Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

I came around SWMNBN too. I've never stuck to one name and I'm a sporadic poster at the best of times. I remember getting miffed right at the beginning when regular posters disappeared/namechanged, but now I barely keep track of who's here.

I'm glad there are some names who stick around though. I met StealthPolarBear at a meetup once, ages ago, along with a couple of other names I think I've seen around fairly recently.

StealthPolarBear · 20/09/2018 13:57

That's right polkadot :)

YourHandInMyHand · 20/09/2018 13:59

I joined MN in around 2006. I do name change every now and again though!

I remember as DS was about the same age as a poster's little girl who passed away in 2007 and we walked the Mile for Maude with some other local mumsnetters as did lots of us in various locations around the country. I often think of that little girl and count my blessings that although my DS has complex special needs he's still here and healthy.

Mumsnet was MUCH smaller in the early days. Posters did get to know each other better that's true.

Mumsnet has helped me through work worries, pnd, my son's sen assessments and diagnosis, my realisation I was in an abusive relationship, heck even an offshoot group of us MNers who became single parents the same year and we all still keep in touch. MN has been a real lifeline to me as a parent over the years and I've often been blown away by the kindness of other MNers.

Even though MN is bigger these days I do still think it has the same straight talking but caring centre running through it.

I used to be on here, name changed to my old name (+2) from around 2003 I think.

I remember all the oldies.

AbsintheFriends · 20/09/2018 14:04

Loving this thread and the reminder of posters past.

It often strikes me as funny that MN is a massive part of my life - it's had a huge influence on my outlook, views and parenting (and it takes up far too much of my time Grin) - but I never mention it to friends in RL. My DH knows, and has great faith in MN wisdom, but aside from that I'm in the closet. Anyone else a secret user?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 20/09/2018 14:10

I’ve only been here 10y! Inder this name and one other...I think of myself as a longtime member but I’m still a newbie Wink

God I remember so many things and people mentioned! I remember there was a thread with all the users birthday and every time a birthday cake arounfbthen they had a Happy Birthday XXX thread! Can you imagine that now!

ThingInTheAttic · 20/09/2018 14:22

My ds had fruit shoots - and I even used to re-fill the bottles but he never had Greggs

@prettybird, omg you washed the bottles and re-used them?! I can hear the ghosts of Mumsnetters past gasping in horror and the clak-clak of many pearls being clutched.

"They are not designed for that, think of the germs they must be harbouring! Someone inform social services!"

OvO · 20/09/2018 14:35

I remember you prettybird!

Showy, I won the Halloween name change comp a few times too! .But I was never up against you, thankfully. Halloween Grin

prettybird · 20/09/2018 14:36

....washed them? WinkGrin

prettybird · 20/09/2018 14:38

Even now, I top up water bottles (for my own use - but ds does the same) from the tap rather than buying new bottles Grin

Mean bugger me Wink

I loved BIWI's Easter namechange — becauseimwOEUFit.

BubblegumFactory · 20/09/2018 14:44

I joined in 2004 and remember asking if it was ok to post, as it seemed to me that everyone knew each other properly IRL. My NN was rowlers back then; I thought I posted a lot but was nowhere near as prolific as others. I remember wòndering how people managed to spend so much time on MN.
Other names I remember who may not have been mentioned - janh (probably part of the moldies lot), Galaxy, Blu...
The whole GF thing was gripping, as was judgeflounce, and in general, posters definitely made a lot of effort to amuse.
I also remember Lavenderrr ... the original troll? Always thought her posts were odd.

Electrascoffee · 20/09/2018 14:44

I remember twiglett posting about another parent accusing her of giving their child molluscum and the parent came on to the thread and started having a go there too 😨

sixnearlyseven · 20/09/2018 14:48

Iv e lurked here for the last 10 years or so on and off, occasionally posting! Was anyone else on babyworld? I remember loads of names from there, joined in 2003 and stayed until 2009 ish when we then made a Facebook group lol

MoreHairyThanScary · 20/09/2018 14:52

2005 for me MN help diagnose dairy intolerance in Dad and changed my life and hers for the better pretty much overnight!

MoreHairyThanScary · 20/09/2018 14:53

That would be dd not Dad ! 🤣

northender · 20/09/2018 14:58

Littlelapin was definitely recruiting for Usborne books. Although I stayed and am still here, I do remember it feeling very much like school in the old days with a popular clique who would happily ignore those not in the clique (I was definitely not in a clique). It was probably an issue with it being much smaller then. The Moldies thing was just an extension of that really.
Aloha caused a real rumpus when she wrote a piece in the Mail and quoted lots of users. It didn't go down well with lots of people and was probably the first case of lazy journalism, but was worse in some ways as it was done by someone who was a long-standing poster that people trusted.
SalStrawberry was the Whats for dinner poster I think

KosmoKramer · 20/09/2018 15:02

I joined in 2006. I remember the Mile for Maud, and the thrill of actually reading the Moldie's new website on Ghosty's computer. I hardly post now.

Sadoldbagpuss · 20/09/2018 15:02

I know you prettybird. good info about shawlands etc...Grin I need to get along to a Glasgow meet up one of these days.

TheOriginalNomDePlume · 20/09/2018 15:10

Oh yes, there was lots of molluscum chat in the old days, it was the bread and butter of ‘health’. Other topics of conversation/controversy I remember were of Nestle and of course, toddlers eating Gregg’s sausage rolls in their prams. In fact, general ‘eating in the street’ was a hot topic too, I seem to recall. Lots of bosom hoisting at the rudeness of it.

TirNaN0g · 20/09/2018 15:11

Lots of laughs and great advice when I used MN regularly, which was years ago.

PoisonousSmurf · 20/09/2018 15:12

Joined in 2001, changed name a couple of times.

TheOriginalNomDePlume · 20/09/2018 15:15

Plus, I’m the very early days I remember lots of debates around the single vaccs vs MMR. The Wakefield stuff was still hanging around like a bad smell and the boards were jumping with it for a while.

TheOriginalNomDePlume · 20/09/2018 15:15

Can’t remember when I joined. Have name hanged once.
