who I will always remember. Used to post a lot on a thread for the partners of addicts, and those ladies saved all our lives. I think about them now and again, and hope they too improved their lives.

Loads of names mentioned that I remember, Mamazon, Riven, Valhalla, Whomoved... The cvq saga- I did not see that coming. FAQ too, hope she's well. Gosh, I'm all nostalgic. Remember recommending mn to a friend who was struggling with bf, she said TikTok saved her sanity. She went on to successfully feed her ds, and subsequent DC which was fab with the crap advice she was being pressured with

Ginslinger · 20/09/2018 08:50

can't remember when exactly I joined but it was around Moldie time. I remember DuchessofNorks, VictorianSqualor, and Reality and Custardo. Lots of very wise, witty women
