Anyone still here who joined in 2006 or earlier?

Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

I think I joined in October 2006

exLtEveDallas · 20/09/2018 06:30

I first joined in 2004, pg and lonely, stuck overseas. Got into a bunfight and flounced. Then rejoined after I'd had DD in 2005 and was back in the UK.

When I came back I made the cardinal sin of having a username almost identical to another (completely by accident) and found myself on a "someone has the same name as me, should I ask them to change?" thread.... I changed before I was asked.

They don't happen now, the site is too big.

I changed again in 2008 and have been Eve in some way ever since. I preferred it when I 'knew' who I was talking to, when namechanging wasn't such a thing. Yeah sure it was cliquey, but i still think it was better. I miss a lot of the oldies and that's probably why I don't post much any more. Well, one of the reasons anyhow...

God, when I think of how much time I used to spend on here...

2005 and I LoveBeing...here.

I miss recognising people. The funny threads all already listed. Those were the days when you were taught how to insult someone without getting banned and no biscuits.

No one was ever asked if they were on glue!

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about this subject:

2004 I think.

I have practically no memory for names, faces or threads, so can't remember much.

I think I went to at least 2 if not 3 Christmas meet ups as well. Everyone was perfectly lovely, but I now couldn't tell you their names, or recognise them.

I was never one of the 'in crowd' and am now quite ashamed at how desperate I was, plus some other stuff I did, like just selling flights cot. Really awful.

I was very supported by CarGirl. And the SN boards. I will always be truely grateful for both.

Mn feels too big and too impersonal now. Saying that I post more than I ever did, so I'm not sure of that logic!

I joined maybe around 2007-9ish, can't remember exactly when. Love this thread - I remember so many of the names mentioned. I hung out in Relationships for the most part initially. It was a godsend.

I still can't figure out how to change my name. The one I have is a typo.

Sheesh...

Twinkie1 · 20/09/2018 07:14

DD is just off to Uni, I joined when she was 2.

Remember Cod, Prufrock, Blu, Janstar, Dinosaur and meet ups for Pizza at Pizza Pomadoro and a big London meet up once.

Twinkie1 · 20/09/2018 07:15

Oh and Nutty and the tosser who was Dadslib.

Summer 2006

MirandaWest · 20/09/2018 07:19

I’ve been here since early 2004. Things have changed a bit as have my children and my own situation has changed a bit too.

Whatsallthisaboutthen · 20/09/2018 07:22

I’ve been here since 2008 I think (loads of name changes). Tiktok saved my mental health re breastfeeding when DD was born. I’ll always be grateful to her.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 20/09/2018 07:35

Two of the people mentioned here were my Christmas present recipients.

One of them put a really arsey message on the thank you thread asking why I hadn't sent anything for her son. Hmm (that would be because I hadn't been told there was one)

It was more fun back then (I joined in late 2003) but you had to be careful who you went up against, and the in-jokes and callouts must have been very offputting for new posters.

That stopped a bit after Moldies, but there were still a shitload of posters who thought they ruled the roost.

Now the site is so big, you don't get that anymore. It is generally kinder I think, but it's fake kindness, in the sense that you're not allowed anymore to tell someone they're being a twat even if they are.

I wish I had my old account still (have de-regged several times) as I had inbox messages from Beesimo.

Moondog

ShowOfHands · 20/09/2018 07:41

I've been here 15 or 16 years.

I remember mangoes and tablecloths, red rugs, Judge Flounce, PinkPeter, the Bounty Invasion, Mouldies, IPOATs, Nobdies, quiche, favourite posters etc

Mears, Cod, Pinot, Chaos, Hunker, Rhubarb, Custardo, Twig, DG, Mars, Lulu, ggglimpopo, llareggub, Boris, Rusty, Hully etc.

It was smaller and genuine and could be so kind. And laugh out loud funny. And heart breaking.

I'm not sure why I still post. I think I'm limping to the end now where nobody knows me and I am baffled by AIBU and remember when all round here was nowt but fields.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 20/09/2018 07:41

Moondog taught my dd to read! Virtually, of course. She was great.

Connebert · 20/09/2018 07:44

Moondog‘s example and attitude to life has helped loads of posters 😀😀

Polgara2 · 20/09/2018 07:45

2004 here. Was and still am really more of a lurker. Was too scared to post at first - everyone seemed to know everyone else! Did seem to be a friendlier place though. Miss seeing all those old names.

Connebert · 20/09/2018 07:45

I probably wouldn‘t be doing what I‘m doing now if it wasn‘t for her!

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 20/09/2018 07:46

Polgara- I think I may have had you on FB a million years ago! There was an afternoon and a load of us all friended each other on FB. Does that ring a bell? Can you imagine it happening now! They'd all be pervs and trolls.

ShowOfHands · 20/09/2018 07:50

Lulumama is the reason I survived birth trauma intact. TikTok saved my bfing relationship. In 2007, my antenatal and postnatal chums probably saved my sanity.

People had nicknames too. The fishy one (I remember when she was edgar), Gerrof, Hinker, BALD etc. That doesn't happen now. Occasionally, a poster remembers my proper name and it makes me inordinately happy.

namechanger86 · 20/09/2018 07:52

I joined in 2008 and I feel a bit like an oldie. The site has changed massively since then, and I hardly post now as a result.
I remember when I first joined the humour and support was amazing.
Now everyone just seems to want to cause an argument.
I miss the old days

hippipotamiwantstoloseapound · 20/09/2018 07:54

Yes, me! I think I joined in 2006 (or was it 2004 - it was during the SWMNBN debacle) so still consider myself a relative newbie.
Mumsnet made me laugh and cry. It was an enormous help full of witty and intelligent posters.
I have been lucky to meet two in real life, one became a friend (and has sadly since passed away).
I remember many of the prolific posters mentioned earlier.
And YES, I still read UP the page :)

hippipotamiwantstoloseapound · 20/09/2018 07:55

Pink Peter and Mile for Maud showed MN at its finest in those days.
