Anyone still here who joined in 2006 or earlier?

Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

I've been here forever, I was on handbag and bad Mums before. I remember the message in a bottle, Riven, Cod's spelling, creepy wee brackets. Was it Mohse who went waterski-ing and left her twins in SCBU (yeah, right)?

TinyRick · 20/09/2018 02:06

2007 for me.

I remember all these names.

HerRoyalNotness · 20/09/2018 02:15

I’m from 2007. I don’t post much. I did manage to annoy Cod with a name change. It was just a misunderstanding and was supposed to be the opposite of how she posted. Ie I will spell words and include enough words to make an understandable sentence. The opposite of how cod posted. Ah well. I did enjoy trying to work out what she was on about.

I often think of riven and her wee girl.

Secretwitch creepy wee brackets Grin

I did think she was a great character though. I miss her being a cunt to everyone Grin

TanteRose · 20/09/2018 02:51

Oh I used the love the message in a bottle game!
I’ve had the same username since joining in 2006/7 but in a different time zone so often missed all the action.
LivingOverseas board was always fun coz there weren’t so many of us

BoiledFrog · 20/09/2018 02:57

I think I joined or at least started reading in 2002/2003 when I was pg/gave birth to dd. The first threads I remember reading were about piercing babies ears, and a sad thread about a lady whose house was a bit unruly, she had a social worker coming to visit that day, but was obviously depressed and couldn't motivate herself to tidy up.

The replies were really harsh (nothing changes).

BoiledFrog · 20/09/2018 03:02

Did opheliarose have a thread to do with a washing machine? Or am I going mental. I remember cvq and pouffe of poo

BoiledFrog · 20/09/2018 03:05

Wasn't there a woman who got into bed with somebody and their husband? She was visiting or something?

Rockbird · 20/09/2018 03:14

Joined properly in 2007 under my real name. Got some amazing support and advice with dd1. And have a photo of her eating* a trifle in solidarity with OJ's husband.

*she was only posing as she was too young to eat trifle. And it was shop-bought HmmGrin

I name change a lot and can't remember when I got here, probably mid 2000s. I remember everyone would write 'bookmarking until WWIFN gets here' on the Relationships thread. She was the Relationships guru but I think she flounced?
There was a lot of flouncing.

I remember Dittany and her excellent, excellent posts. Come back Dittany!

I also remember a thread a married poster started about how she had been out the night before and kissed a man at a club. Someone pointed out that her kid's pictures were in her profile and she should probably name change. Another poster called her chavvy and it all went downhill from there...

This was one of my favourite thread of all time. I'm hesitant to post it as I don't want MNHQ to delete it. It would never stand nowadays: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/900801-Colic-cure-what-works-is-DENTINOX

Catastic · 20/09/2018 03:31

Oh I also remember Shiney. She seemed to have a cult following. What was that all about?

GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 20/09/2018 03:40

I joined early 2000s I think, I was a nanny who just wanted some advice and to chat really. I used to start pretty much every reply with 'well I'm just a nanny, not a parent' even when that was irrelevant, in case I got found out and thrown off the site. I did leave completely for a couple of years, there used to be a staffroom thread in the single nanny/childminder/etc board and I said hi a couple of times and was ignored, then I got a message saying actually this is just for childminders not nannies so please don't post again, which was pretty rough. Now I'm here a lot as since then I lost my career and my health, and I've yet to find another forum as active, when you are on your own just existing all day it's nice to have some human contact.

Catastic · 20/09/2018 03:40

And the bunfight over Ms v Mrs.

watfordmummy · 20/09/2018 03:41

I joined in about 2001 when I moved down south from Edinburgh from funnily enough Watford. MN has been my saviour and I think my most touching moment was when I announced DS2 birth in here and had pages and pages of welcome messages for him.

I was on the original MN tv prog with Justine and have been to meet ups and trialled products.

I remember one Christmas about 2004 there was a Mner whose hubby was having an affair and it all played out. She left him I think I remember.

Love MN don't think I would've survived motherhood without it.

Catastic · 20/09/2018 03:42

Waves to Goldilocks. Sounds like you've had a rough time Flowers.

Partridgeamongstthepigeons · 20/09/2018 03:48

Joined around 2005. Have had 3 user names. As I have a disabled DS (now 15) I had many conversations with Pagwatch and Riven. Became friends with Riven on FB before the media event happened but then she left FB too. Still think of her often and hope she and her DD are ok x

GoldenMcOldie · 20/09/2018 04:03

Old timer with a new name. I joined in 2001 (I think it was September). Ladytophamhatt - still sort of keep in touch.

Peridot1 · 20/09/2018 04:30

I have been around for years although name changed recently. First thread I really remember was Thomcat telling her DH she was pg.

Went to the meet up just before Mouldies imploded. Lived overseas and was in London for the weekend Christmas shopping so went along and met some lovely people.

Nice to see lots of old names posting.

BedtimeTea · 20/09/2018 04:52

I was here since around that time, though I name change regularly.

@Trishtashtosh That was the penguin thread, hilarous

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 20/09/2018 05:18

I came here when I got kicked off ivillage for swearing or something. I vaguely remember bad mum's too. Was that based on a book?

Does anyone remember bounty debates board from around mid 2000s?

What's the mouldies thing? I feel like I should know what that is, but mind is blank.

Devilishpyjamas · 20/09/2018 05:36

First post 2001. Started posting regularly in 2002.

Devilishpyjamas · 20/09/2018 05:48

@Davros ! Where do you hang out on here now? I go through phases of posting but never see you. I was thinking about you the other day & was thinking I should dig out your email & see how things are going

triptrapdollydumpling · 20/09/2018 05:49

I lurked for many, many years before joining. There were always so many posters who could say what I thinking far more eloquently! CogitoErgosometimes always posted fabulous advice alongside Anyfucker on the Relationship boards. Still noticeable in her absence. Anyfucker was always brilliant at picking out trolls, if she wasn’t not on a Relationships thread, something fishy was going on!

Devilishpyjamas · 20/09/2018 05:51

But things are shite here (with ds1) which is largely why I haven’t Grin Was thinking about your DS & wondering about his next ‘stage’ for want of a better word.

Ragwort · 20/09/2018 06:09

I joined in 2001, had about a year off but spend far too much time on here Blush. Remember when we all asked to send a donation to keep Mumsnet going? Is Carrie Mumsnet still so involved? Most of the media tend to always mention Justine.

Remember many names, Rhubarb being one of my 'favourites', she did resurface a few years ago but haven't seen her recently.

So many of the same themes & discussions ... it's good when you get a really original discussion that doesn't focus on MILs or party invitations. Grin
